Mind=blown

i dont have the brainpower to analyze your answer. the way the paradox is supposed to work is:

chance of choosing a correct answer randomly is 25%. but because both a would then be correct, the answer would be 50%. but then because 50% is only one answer, it goes back to being a 25% chance

here's one I thought of today:

say you were cut in half horizontally at like your waist. would you be able to pick your upper body up?

Also, stole this off of friends Facebook.

Whoa, if you start on any random page on wikipedia, and keep clicking the first link that's not in parentheses or brackets, you make it to Philosophy every time, and usually relatively fast. I haven't found a dead-end yet

always was taught thats its juts a dude in a hat. never threw tennessee or kentucky in.

in that picture though, tennessee's the cack

still no, but i dont really get what cutting yourself in half has to do with it. it's the same as if you were still whole, you cant pick yourself up

My friend kinda of blew my mind today

"Hey man, time travel's impossible or else they would have come to tell us a few hundred years ago when we could maybe handle it"

When you think about it, thats impossible because there is no like limited number of years any period is ahead of us. It's just a hard concept to wrap your mind around

Time travel is possible in an infinite universal paradigm. Say you grow up and when you're thirty you get the opportunity to time travel. So you take it and go back to when you were fifteen to tell yourself something. Thing is you would be able to but you wouldn't back track to the universe where you gre up in. Such as people think with every possible out come there is a new universe created; you have choice between a glass of water or milk, you choose milk, there is an infinite amount of other universes that branch off in a different direction where you chose water. Even considering very small things like placement of atoms in your body, or large things like who won world war II.
So much like every choice you make creates a new universe, you would make a choice to time travel your time traveling self would take you to a universe in which you visit yourself at 15 from the future and change something or tell yourself something. So you wouldn't change anything in your universe's "you" only in an infinite number of universes that branched out from that universe in which your time traveling self visited.
Also thing to consider, say the universe in which you were taken to, didn't have the capability of sending you back to the universe in which you came, what happens to you?
Well they either have the technology to send you forward in time, through the same universe, which will take you to the future in which you initially set up for yourself by visiting your past self in that universe. OR if they don't yet have THAT technology you will live simultaneously as a 15 year old and a 30 year old time traveller from an alternate universe. Which would be a mind fuck.
BUT if you could be sent back from the universe in which you travelled to, to the universe in which you initially started your time traveling journey from, nothing would be different, you probably wouldn't have seemed like you time travelled at all. Most likely it would be like stepping into the time machine and stepping out took virtually no time. Your time travel to a new split universe would happen such as split universes happen right now. Simultaneously and fluidly as you live your life. So you would step in, a "you" would split off and time travel and return simultaneously as you stepped in and it would be done. Nothing in your universe would be changed, however the life of the 15 year old you in an alternate universe would be changed drastically, setting a course for another set of infinite tangent universes where anything that is possible can and does happen.
If this is confusing. Think as me writing this. With every passing millisecond there are an infinite amount of universes being created, generalized by time and movement.
Say that last sentence took me 10 seconds to write. There are an infinite number of universes where that sentence took me 10.0000000000000001 seconds to write. and another infinite set where it took me 9.9999999 seconds to write, and so forth and so forth, it is a universal and numerical fractal. As numbers are infinite and so are the universes created. Also with every movement my cells and atoms make in my body as i type this there are infinite amount of universes being created where a cell that just now died in my hand doesn't die for another hour. AND THAT IS JUST ONCE CELL. There are billions if not trillions of cells in your body, sooo many possibilities.
And people think of well in alternate universes I am a famous actor... yes, there are infinite amounts of universes where you are that, there are infinite amounts where you do not exist. there are infinite amounts where you are ruler of the universe there are infinite amounts where it is the exact same life you lead right now except one cell in your body is changed, or where one blade of grass across the globe doesn't exist. (something so irrelevant to your life, there is an infinite amount of universes in which that blade of grass has one cell changed, or it doesnt exist at all, but all life that has been and will be is exactly the same as it is in this universe.

BOOM
My mind was blown, so is yours, and I just became all knowing and turned into pure conscious energy and light.

As do I. I spent a long time thinking about your response. I always understood the possibilities of alternate universes where each thing is different.

So essentially, even if there is time travel, you are saying that it is impossible for them to visit us, because our universe is the product of them not visiting us?

I cannot see the connection between the impact of one cell's difference creating alternate universes, and how that proves the existence of time travel ):

Also is there a thread or cult dedicated to time travel thoughts?

only if they stay within our universe.

maybe they just haven't visited us yet. what if next year time travel is discovered, but they need one more thing to make it work. then in a hundred years time someone discovers what makes it work, and, as a service to us all, travels back in time and tells us what it is (next year).

however, this would mean going between universes in order to prevent the grandfather paradox.

ever seen donnie darko?

Pudge. The end was kind of a tangent hahah but basically alternate universes happen ecause where something doesn't happen in our universe it does in another universe. So some people only equate large scale thoughts like oh if hitler ended up ruling, all I was saying is that it occurs on a small scale like there is an infinite amount of universes where a single cell on your arm dies at a different time than it did in this universe. As for time travel if it is possibles, in theory, you would travel to a different universe where 15 year old you meets his future self, since that obviously didn't happen when you were fifteen it will, only in a different universe. As time travel would create a paradox because just the act of you traveling back in time would change something that causes your universe to be different than it was when you actually left. So the only possible way to travel through time is through another universe
