Michigan might be shutting down.

On the start of the new fiscal year, Michigan might shut down. I don't know all of the details exactly, but the government is all split up between the dems and reps and they are all voting down each other, resulting in the state coming up short something like 1.2 billion dollars in the budget. So if the state shuts down then all state functions will be stopped, such as the state police, liquor sales and other stuff. Anyone else heard about this or know anything more? I want to know if I should start stocking up on liquor.

if thats true, why would you stock up on liquor. you can just steal it when the state shuts it down.

yea i mentioned that yesterday and got called stupid, but yea it suxs, i live in Michigan and i would hate to leave it, its so nice here

Haha, I love how you're talking about something as serious as your state shutting down, and you're worried about the beer. So sick.

it happened in pennsylvania once and i'm not sure what happened. i guess it is a sure thing that all secretary of state offices will be closing and certain health care programs/services might stop, and a friend heard that a bunch of preschools in his hometown are closing down. these are gonna happen for sure for 5-30 days or something. i think that state police might not be getting the temporary boot though. that would be sick though, highway driving would be intense.

ahahahhahahaha, yea it would, in Manistee,MI

where i go to school they have the most cop to person ratio in the US.

but it would suck cuz i bet we wouldnt get gas r ne thing

my family has a cabin in the UP, and if this happens, I am going up there to just get drunk and high out of my mind, no cops. Actually they would probably have the national gaurd or something step in.

I have a feeling this is going to become more common in the future when there is not enough money to support all the ridiculous government worker pensions and benefits. There simply isn't enough money to keep up this charade that is the United States bureaucracies.

it is so sad that michigan has one of the worst economies in the country. it is a really sweet place.

dude trey michigan government could very possibly shut down, doesn't mean the state will go in to absolute termoil. maybe.

Michigan would be a wonderful place to live if it weren't for the south east corner of the state (detroit and flint.) Most everyone down there believes that they are entitled to all the governement handouts. The democratic party actually goes to the inner city and loads all the poor folk up on buses and gives them cigarettes to go vote. Ever wonder why we have a communist, socialist bitch from Canada running the state? Grandstand studied communism extensively in college at Biserkly. The rest of the state is pretty conservative, but the southeastern part of it is fucked. I think we should just dig a channel around detroit and flint and annex them to Canada, we all would be happier.

I know people that worked for GM and are in a program called jobs bank. there are thousands in these programs. One of my parents neighbors actually is. He was layed off about 7 years ago. Since then he has received 95% of his annual salary, full health benefits, and was allowed to go back to college on GM's pocket book to get a degree in whatever he please, not even required to studyu something that he could bring back to GM. Oh one catch to this full ride program, a couple hours a week, helping in the community. So besides that he just golfs and bitches about GM, and that he isnt making enough money. Just think about that shit, ever wonder why american automakers cant compete on the global market? Its this entitlement bullshit that has driven me far from the state to Montana, and my folks will soon follow.

I could tell you all tons of stories about how michigan government has made it impossible for companies to do business in the state. and they all wonder why we are up to our asses in debt. Its pretty screwed up, rant done.

the upper peninsula of michigan is one of the nicest places ever to live. i lived there for 18 years and will definitly retire there.

as of michigan.gov

AGREEMENT IS

REACHED

State legislators

have reached a comprehensive budget agreement to end a government shutdown.

State government will be open for business on Monday, October 1 and all

state employees should report for your next scheduled shift.

The budget agreement includes

reforms and new revenues that will fund the vital work of state government

and help Michigan avoid the types of structural budget issues that have

contributed to recent financial problems.

The notice of temporary layoff

you received on Friday, September 28, 2007 is no longer in effect. Again,

all state employees are expected to report for work at the beginning of

your regularly scheduled shift on Monday, October 1, 2007.

More information on

the details of the agreement will be provided via your department director

and supervisors.

Thank you for your

patience and commitment throughout this difficult process.
