Hey,i'd like to build a rail, except i don't know how to weld. I've heard alot about pvc pipe, but i'd rather slide on metal than pvc, especially during the winter, so i was wondering about building a wooden flat rail support, and putting a flat steel rail on top, but i wasnt sure how i would fasten them together, or how much a 6-10ft flat rail would cost.Any ideas or thoughts? help would be great

Thats exactly what i did.you would put 2x4s together using screws(i used lug bolts for more protection). then bolt the metal to the wood by drilling a hole through the wood and metal and putting a bolt though and screwing it on in the pipe.i recommend galvanized steel, it slides the best but it is a bit expensive.
