Midwest Open 2010

UWSnS: Yes, there will be practice Saturday morning, I never even realized that wasn't listed on the schedule. I believe every other year it has started when the lifts start at 9 AM, so that will be my goal to have everything ready to go by 9.

Steve: It is a long day for sure, but we have to be prepared for our 200 competitor cap whether we reach that or not. Having it start at 12 allows time for both jump practice in the morning and people who are driving from farther away a little more time to get there. The good thing is I plan on leaving the railyard 100% full of rails on saturday, so you guys can just shred... maybe film inbetween the comps. Also, after the big air comp the north park will be opened back up, but I believe we have to leave the big air jump closed to the general public because it is a "competition" feature... which sucks for sure, but theres nothing I can do about that.

Nate: Yes, there will be big air practice on friday night from 4-9 or 10. For big air competitors only.

Should be a really fun day... glad to hear we have some MN riders coming down, Stoked!

I would like to suggest to everyone to wax their skis! Speed could be a little challenging because of where management wants the jump put, but the in run will be salted, so wax up because every little bit will help just in case. (I know that's not what you want to hear, but I'm saying, just in case.)

Word... I will let you guys know how things go tonight with jump testing. But waxing your skis would be a solid choice either way.

Also, make sure you guys put your skis in our ski corral this weekend, it's free, and I feel like someones gear always gets stolen at comps.

This is dead on. Speed I think is gonna be a issue if weather pans out like they say, sunny & mid 40's.

Yup exactly!... we do have rub on wax at the tech shop if it's like last minute and you guys want to throw some wax on your skis... I don't know how much they would charge you, but it shoudn't be too much. But I'd rather have it be 40 and sunny than 32 and rainy like last year that's for damn sure.

I plan on salting the shit out of the in run as well so hopefully that will really help.

still partly sunny... only a 20% chance later in the afternoon... i can deal with that. Hopefully it changes again though.

We have jumps! Anyone who saw the jumps last night, they are 100% differnt. Rebuilt the whole shelf and jumps. Big side is about 50 ft and small side is about 40 ft. They aren't done yet, but I took these around 1:30 last night and I had to go home and get some sleep before class today. I'm really stoked how they look. I did test hit both of them and I definitely had the speed for the small side, but I came up about 3 feet short on the big side, so we worked out a plan on how to find more speed and hopefully that works. Good thing is we still have 3 days to make it happen. The kicker itself is about 6 or 7 feet tall and 1 1/2 cat widths wide... it looks pretty badass in person.

yea i agree..... they do look real poppy at the end

maybe they will smooth them out a bit b4 friday, and make them BIGGER haha go big or go home

i was saying they dont look very poppy and that they could use some more pop... the little one looks sort of poppy but the big one looks like a flat launcher.

Actually you have it all backwards... in those pictures the small one is really flat and the big one is poppy. Not to worry though, both of them aren't done and will change by friday night.

only thing i would say about the jumps is that the speed is gonna be issue due to the temp...so maybe just shorten the jump size and more wu tang so u still could throw some ill tricks....?? just a thought

Question...... what exactly is a wu tang jump style???

i think tyrol's BA jump has a good set up when it comes to the take-off, i hit that a couple times this year and was pretty smooth

i dont know what tyrol has but i think wu tang means that it has some good lip to it..i just think when speed is issue and still want air u shorten jump and give wu tang to be ill.

agreed
and wu-tang is just talking about the "pop" to the jump.. like if its not a poppy jump then it doesnt have much wu-tang... if it has alot of pop it would have a lot of wu-tang

i personally like bigger jumps with less wu tang then.... i fell like u can control yourself a lot more during your jump.

but either way im looking forward to this weekend, it should be sick to see what everyone is throwing down.

I don't know exactly what you get, but I know first place gets at least a pair of skis and goggles and some other stuff, second gets boots and some other stuff, and third gets like a ski bag, a boot bag, and some other stuff. To be honest skiers get hooked up much fatter than boarders do, which is unfortunate, but oh well.

wu-tang is good when it isn't sudden. A nice smooth tranny on a kicker with some good pop is a very sexxxxy jump.

if u have no wu tang then u get no air time to do ur trick and its all hucked which looks gay.... the wu tang just has to be well made.

Wu-tang definitely goes into the consideration of the jump. And adjustments can be made friday night after the night practice session if enough people voice their concern to me. I will be out and about all friday night... white smith variant helmet, black volcom pants, no poles since i fucked up my thumb, and probably a black park crew coat. Just feel free to approach me and tell me what you think, just don't be a dick about it and I will probably listen to you.

And shortening the jump up if it's too slow is definitely an option we are considering.

that's tight.

i said that though because i lived in MN my whole life and still go to school there but 2 years ago i moved to WI and started shredding with everyone from tyrol. So both circles of skiers will be together to form a super circle of shred this weekend!

Friday night jump practice is only 29 hours away! Register now if you haven't already. I have a feeling this years MWO is going to be a NS takeover. Should be super fun shredding with all the skiers from the area. I'm heading up tomorrow around 1 to test hit the jumps, salt, rake them, and make them awesome. JEA! Oh and the new rail is getting painted today... WOOT! ... here's a clue as to what the new rail is...
