Micro MV Cameras

Does anyone have any experience with one of these? Is the final result better?

For those who don't know, Micro MV video cameras record straight to mpeg2 (DVD) format. This is lower bitrate than straight DV though. The benefit is (I assume), that when you export to mpeg2 to make a DVD, the video is already compressed and only the edited bits need to be compressed whereas the entire DV file needs to be converted which loses an extra generation of quality. Another benefit I'm guessing would be that it is quicker to export.

The cameras are expensive too. Anyone know what they're like? I have no idea about them. I'm a bit obsessive over video quality, lucky I live in PAL country!

The quality isn't any better than miniDV (although I don't think it's that much worse). Cameras are very expensive, and no way as good as a miniDV model in the same price range. Plus the tapes cost about 3 times as much.

Just go for a decent miniDV model.
