Melodic hardcore is hardcore that's melodic. Is it that difficult? The whole "emo" name is stupid. Guaranteed no "emo" band would call themselves "emo".

 
not true at all. many kinds say they like emo, and there are plenty of bands that call themselves emo.

for the record, I have always considered all the bands onn Victory that didnt play ska, emo.

haha At The Drive-In isn't emo. it's post/prog punk, with a hint of their own styles. If you knew anything about Omar Rodreguiz and Cedric Bixler-Zavala then you would know they they are far from emo.

I wouldn't really call Boys Sets Fire Hard Core either, yeah they have some heavy songs, but mainly I'd just lump em into a General Rock/Punk influenced catagory. A lot of their songs are good, but mellow.

Wrong. Threadbare.... not a single breakdown in the entire album.... still hardcore? You bet your buttons. Breakdowns do not equal hardcore.... I may not know what does, but I know it's not breakdowns.

 
hardcore = breakdowns. that's what defines hardcore from metal, screamo... etc. i'm not even going to bother getting into music theory on this website... not worth it.

it seems like this stage of life for a lot of people around our age is like when you are playing a video game and you beat the Final Boss, only to find out that it was just a decoy Final Boss and the real Final Boss is ten times stronger. and you used all of your life and special powers on the decoy.

when i think of melodic hardcore i think of haste the day. catchy sing alongs combined with head splitting breakdowns. at the drive in is progressive rock/ screamo. most importantly tho, if a band sounds good then listen to them. dont worry about if theyre emo or if theyre metalcore or whatever. just listen and rock out. have a sweet day.

 
yeah no shit.. who cares what anyone else thinks about your style of music.. if you like it then it fucking rocks. but as to the original discussion, the phrase 'melodic hardcore' makes me think of Atreyu. they are so damn good (IMHO) because they mix that hard crunching guitar, fast drums, hard base guitar, and gut wrenching screaming with real melodic vocals... i think it just makes the music have so much more depth.

some friggen sick ass hardcore bands are As I Lay Dying, Circle Takes The Square, In The Arms of Providence and Beloved old Hopesfall The Chariot, As Cities Burn, and Fear Before the March of Flames. Other bands like, The Appleseed cast, Settlefish, Armor For Sleep, explosions in the sky, circa survive, And You Will Know Us by the Trail Of Dead, Benton Falls, Saosin, City of Caterpillar, Engine Down, Joy Division, As Tall as lions, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Sparta, These Arms are Snakes, and Modest Mouse and ugly cassanova are just fuckin sick bands to chill to. what do you think

Most of the shit you guys are talking about is just garbage and I dont how to categorize it. I like Beloved though. Listen to stuff like Verse, Another Breath, and Ruiner if you want good Melodic Hardcore. Now Piss off Ive spoken
