Meniscus Surgery Recovery

Whistler.

So I tore both my Minscuses in my left knee in Decmber (third day skiing ughh). I'm going to get surgery end of August and I was wondering about recovery time. I've been researching it online but the answers are all over the place. I most likely will have miniscus repair surgery on the lateral side (in red zone; smaller tear) and a partial meniscectomy on the medial side (bigger tear; possibly into white zone). If anyone has had surgery how long was it before they could walk and ski again? I'm currently living in Vietnam and the doctors can't tell me shit over here, but I'll be moving to Whistler in August. I would have a hard time finding a job in Whistler if I can't walk haha. Also if the recovery time takes up half my season there is no point moving there. Thanks.

I'm having a meniscectomy done on my right later meniscus in two weeks. I've heard anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks to start walking on it again and not long after to run on it. Having it repaired takes a lot longer since the meniscus has to reattach itself. The stitches they use for it can end up tearing the meniscus more if you try and be active with the the knee while its still healing. For the repair I've heard anywhere from 2-4 weeks before you can walk normally again and at least 3-7 to be active again. It really depends how strong and healthy your knee is going into it and your age.

TLDR: meniscectomy takes 4 days - 2 weeks to walk, 1 week - 3 week to be active.

repair takes 2 - 4 weeks to walk, 3-7 weeks to be active.

Had my meniscus torn surgery this morning. Was about 20- 30 minute procure. Have been using my ice pack all day and taking my pain medication as instructed. My question is, the orthopedic surgeon told my husband they removed a lot of quote " Red junk" in there as well . I was not out of recovery yet when he gave this information to my husband, and my husband said he did say what it was ??? Does anyone know what he is referring to ?? Tried to google this and found nothing .lol any information would be greatly appreciated :) Th

Had surgery on my ACL and Meniscus almost 4 weeks ago. My meniscus was repaired and because of it i have been non weight bearing since then (no walking or driving). Hopefully by Wednesday next week I will be walking with 1 crutch making it a little over 4 weeks before I can WALK. Not sure on the total recovery time as I also tore my ACL

probly scar tissue. the doc will tell you at the post op.

OP If they are just scraping it, you will be back to 100% in 2-3 weeks. Its a super mellow surgery tbh. If they are repairing it you will be out 6 ish months. Dont do anything stupid in the meantime or you will be having both the medial AND lateral meniscus' repaired.

Prolly hit the gym in the mean time, make your recovery go faster. My knees are fucked, so you'll get used to it.
