I'm thinking about buying a MIG welder maybe gasless. I know it depends on the quality of my welds but how "big of a mig" do i need to get in order to be able to weld some rails?

anybody who has any tips for purchasing or picking something so i can weld the shit out of some shit, speak up.

i got a lincoln 110(if not 110 then something close) and it kills for anything i need thats snowboard related. but ur goin to want gas. there's no really good way to go without it. gassless wire just blows...

picked it up at homo depot btw

of course you need gas, otherwise your weld would be contaminated and it will snap

there is no such thing as gasless wire.

what you would want is a flux core machine, its like stick welding and mig put together where its a fed wire but the shielding gas is built into the wire.

i wouldnt advise buying from home depot, it may be lincoln electric brand but the put cheaper quality parts in and there are tendencies to break, although if you are not using it constantly then it probably should be okay.

it also depend on the power source you have, 110v or 220v.

that would be a mig welder with fluxcore wire in it. and there are better welders but for small jobs that 110 is plenty and can be ran from a 110 ourltet( standard housing outlet for all u non-carpenter nerds). and i dont think i paid more than 300 for it which is a good deal for all my around-the-house and snowboard needs.

theres pros and cons of each. mig has less clean up but gas can be expensive.

flux core- some clean up and spatter and the shielding gas is build into the wire
