but isn't there a formula that can predict the number of planets with life on them according to age, climate, things of that nature? so theoretically, there's 1000's of life forms spread throughout the universe, but we're all just too far away from each other to communicate. right...?

And yeah that is a huge number. However, who came up with those odds and how do they know they are right. To me thats saying that humans are the only intelligent life in the universe, which, I for one, dont think is true. Maybe I misinterpreted wrong?

So, we're all getting not-picky on the notation, when this posts aim was to prove a point about the superhuman calculations that are nessecary in order to explain the existence of anything in the universe, BASICALLY... Is pretty much impossible for any of us to comprehend because if the theory's complexity. Then we want to involve quantum phyisics, which in itself the experts in that field have a hard time grasping what they're trying to explain sometimes... It's probably something that can't be understood from a post here at NS because we're not PhD's with years of experience in any of these fields. No one can convincingly explain existence through scientific means, so until that day comes, I'll just believe what I believe.
