i recently sent in various complaints to pats peak and now i have gotten responses. they want me to go and meet with them about my displesure with the park manager and to discuss what i think should be done with the park. and she wants me to talk directly with the park manager. how am i supposed to do that without fightin with him?

If you told us the natures of your letters/emails than NS would know where you stand and how to help you.

And fight? Don't really know what you mean by that. Your talk with the manager should address what you have seen in previous years while bringing suggestions to the table. There should not be a point in your conversation where it will ever be appropriate to raise your voice. You need to respect the resorts insurance policy; there are many restrictions in that thing that sound ridiculous such as the size of gaps on rails in some situations. Resorts are prohibited on what they can build. Don't rag on the guy at all. There is no incentive for the park manager to help you if you are being a douche. Go to the meeting with sketches of ideas for what the park could have in it. Not everyone is a good park skier at will hit big features, there isn't much incentive for smaller resorts to have huge features if the resort is not trying to attract that crowd.

Lastly, don't get mad at me for this but how old are you?

thanks t rob. and idk why i said the arguing thing. don't get mad at me for this but im 14. not one of those kids thats a dumb ass on here though.

if i were you i would make a list of the exact things i was disappointed with, why i was disappointed with them, and suggestions as to how they could be fixed. that way you can still have a discussion and not get upset that you might get off topic.

but lets say you dont like the way the jumps are built, ask him who builds the jumps and where they learned to build them. then say something you like about them, like say where they are located, but tath after visiting other local resorts such as loon or wv or something that you noticed that pats peak is lacking becuase the lips are poorly made and they throw you back and you feel that becuase of that the jumps are unsafe. then suggest if the lips were rampyer then maybe they would be safer.

or if all the rails are ride on ask if they are that way based on some sort of insurance policy or if it by choice, if it is by choice ask him why he prefers rails set up like that, and then explain to him why you would like them another way, and suggest that maybe this upcoming season they could try it with a rail or two and see how it goes.

you could even off to help this season by helping the park manager to create a survey about the park and help him hand it out to kids in the park a few days so he can get feedback as to how things are going and how people like the changes and what they would like to see in the future.

it all really depends on what your complaints are about. just remember to be respectful and understand that there might be reasons you dont know about, maybe the park manager only works 20 hours a week becuase that is all they can afford to pay him so he does the best with the time he has. maybe he really just doesn't care, but give him the benefit of the doubt at first, it makes you look like a bigger person.

good luck! let us know how it goes!

HAHAHAHAHAHA . honestly, if someone ever raised their voice, let alone took a swing, during a park concepts meeting, i'd end the meeting and ban them for life.

you're going to want to be tactful, polite, and truthfully... you'll need an explaination as to where you were all winter and why you couldn't just roll up to the park staff in season. i've never met a park staff that ignores customers while they;re diggin on features.

also, remember, you're 14.... and you're criticizing someones lively hood.... like i said... if you were meeting me and anything less than stoked, with some new ideas, i'd give ya the boot.

approach it like you've got some ideas you'd like to share, and that you are light years more mature than everyone else your age.

good luck dude.

like i said don't mind the fighting thing. haha. i don't know why the hell i said that. and i would have gone up to the park crew plenty of times this season, but it consists of about three people that are never out digging during the day.

One idea I have for you is to offer to volunteer your time whenever you can for the season, I've had park rats come to me all bent about something and I've offered them jobs to help out and get a better understanding of how my resort operates Freestyle Terrain and anything can happen from there, some have talked big and when it comes time to do the actual work part, they look sweet standing there holding a rake and/or shovel while everyone else is making shit happen and take credit for nothing or they could develop a good understanding of the resorts position on freestyle terrain and make the park better for the riders and themselves.

I've also noticed that about half of all park rats hate or dislike their resorts park and the other half enjoy themselves. I always try to offer up stuff in the park from what my park riders are saying but also need to make that suggestion fit into the best indusry practices, that means all the stuff you might see in the mags or videos or on this website is not always going to be acceptable for the public in most resorts but I'm sure your suggestions are more practical.

