I'm looking into getting a 4wd 2nd gen tacoma or something similar, and just wondering how many miles is too many when looking into a used truck

get a sticker that covers the back of it that says

"TRUMP LIVES MATTER"

Get a sticker that says "IM a vegan" so you don't have to keep telling everyone

After driving a full size pickup for most of my driving years, the mid-size pickups don't really compare... I would say look for a crew cab tundra if I were you, hauling both gear and people(I hunt often in the fall) is much more convenient despite the mileage

Fullsize trucks here are so much harder to find in decent shape for my price range that dont have 200,000 miles

If you're worried about mileage and have a price range, good luck with Tacomas. Used ones with 100,000 miles still go for $15,000 around me. That being said, they can run until they have about 250,000 if you take care of them.

Whats your price range? Mid size trucks are in high demand. I just went through the process of searching for one. They aren't cheap on the used market. There are some good deals on the nissan frontier but tacoma's are ridiculously overpriced. Not to mention the short beds are useless

I was looking at Tacoma's in the 30,000 mile range with 4wd crew cab and they were going for $25-27,000 dollars.

Ended up getting an Xterra instead.

tacomas will run longer than there will be gas to power them... dont be put off by one with 150k or so, as long as it was maintained

what is your budget?

i mean 0 miles is ideal, but it depends on how much you have to spend

Yeah my budget is 15-17k so i've found two 4wd access cabs with 75,000 miles for 16 grand. Seems that most tacomas for sale have around 120-150k miles on em

I was in a similar boat just with a higher budget. I realized I could get a similar vehicle with WAY less miles for that much.

Why would you spend $17,000 and get a car with 75,000 miles? People will say oh tacoma will go forever...

I got an Xterra for $19,000. Its a 2012 in the S trim. Its a great car and only had 16,000 miles on it.

A coworker told me to look for Toyotas in Arizona. Weird tip, but apparently in other parts of the country there isn't the ridiculous Toyota price markup on used trucks that the Northwest has.

You're in Cali. Look in Nevada, Texas, etc. for cheaper options. You can save a lot if you're willing to fly and you will not have to worry about salt issues with the frame.

Don't bother with Colorados, but take a look at Frontiers. Cheaper, and still rather reliable.

I really enjoy having a bed for skiing, surfing, errands, people transporting etc. I looked at xterra's and 4runner's a bit too, a truck just fits a little better with what I do in life if that makes sense

I'll look into that thanks

Ya i didn't really think about that, I looked in BC a bit too but not sure about the import laws from Canada. I've checked out a few Frontiers as well, I was actually supposed to test drive one this weekend but it sold, and that was the only one i could find easily that was worth looking at

I have no idea about import laws, but not a bad idea. Again, 2nd Gens, especially the earlier models, had rust issues with their frames. Be SURE to check that out.

Frontiers apparently had a few transmission issues (not sure if someone mentioned this, but google Strawberry Milkshake Frontier) so check the years out as well.

Alright I'll keep that in mind thanks for the help man!

Any place where there is not snow has better 4wd/awd pricing. Also, look for cars that dont come from places near the ocean. Salt water eats cars alive!

Make sure to get a pre buy inspection. A couple hundred could save you thousands.

Cant Stress this enough! When i was looking for my truck i thought i found the perfect Tacoma. I have a good buddy who is a Manager at a Nissan dealership, he ran the VIN and found out it had been rolled over and rebuilt.

All that being said, Go get your self a frontier instead. I've posted all my positive experiences with my Frontier in multiple other threads.

You will get a truck with less miles, more features, more power, and stronger drive train, all for less money. The toyota hype is a little ridiculous.
