sorry to be so blunt with you, and he is an amazing athelete but VERY far from the greatest...

Yay for Carl, 9 golds over 2 Olympics, very impressive.
However, Phelps won 6 golds in Athens and 8 in Beijing. So that makes14 Golds, which is far and away the most Olympic Gold medals by anyone, ever.
And since when should people base their opinions on what some sports writer in Chicago thinks?

ok fine my bad. I was just so hyped up after seeing that last race of his. he might not be THE greatest athelete but he is one of them. just this past Olympics have been amazing were he broke 7 world records! With that said who do u think is the top greatest athletes???........other than Carl Lewis. lol

yeah i agree if track was like swimming a sprinter like usain bolt could win the 100 meter dash, the hundred meter skip, the 100 meter backwards run, the 100 meter hop....the 4 by 100 relay etc etc etc... greatest athlete ever is probably haile gebreselaisie who runs 6 410 miles back to back

jason lezak isnt as good a swimmer as phelps....but hes way cooler. When they asked lezak how he managed to pull it together and win in the last leg of the relay he says "well...before the race i looked up and saw kobe and lebron and i thought that theres no way i could let those guys down"