Just be prepared and learn that not all resorts have the resources to offer the park of your dreams, most times it's one maybe 2 guys that work their ass off the give you what they can so you have something to throw yourself off of and they were that guy who went to the management and talked themselves into a job doing what they can to make it better, what all park guys need is more help!

now i know what i need to do better. i have told the park guys that i am willing to work with them as much as i can to help them improve the park but they still won't let me help out. and your right. our park crew consists of three people.

haha ya, the park at pats is a joke. at the end of last year everything was like 2 or three inches above the snow. and this one time a gaper tried to fastplant the down box and ate it so we had to make the lip enormous, it was really stupid.

good luck bro. There is a lot of work needed there, but it could be done. I've heard Phil can be a dick, but have never meet him, so have no opinion. Whatever the case, be respectful.

Pretty much what the guy above me said, and also, put park fund towards jibs instead of unnecesarily massive turbulence park signs. I ride there mid-week everyday from 3:30-5:00. anyone else on NS there during that time?

BaggyTEE, what typ of improvements did you have in mind? It sounds like your concerns are mainly geared twards the workers, but if you have some insight as to what the new "FS" park is going to be all about .... do tell. I know it's next to "night slope" and has it's own tow lift.

what up Knldge (like the sn). I'm sure i've seen you on the hill. I'm an instructor at pat's usually during the weekend and sometimes during the week, when i'm not at Mt. Snow. spend practically all my time in the park crashing.

somewhat towards the workers as the rails and mostly jumps slacked last year. but mostly that a real park crew needs to be established that will go out a rake everything. last year i told them i'd be willing to rake everything at least once and day if they'd let me grab a rake, but they would not allow me to. i already sent them about a dozen rail plans for new boxes and rails. money shouldn't be a problem as they have quite a bit put into the budget for the making of F5. I don't know if you know Ben Ross but he is one of the guys on the current park staff and he told me that he is trying to get them to build the rails i sent plans for but so far nothing has been done. the tow rope is starting to be put in and many new lights have been put up as well. anything else i forgot to answer?

thx for the info.... unfortunately, i don't think Pat's will ever get their park squared away. Too much of their funding is put into other elements of the mountain. If has always been more of a "family" oriented mountain and that's where their focus will stay.

because pats peak has such a wonderful family atmosphere. lol

But yeah, Loon is on another level, but if you don't have car, you take what you can get.

Crotched is 25 min from my place. I was really impressed with their park last year. some excellent rythm sections and decent layout . Just got the Noreaster pass for MT Snow and Crotched.... can't wait.

sry for deflecting the OP into left field

or...ski loon. its not worth traveling to a lame spot to ski lame terrain. get some initiative and ski a real mountain. find a ride or get a car and make your own.

meeting with the pats peak terrain park staff is going to accomplish nothing. that place has no money to improve the park, they have no rails the set up, and they have a severe lack of proper staff to do anything with the funds that they may have. deal with what they give you, or migrate somewhere that can actually offer something to park skiers.

nh is a VERY small state, you have no excuse to ski at a shitty mountain.

im trying to help improve pats peaks parks so it is known more for them. but you are right that they don't have proper staff to do what is needed.

it's my income. is that an excuse. i try to get up to snow or loon at least once a week, but pats is great if you're trying to make some money as a ski instructor

if you have that big of a problem with it, ask for a job. u will find out very quickly that it is hard work moving a box around, or putting in a rail properly. does pats peak also still have their park on that wicked flat trail, if so dont even bother asking them to change their jumps much. come into the meeting with sugustions and pictures of what u mean from other resorts, if u show them that it works somewhere else they would believe it much better than a drawing. there r plenty of pics on ns to show what u mean. If she still dosnt listen to u who cares, skiing is about having fun. u cant change how much fun u have jus because of the features, u change it with how u want to approch the features, and who you ride with. if u ride with a kid who is going to bitch about every single fucking thing, "oh its to sticky" or "Its to icy" its going to rub off on you and u r gonna have a bad time. Then only part of a vibe that they control is the music that they play, if they play any at all. besides there are other places in nh, waterville, loon, gunstock, cranmore, crotched, sunapee, whaleback, ragged. this is the first time i have heard of somebody going to this extreme with their park, most ppl have a 20 min period over it and are done. when u r in there, be polite, the season hasnt started yet, and she is comming to see u.
