Mike Douglas would totally throw off my flavor...

Did anybody else notice at the X Games how he would always countdown "3..2..1!" whenever somebody was about to either jump in slopestyle or air off the first hit in superpipe? Even in Dumont's quarter pipe fall mike douglas was in the booth, counting down for the crowd. This just seems to be bad etiquette towards the skiers. He might as well cough over the mic as somebody is about to hit a rail...or worse, give the crowd his little "you would not imagine how tough sliding on one of these very slippery railings on waxed skis can be..." speech during my run. Granted most of the skiers are listening to loud music during their runs, i'm still sure it's pretty easy to hear Mike's bad in-run commentary. Natural rhythm is important during a run, and i would be pissed if somebody was counting down to the moment i pop off the lip. Anybody else notice this?

Yes...

But keep in mind the crowd in big air(on the other side of the jump) can't see the skier the few seconds before he hits it. They'll see them on the big screen, though

maybe some of you dont realize. he has to apeal to the general public and the newschool community. that is a hard job. id say he does pretty good at it. no matter what you say on that mic someone will be dissapointed.

What does appealing to the general public have to do with counting down. I know that he has to explain things but counting down is just annoying.

agreed.... its a nationally televised event, they have to make it easy to understand for all types of people, if u don't like what he says there a mute button on your remote.

i meant for the skiers. they are the ones it could affect. besides, does the crowd not now when they are going to pop, especially after like the 50th time he counts down? i think they can figure it out.

Well i mean its a competition, sure if i was doing a normal jump in the park on a normal day and some just yelled something random b4 i went off id be pissed but its a comp its and its a different story. In basketball you hear the fans shutting up when some1 is about to take a free throw, its all about the atmosphere of a competition. And if i were in a comp and i was about to throw a trick i wouldn't mind some sort of noise of encouragement to help get me pumped...

*In basket ball you dont hear the fans shuttin up when some1 is about about to take a free throw,*

hahah so you would like skiing to be more like golf and less like basketball. hell yeah for high 4s and checkered jumpers. i highly doubt the athelte gives a shit what soo ever about mike dougleas' commentary and they will zone in to the trick there doing. it makes it mass audience friendly. i have no problem with it.

the only thing skiing has in common with golf is it makes you feel peaceful.

sometimes not even that! I get pissed at golf alot!

boooooo for even putting golf in the same realm as the sport of the gods.
