Methods for detuning edges

i tried to go and do some preseason jibbage on an athletic bench but my edges were way too sharp and kept on digging in and sending me flying. Anyone here have any good ways to detune edges.

easy, it takes 3 steps

1. Take file

2. rub the file in a round motion on the edges

3. continue until results are satisfying.

file, stone, rock, concrete wall, etc......Your basically dulling metal, theres no special tool for it, but use what ever you have

just start sliding rails with em, i never detuned mine, i just ate it until i had hit enough rails to detune them

is it one of those aluminum benches cuz those are a bad idea but yeah get the lil bastard file and make it round underfoot if you want to go a bit farther past your bindings

we have this stuff that looks like a steel wool sponge that is good to use too but it doesnt do as much, and use a diamond stone before you file it to get the hard spots out of the edges

aluminum benches are good to slide reguardless of what every one says you just have to be real carefull aboutlanding on it right.

Good ol' bench sliding, was fun untill the cops took it from us.

Get a handfile, do what first person said pretty much, make the edge nice and round underfoot.

Going out and hitting shit on fresh edges means several things usually: more likely to catch (as you did), usually the feeling of intensified friction; lack of smoothness, huge edge burrs, and usually edges crack sooner/more frequently. Definitely detune that shit.

i usually first place my ski on a large rock, bindings down, then procede to take a 40lb sledgehammer and repeatedly beat the shat out of them.

Take them to a shop and ask them to grind them on their belt. Just make sure you don't speak to any old school racer type or really anal tuner. Snowboarders staff are a better bet.

i used new skis today and just made sure i took like 5 runs and pulled lots of hard stops on ice. then i hit some rails and boxes and they seemed to be good. a little sticky on the rail but no crashes cause of it

about 1 inch from the front of your binding and about 1 inch from the back. So you won't slip around so much

Belting a ski and then skiing on it is fucking stupid. It takes the edge off, and all the wax.

Just ask them to stone it real quick.

im just gonna throw it out there but, maybe trying skiing a LOT thats how i roll, but if there is no snowwww.... then dull then by taking a rock to them!?

rocks for reals i had to do it one day cuz i tuned my skis at mah shop super quick and i spaced detuning and i could hardly even ski at all but rocks will do the trick fo sho

there are special tuning kits you can get, they usually have detuners too, and they are pretty cheap. i know burton makes some snowboard ones but that doesnt make a difference. using a nail file might take too much bite out, you probobaly want something with a finer grain

Eh, taking the edge off is the idea man. Wax? What? I'm talking about just holding the edge at 45 dgrees to the belt to detune it. Works a treat.

my shop has a machine that they use to detune my edges.  it takes like 30 seconds and i have totally round totally dull edges.

yeah here in the east we have pre season sking
that and the shitty rails set up till a month into the season where you can do them basically all day and leave the mountain in good shape for the season

i wouldent go to hardcore on detuning, havin edges is bomb. just take a file and de-tune like 1ft under foot and tip and tail.
