Midwest skier problems

Runs last about 2 minutes

Ice Ice and more Ice

too many gapers wearing jeans

shitty snowboarders making shitty jumps on every run

little kids on leashes

more tow ropes than chairlifts

More fucking Ice

Wait, skiing in the Midwest sucks? I thought you guys had huge mnts and epic back country skiing with some of the best parks in the country. Thanks for letting me know.

The park crew is 50 year old women who rake NEXT TO THE RAIL and don't fix the giant bomb hole in the landing. You give her some friendly advice and she yells at you about her "years of experience"

Hahahaha, I can say that I've never seen a woman on a park crew, never mind a 50 year old woman.

But the midwest has more boarders than skiers, at least where I live. More boarders = boarders on park crew = more snowboard oriented park design. It's usually not bad, but there were some questionable features last year...

The gapers, yesThe rednecks in camo, yes

The ice, yes

However, where I'm at in Illinois (I ski Snowstar) we're currently having one of the best winters in a while. We opened on time for the first time in a while, and this time last year we were waiting & praying for cold weather to make snow.

Does riding a 280 ft drop suck? Yes.

However, I love the way our park is right now and we have an even number of skiers and boarders on park crew and an almost even number of skiers and snowboarder riding ratio.

Just make of it what you can, don't bitch about it and have fun.

I totally agree with you dude. Im proud to be from the midwest (michigan). I was trying to have some fun and see what other funny things Midwest NSer's could contribute and relate to.

i ski at sunburst, i think this is the earliest theyve been functional in awhile... not too icey either. but god, theres a divit is everylanding

I grew up in the Midwest then moved out west 9 years ago............. I still look back at skiing in wisconsin and how it make me the skier I am today.............. I've got love for wisco just more love for the west....................

1.) you'd be suprised at the amount of "pro" skiers that have come out of the MW. Do some digging.

2.) From what I have experienced and it may have changed since I haven't lived out there for a few yrs, but the MW skier community might be small, but that isnt a bad thing. I have been able to travel from MN to OH to SD and maintain friendships across that fairly large region. Other skiers are usually pretty stoked to meet other skiers from the MW.

3.) It's usually ALWAYS cold from Dec-Feb. Use this to your advantage, get away from the resorts, and get good at urban. So many good spots/features across the MW. How do you think Hornbeck got so good at handrails?!!

Growing up skiing 300 feet of ice will make our break you. Made me uber comfortable laying a hard edge on ice. Now that I live out west, I thank the great days I had skiing back in IL/WI. Made tons of friends for life.

Yeah I really wish I lived closer to afton, and I still have no idea how all of Hylands park crew hasn't been fired multiple times, they leave features in horrible shape all the time

What sucks the most is when your hill is too big to have rope-tows, so you have to wait in the lift line and then go up a chairlift just so you can hit the three features in the park.

Also a Snowstar skier here, I try to get out west twice or so a year and I love it when I do, but our little hill is fun as hell. Everybody knows everybody and there are always fun people to ride with. The park setup is switched up pretty often and the limitations of the mountain lead to getting creative or just trying new dumb shit. I don't mind the midwest.

Me and some friends grabbed a shovel and tried to fix a jump in the park, we began by dissecting it. The ski patrol tried to stop us but it was too late. What we uncovered was shocking, appalling.

THE JUMPS AT HYLAND ARE PILES OF SHIT (AS PICTURED) WITH SNOW ON THEM.

except for the fact that there are gapers and little kids EVERYWHERE. you can't make it down a run without getting cut off by them at least once, during the weekends.
