Metric or Imperial??

So which do you prefer??

I personally favor the metric system due to the fact that it makes sense, but because America is ignorant and arrogant I have to put up with the imperial/english messurements... [blah]

Metric was supposed to be the United States offical system a while ago, but Bill got confused and decided to ditch it. Metric is the future.

metric in terms of distance, but in terms of weight i like pounds way better than kilograms aand feet instead of meters

I would like to see the metric system, but it would be so hard to switch. Everyone would be still using the imperial system because that is what they have been using for 20 or 30 years. People don't like change, unfortunantely, that is going to make it very hard to switch. (or, to convince people to switch)

actually clinton set up a timetable for introduction of the metric system in the US and it was bush who torpedoed it. with metric, you have much tighter tolerances which is why all machining is done in metrc. civil engineers and architects cant seem to grasp metric.

The reason you people have the metric system is because France adopted it officially in 1795, and then Napoleon takes charge and conquers half of Europe. So all those conquered territories were forced under the metric system by law. What country did Napoleon never take... yes that's England. Hence... why the US has this system. And all you other people have the metric system because you were whipped by good ole Bonaparte.

That's cool... But like they have revised it quite a bit since then, it isn't hardly the same. Like if you read old french literature the names of units are different (translation probably) and they'll say that the character traveled the equivalent to like 300 km on foot in one day. I don't think that's possible, but it would be cool if it were cause you'd be like the flash and be zippin' around and shat and yeah!

so what about Amercia. Canada adopted the metric system and it rocks.

No one is better than the other. It's more important to stick with one and one only. If there was a decision to switch then there would be a transition period of a whole generation using both systems, which would lead to confusion.

after a few months of reading metric, you'd get used to it. it wouldn't span a whole generation

It would. People are so used to talking about distances in miles, weights in pounds, volumes in fluid ounces etc, that changing it immediately would just confuse people - they wouldn't have any idea how far a killometre actually was. It would only become fully integrated once kids start being taught ONLY metric units at school.

Even here in canada where Metic is the official unit...both are still used. Ask anyone how tall they are or how much they weigh and you'll be told in feet/inches and pounds. I would say everything is half and half. Grocery stores list weights in both, but pounds is usually listed first. Fluids are all in litres. I would say canada is still in a transition period...and we are the middle generation.

My theory isn't wrong, go ask your history teacher. Australia didn't assent the Metric Conversion Act until 1970.

they crashed it cause they used parts from other countrys and the programming for those parts was in metric so they had to convert it. they made some mistakes in converting it and it lead to them losing it.

^i just read about that today and it said that NASA used metric plans, but the makers of the probe used imperial and they didnt realize there mistake until after it was launched... 125 million dollars down the drain

Yeah metric is way better. I just like using feet to measure height and pounds to measure weight. Just seems easier...
