As is any message posted on a forum. The one thing that does need to stop is the personal insults to the posters and Jay and Mike. You guys need to chill. Don't get all crazy about your passions. To each his own. Some like Line for their own reasons. Some don't. Respect that and your opinions will be. Talk about why you don't or why you do. Its as simple as that.

and everybody who sais line products suck why dont u go out and design a ski that would problly come out to be some half assed jobwith no graphics and no ski technology at all so let ppl express there opinions but dont talk shit about things u have no clue about

Okay, guys, sorry for being late. I would have liked to have joined this argument from the beginning. So, you'll have to excuse me for catching up a little bit.

First off (this was my favorite), craigcski (or whatever your name is) who cares if you are a riding for Line and 'in videos next year'? If you're a moron, we are going to tell you about it. Period. Just because you get free skis doesn't make you exempt from this. Get a clue.

Jibbing1260, you my nig, dawg. I have also run into many problems with Line and Jay Levinthal and Mike Nick which are very similar to what you have stated. I also have had the pleasure of reading the TGR-Line emails, and none of you would continue backing a company that is ignorant enough to do what Line did in that situation.

Dirty, Craigjackass, and all of the other people that support Line . . . That's fine. That's your opinion. However, you are going to have to understand that Line is not a very popular company in the ski industry because of how they practice their business. I get the impression that it is you two that don't know what you are talking about. You believe that Line is some great company that cannot do wrong. Nothing is further from the truth.

On the topic of Line's ski quality. It's terrible. I swear, if anyone else says 'they're good in the park, though' I am going to puke. If it's light and has twin tips, it's a good park ski. Monkeys can make park skis.

the people who really know whats going on are people such as lineskieastcoast, mauii, and five0.

the first people who i mentioned obviously have no clue as to what there talking about cause they dont deal with things first hand, they dont live anywhere near skiings core and have not put there lives towards it.

the reason why these last people i listed know whats up is cause they deal with skiing from the epicenter of the ski scene... they deal with team managers, reps, filmakers and riders on a regular basis.

so from now on listen to lineskieastcoast, mauii, and five0, cause these kids are on the ball as to industry happenings.

and whenever the other people say anything just disreguard what they are saying cause they are idiots.

I'm not gonna fight with you guys anymore b/c its about your opinions, and I realize that I'm not going to change anyones opinions, and I never set out to do that. I'm sorry for acting like a jackass. And I do respect JayLev and Mike Nick (I don't think anyone calls him just Mike, even to his face) for being good skiers, and starting a business from the ground up. I just don't like the guys. and I do know whats going on.

Dirty, I have nothing agianst you guys, and I realize that you want to defend your sponsor, and that they take care of their riders. And thats great. And I never said you didnt know what was going on. B/c I know you are more into the ski industry than I am b/c you are for all intents and purposes a professional skier(i.e. ski for money) But then again, I do work at a shop, and I know a lot of the reps, and I know a couple guys who are pro, or used to be and gave up their pro status, and those guys were around a long time before you, actually, awhile before newschool became big. And they dealt with Line from the beginning. So its not like I don't have connections. I have quite a few connections. I admit, I may not be the next JP Auclair. But I also am not some 14 year old that watches too many ski movies, and makes shit up. I know what I am talking about.

oh man, sorry charles (jibbing1260) but I just read your post about line and if you don't know why they got pissed at you. I really duno what to tell you. When you form relationships with companies you do learn things that are for you to learn and NOT the general public. It is one perk about being on the inside of the industry. Obviously you aren't a 'professional kid' like you said in your post or you would have understood that. See companies need to show there products and ideas around a little to make them more confident that they will work when the time comes down to it.

As for andy, you should just keep your mouth shut until you have a legit reason to open it. If you weren't trying to change peoples views why did you post in this thread at all. You make NO sence at all. Also working at a shop is great and all but honestly, it doesn't really put you in the know. You meet cool people, reps. But I'm 99% sure they don't call you at home to fill you in on the newest happenings and keep you up to date. Most reps will come by a shop 1-3 times a year. Once two sell and the other two when they check inventory/re-orders.

This whole industry is a business and untill you really understand it and are involved in it you shouldn't be talking about how working at your ski shop puts you on the inside.

 
Prins, for a situation I'm sure you know very little as compared to me, you sure do make several assumptions. As a member of the press, I brought the information from the inside to the general public. This was not information that was disclosed that I wasn't supposed to see. It was actually taken from a newspaper article which was published. Therefore, it appeared as though Line were trying to get their product out there. So, I brought it to a more targeted audience, the skiing community. That being, I had the intent of good in both the public, and Line itself. And, considering this, instead of handling the situation professionaly, Line thought that they would treat me as a child instead of a fellow ski industry worker. This is a poor way to conduct business. Threatening to sue someone when you have no legal background to do so is not a way to handle this minor of a situation and very poor business.

As for me being a professional, I am a working member of the press in the skiing industry. I worked several events in Colorado last season as a photographer. I'm not exactly sure who you think you are to make such assumptions, but I think you need to think a little harder before you make such a post.

