If I'm not mistaken , you have to pay Gore to use their Gore-Tex membrane. They have some criteria that you have to meet. Gore test the jacket before approving them, so that's why the Gore-Tex jacket are normally better.
As for TNF, you can see that they are moving away from gore-tex, they skip summit series and relaunched it this year whit Dryvent 3L, which is way to stiff for my liking.
All S/S was gore-tex before, for the most part, and it was really good.
But using gore-tex cut into profit , and that's why the use mostly Hyvent, Hyvent 2.5, Hyvent alpha (which is a membrane) and now dryvent.
I'm a big fan of Arc'teryx, because they use gore-tex for everything, And I like gore-tex because I know what I gonna have and how good it is, Sure Dryvent 3l, Derminaz and all the other membrane are good, but Gore for me put a membrane that equal quality, and I'm not buying anything else now.
