Meditation

A few weeks ago I went on a 10 day trip to Costa Rica and began to indulge myself into meditation. Now when I first thought about meditation, I did not think it would work because it did not really make any sense to me. While on this trip I began to slowly become more aware that reality itself is merely perception. This perception is created by the brain. Now I have no idea how everything in this universe was created but I have begun to believe in the theory that this world may in fact all be "fake". Now I do not mean that we as human beings are part of some large scale sims video game, but more along the lines that the brain itself created everything and anything to essentially keep itself busy. Here is where I insert the process of meditating.

It began as simple thoughts that I was just trying to relieve stress and try to live my life "sound mind sound body". And meditating quickly became a tool that I can use for solving almost any problem. The first time I tried to meditate was pretty predictable for myself, because I could not stay focused. My eyes when closed would rush around trying to find a fixture to focus on. This caused my mind to not slow down at all and only keep pace with itself in a normal routine. Around a fornight ago, I tried to sit on my roof at approximately 3am and meditate whilst gazing upon the stars. This helped me because I had a fixture for my eyes to lock onto, but my mind could run free. This is where I first experienced the disconnection of my mind from my body.

It was an "eye" opening experience because never before in my life have I truly felt free. As cliche as it may sound I was trying to latch onto a thought appeared in my mind of myself skiing. It was as if the thought was running away and I was trying to catch it. Eventually I was able to get what seemed to be only a few feet away, and that's when it hit me. I took a large breath and while I was exhaling, I could feel my "soul" leaving through my mouth and joining with this thought.

The next thing that happened was a tad bit aggravating, but kind of expected. I was so relieved that I was free from my physical body, that I began hysterically laughing. The sudden movements and laughter knocked me out of the meditation state and back into my body.

This experience of "leaving" the body is the reason I feel as if reality is fake. Mainly because I created a thought inside my mind and began experiencing it as if it were "really" happening. So my theory is that reality itself is only the perception of the mind. The brain can create anything it wants whenever it wants. Thus leaving me stranded with the constant thought of "Why?". Which I seem to ask myself every waking moment of my life.

What sort of response are you expecting here

Nothing really, I just needed to get that off of my mind. This thread could never get any responses for all I care, just needed to say some things.

Want to trip balls while meditating? Download a frequency generator app for your phone where you can dial in specific frequencies (i have tone generator for iphone). put headphones on and smoke some weed.Sit in a dark corner on something comfortable , close your eyes and start to meditate. Very quickly you will be able to control the frequency your hearing and make it dance, aka pick up parts of the tone and manipulate it with your mind. relax your eyes and soon you will start to see things. I trip at about 40HZ, feels good but dont discount the higher frequency's even though there uncomfortable at first.

Step 2, rhythmic breathing. Basically full inhale and exhale by fully expanding lungs, then speed it up. As soon as that rush of 02 is hammered into your blood stream, Your body WILL MATCH THE VIBRATION THAT YOU ARE LISTENING TO. If you have experiance meditating you can do this all in about 8 minutes, if your new might take you 20.

I also ask myself that same question every waking moment of my life. So does reality exist in the perception of the mind? It is true to conclude that what we are aware of in reality is what we perceive therefore perception is separate from reality and consciousness works for physical reality.

Are you referring to It’s Shankara’s definition of Advaitavedanta where the changing world you perceive is merely an appearance?

The world definitely exists however it is not real. So if the effect preexists in the cause, there is no real change. For example, you create a jar out of clay, however there was already a jar in that clay. So you could say change is merely an appearance.

But you may say that a a jar has a certain form. However, form is not real because form is new and something can’t be made or come out of nothing, that is impossible. So form has no reality of its own and is simply an appearance, similar to the big bang theory. Likewise, time is our perception of change. So time exists however it is not real. Therefore consciousness contains all reality.

Personally, I believe that true reality has no distinction among judgment, feeling, willing and perception.

My best friend has been in India for the past 3 months at The Osho Meditation Resort. He says it has been the most amazing and eye opening experience. He gets back at the end of this month and is going to help me learn to free myself from my mind.

It is very interesting stuff, just a matter of how close minded we are as human being.

You made me want to try it !! K+ for writing it :)

No problem man, it really wasn't anything special I literally just wrote my thoughts in any random order. With no end really.

I used to do a whole lot more meditation than i do now. i really need to get back into it. i recommend Kevin Griffin to anyone who may be interested. I found that guided meditations really helped me when i first started because it is easy (for me) to get distracted.

heres a couple links to look into for those who may be interested.

This is how I first started also, because I would get distracted very easily. But now I can do it by myself withing like 15-20 mins.

I incorporated meditation as a part of my daily routine (I slip up once a while) 3-4 years ago. I have gone on longer retreats and done longer/more intensive practice, but mostly I stick to 5 minutes in the morning and 5 at night. The tradition that I practice in suggests that you don't really do much more than that as you start.

From one meditator to another, pick a tradition or lineage and stick with it. Find the one you like and deepen your relationship to it. Theres a Buddhist metaphor for those who sample too many different kinds of spirituality but don't stick with one "many shallow wells do not reach water."

Yea I have read that quote before, it really is true. I stick to the same "mentality" every time. It generally brings me back to the "same place".

Use the links that Calb3rt linked they are the same ones that I used. Or you can just Google like any Buddhist meditation method and read up. That's all I did to start.

Lucky him. I would love to hear about his experience when he gets back.

you fucking hippie, get a job and do something worth something, inb4 you go make hemp

General programming = You , young man are in the Matrix. Right away you knock down on a producer( someone who makes hemp) and tell them to get a job (consumer). Get a Job so they can what buy a house, new car and a bigger TV because that's what makes you successful ??? You are trapped in your mind! You become a slave to those things, slave to your TV, slave to your mortgage and slave to your car payments. MOST OF YOUR GOALS WILL CAUSE YOU TO BECOME AN INDENTURED SERVANT TO THE SYSTEM. But fuck the Hippies because they are Hippies? Because they see what you don't and you ENVY their life of freedom to the point of hatred :) Good luck with your credit score and your loan approvals, your monthly payments and paying off your student loans.

WHAT THE FUK

Here is your answer for all you philosophical douchebags who have too much time to think. Your mommy and daddy banged just like all their mommys and daddys did before and created you. Your brain is a sac of evolution and that is all. We were put on the planet to eat, shit, and live, nothing more, nothing less. The fact that we have evolved and come to an equilibrium whereby we have no natural predators has made our minds into a frenzy. We are animals just like the spider that crawled into your mouth last night the only real difference is we have a bigger brain. We are the happiest, safest, most baby'd species out there and everyone is all like "what is the meaning of life" "i am a misunderstood" "can i make a ghost exit my mouth and connect with my thoughts" like wat?

you answered your own question. the brain is bored so it makes shit up

that is the essence of life

You can believe whatever you choose to believe, and if you want to think that we are here for no reason, then why are you on ns. You should be running around trying to find food and find your mate so you can reproduce and die. There is a reason that we have logical thinking and a conscious/sub-conscious that thinks differently then animals. If we are here to reproduce and die, then why don't we die after we reproduce? Many species of animals die once they "finish". For example when a male bumblebee climax's inside of a female, it's testicles explode and it dies. How come that doesnt happen to humans when we climax?