 
People! We have strayed from what is important to the topic of 'who is in the know in the industry' that just bores the death out of me. It seems to me that the egos are getting in the way here. As opposed to everyone arguing the real issue, we have gotten in the the 'who are these kids to talk shit to me? I am sooooo important in the industry' attitude. Let's get back to the topic at hand here: the opinions of Line.

With that said, I am a bit disappointed that I was not on your list of people, Dirty. Did I not insult you and your friends enough? If not, I will try to work on that for you.

Remember people, Line. Let's get back to that.

actually prins is the eyes and ears of the midwestern ski scene.. he is a correspondent for Freeze as well as Freeskier Magazines, and knows quite a bit about industry happenings. i think that you are merely an ametuer photagropher as well as a child, rather than a 'proffessional'.

so to talk shit to prins is ludacris.

i dont believe that line actually released the graphics on a national level, and you should take that into consideration. you should let line do there own marketing and not publish any photos till you recieve there verbal and written permision, as any photos that may have been published were surely copywritten and protected by federal laws.

thanks dirty, ya i'm a corispondant for freeskier, freeze and ran the biggest ski competition in the midwest last year. All of the prep work I did myself and ran the event with a minumal staff of about 10 guys, 64 Competitiors with thousands of spectators (not making up that number, it was a police count, which for some reason they had to take a couple times a day incase a riot broke out or something lame like that).

Do you know that newspapers are © information? Did you write them for your written permission? what if they found out you had published the picture you scaned from there pages and were receiving hits because of it? I think you should be happy the paper didn't find out. See the thing about a site like this is not only can you 'talk about fucking peoples moms in the ass and they cannot even hit you for it... ' but you never know who everyone on here is. Hell the president of time warner could be on here...

 
As I see the whole situation with Jibbing1260 and Line is that he was as upset with how they pursued the matter as much as how ridiculous it was to pursue it in the first place. I have met the ungentlemen at Line quite a few times, and I can definitely seem them doing just that. Now Prins, I ask you, in your infinite wisdom, if you can justify that? I think what Charles is getting at here is Line's inability to treat him with respect of any kind. Also, I think when he wrote 'professional kid' he meant 'professional kind'. That makes his post have more sense. Am I right about the typo? Again, I am quite sick of hearing about you people banter about the industry and 'who is in the know'. Get back to the point, because we don't care who you're a correspondant for. Understand that Jaquet (no disrespect) himself isn't as down with what's going on as some, and telling his magazine things certainly won't hold a lot of respect with me. Again, get back to the point.

I never said that I was down with line, I talk to dave p every now and then but I mostly deal with the local reps for around the Midwest, who are chill as hell. But the people at line have nothing to do with you breaking the law. When you scanned that image out of the paper you broke copyright laws, you should be happy you weren't sued. Actually you should be thanking line for not taking the legal action they were completely entitled to. When you posted that without direct written consent you really fucked up. That is the bottom line.

Also I don't care if he meant “professional kind”, if it was so vital to his post he would have made sure to not write kid. This is the internet and we shouldn't have to try to interpret what it is you are writing.

If you took something like that from a bigger company such as salomon they wouldnt have just threatened legal action, they would have taken it... and you would have been out money.

It is easy for you to say that Jay is a dick because you know who owns and runs the company straight up. had salomon sued you, you wouldnt have said anything, except maybe that salomon is a bunch of dicks, but that you acepted it since there a big corporation.

This is an example of a double standard.... Line is easy to pick on since they are a small company, who you can easily point out whos attacked you. whereas another bigger company would be in the right since thats how they are supposed to operate.

Line had the right to sue you, you should be happy that you werent sued. thats the facts.

Prins, you have this wrong. Line was entitled to zero legal action. The newspaper was, and I agree completely. From now on when I get ski previews, I'm doing it by shooting a few rolls of my own film at the ski racks at the US Open. Its legal that way. But the only legal action Line could have taken was to call up the newspaper.

Dirty, I think you have things confused also. Don't get me wrong, because I agree Salomon can be a group of corperate assholes. Except they do it in a different way from Line. At a much less personal level. They ignore things like this because the online skiing community isn't nearly as large as others. So they would have ignored the situation or not even noticed it. Unlike Line, who is out and about. They saw that and shit a brick.

 
Actually you can't say that I'm wrong because you don’t know who took the photograph. can you tell me that it wasn't one that they got from the line company, which would mean you would need written consent from them as well. There are two many loose strings here that you don't know the answers to for you to say that line had no business doing what it did to you. I also thought I read that you were done with this thread, so we know you would be a man of your word by your last post.

 
anything else i would say on this would just be guesses and heresay, but i do know that niether line nor the newspaper were in the wrong, and that both of them may have had the right to sue you depending on the exact situation.

mike nick i one of my favorite skiers...hes got cool style...no one else does lui kangs like him...he does them the best ever...and as for..i think they are the most progressive ski company out there.
