easily mathematically explainable... if you take the slopes of the two triangles they are different. Looking at the they are very similar but when you look at the actual number of the slope they are different. This causes them to bulge outward just enough to make a gap for one block. Or it causes there to be an indent which pushes the area back into the the opening. The hypotenuse is not a straight line its either indented or bulging out ever so slightly. The way its drawn may not even be "correct" a straight line may be made to make the illusion more convincing.

and no you cannot, in order to make your vocal chords vibrate and cause the humming sound, air must flow, and with both your nose and mouth closed there's no way for it to escape ....
you can at most hum for a few seconds with a closed nose, before the pressure gets too big and you have to exhale or stop humming ...
