Member karma doesn't matter?

looking over the top 100, there are people with low exchange numbers (4s and even a 3) and they are still top 100...so does member's rating others karma matter at all?

from what i understand, karma is a formula of posts, content added (pictures/videos), donations, purchases from the shop and others so someone could suck and post shit and everyone could give them 0's but they buy alot of shit and donate or something

i believe this can happen when you first start posting and the content posting is so horrific that people just give you a zero and you basically have nothing going for you so it goes to zero

from what i've seen you start out with zero and then depending on the quality of your posts and content uploaded etc you're assigned a number accordingly, so you'll get up to like 150 or something soon but you'll never start out in the thousands, you have to work up to it
i have really low karma and my exchange is like 5.5

Personally I don't like how Karma is extremely focused on your picture and video posting. I've seen people with extremely high karma (10 or 20k) with only a few hundred or thousand posts and every post they make is complete garbage.

I stopped looking at karma a long time ago. Now I just look at their username and I have a pretty good idea of content they've posted and whether or not they are legit.

Well the idea is to have many different metrics to rate a member by. I mean what makes a good member to one person won't be the same as another. So no matter how much we edit the karma system, its not going to work for everyone.

I like the way it has turned out. I think there's still tweaks, but I'm amazed at how it actually does a somewhat good job at picking out members who contribute in one way or another.

I guess in some way it is a good system. I just think there are quite a few members who don't deserve such high karma.

i believe that I am a respectable member of the site, but i dont post much media. I think this sort of thing should be fixed a little. I mean who really remembers to go down and rate someone because of their good post?

Word, I know most of the regular posters on this site, so I can remember the people who make helpful posts vs. the people who make garbage posts all the time.

Karma has gotten a lot better now that there is a fair amount of member input. It definitely does contribute though. I don't understand how their are members in the top 100 that have really low member to member ratings. Something is fishy with the some of the orange names on the top 100. Like ParkCity, only has 200something posts and low member ratings. But they are very high on the list. Overall I think the karma rating system seems to be working very well for the most part.

I'm pretty sure certain aspects of karma aren't figured into your average until midnight or something like that. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure around 12am your karma gets updated from daily contributions. I'm not really sure why it would drop 500 points immediately. Maybe a few members rated you poorly or something? I know I've karma rated people low before and have probably seen 500 point differences.

is the karma system weighted? ie, if you have a ton of karma and rate someone 10, they will have a huge jump, or if you have low karma and rate someone 10, it will be a smaller bump.

Haha yeah. Just the other day i saw someone with 0 karma and over 1000 posts or something and i gave him 10/10 and he got 11000 karma points

moment is a newer member (not even a year) with a whopping 31 posts and is top 10. it seems like team update give a ton of karma...pretty bs considering it's pretty much advertising, and is very limited to who does it.

just did a test. i rated someone with 0 karma 10, and it went to 25. rated someone who was at like 2500 a 10, and they jumped a couple hundred. interesting... i guess the higher your karma gets, the easier it is to get more? something like that..

I'm surprised I personally have above 10K on karma. I didn't think people payed attention to my posts, let alone give me karma. lol.

I rated somebody a 9, their karma went down, I changed it to a 10 and it went back to where it was before. Is it supposed to be like that? I thought having 5 as neutral would make sense but I have been gone for a long time. If this is old news just rate me 0/10.

i kinda like the karma system because its good for everyone, but if you dont post trash, and you post pictures/vids, then you get way more karma
