2012 will mark the end of Phelps’ Olympic career. He has stated that he did not plan on competing after the age of thirty, and it is evident that the champion is ready to dry off and focus on other desired ventures. ”I’m excited to relax! Not have to answer to anyone. Not have someone tell me where to go, when to go, what to do…” Phelps told Us Magazine.
A couple endeavors that Phelps is most fired up about are on the snow instead of in the water. Skiing and snowboarding have been pastimes that the 27 year old has always wanted to undertake. Years of strict swimming practice have kept Phelps from trying extreme sports. The possibility of injury could have proved detrimental to an athletic career such as his. ”This winter I want to try and snowboard and ski…I’ve never done that because I couldn’t get hurt.” Phelps said.
As the 2012 games come to an end, so does the Michael Phelps Olympic phenomenon. He has had an amazing life thus far, but can now pursue other forms of fulfilling endeavors. Mr. Phelps, we’ll see you on the slopes."
