Meditation

Sarah Jessica Parker does it too

this is a serious question, i know most of you don't really like me. However, i am curious if some of you enjoy to meditate.

It seems like most peoples idea of meditation consists of a monk or Indian person sitting with there legs crossed going "huuuummmmmmmmmm" or some other shit like Rafeeki from the lion king. The truth is that the benefits of regular meditation are vast, and it take less that 30 minutes a day. In short, to meditate is to silence the mind of the constant chatter that it produces throughout the day. By putting a temporary stop to the motor of thought that would otherwise run all day, and which often focuses on meaningless and unnecessary topics. Unfortunately, despite my advocation, I haven't been keeping up with my meditation the last couple of months but while I was doing it twice a day, there were noticeable improvements in my happiness, mental clarity, and quality of sleep. By the way I would only need about 5-6 hours of sleep a night and wake up feeling refreshed (This additional time to my day of course required the slight trade of time spent meditating).

Protip: whoring your nudes on tinychat is not "meditation". I hardly think an enlightened individual acts the way you do.

Yeah, I do. If I'm lucky I'm able to slip away to my backyard patio, or my veranda that overlooks the city a few times a day.

Oh shit. This is a thread about meditation...

All along, I thought this was a thread about masturbation. Pardon me on the little 'freudian slip'

Took two hits of acid a few hours ago. I think it's that time that one should be meditating. Despite what you more conservative NSers may think, meditating is pretty beneficial. Helps you keep focus when you need to and lets you be abstract when its appropriate.

meditation is so fucking key to enjoying this consciousness...if you don't know how to calm your mind properly, you're gonna have a bad time.

browsing ns on acid sounds like the shittiest way to spend a trip. i hope you're doing alright now gtfo and throw on some jerry garcia band or listen to dark side of the moon all the way through

I think my adhd is too bad to be able to sit and meditate. Its a shame because I think it could help me a lot with my anxiety and stuff

I do what i want. i love to meditate, it's calms me down and keeps me level headed. Why do you have such a problem with what i chose to do? Does it affect the way you live? does it harm you in anyway? I don't think so and if it doesn, thats your own problem. Don't overreact to something so insignificant, don't judge other peoples lives and the way you think they should be. Everyones different and thinks differently, if you could see things from my point of view or maybe took the time to ask me why i do these things, you might change your mind on the way you view me.

You never know what shit really looks like until you meet it face to face. It really isn't a waste. All of my prior trips have been outside with friends and as far from technology as possible. I was curious to see what the polar opposite would be like. Once the acid started kicking in, I realized why tripping outside with friends and away from technology is preferable. I did a mix of watching videos on the Internet, writing, meditating, listening to music, and looking at all the visuals. It wasn't shitty at all, just different.

its easier to start with someone who already meditates frequently. Have them guide you through it. focusing on your breathing really helps as well.

Sit down, assume a cross legged position. Don't slouch or lean to one side. Hands on your knees or clasped in front of you.

Close your eyes, slow your breathing, and try to count to 10 with your breath. Restart the count if you lose track of what breath you were on or think about anything other than your breath.

So: in, out (1). in, out (2). in, out (3). And so on until you reach 10.

If you breathe slowly and try to really focus on your breath and the count, this will be more of a challenge than it seems.

This is essentially the practise of zazen.

Also, when a thought pops into your head, don't try to push it out; instead, just let it go. One of the major benefits of meditating frequently is that you're able to observe your own mind in action. Instead of say, reacting to something that makes you upset, you might be able to detach yourself from the situation for a moment and make a rational decision about the best course of action. This is mindfullness.

Also, keep in mind that meditating once a month is essentially useless for your overall wellbeing. It is a practise, and as such you need to put time into it every day if you want to improve and experience the benefits of meditation. Some zen masters even believed that the sitting practise of meditation (zazen) was enlightenment in itself. The idea being that the practise and the goal are one and the same.

Another way to do it that I like if I'm feeling lazy or haven't meditated in a while, is to use a simple mantra:

In, out, calm, relax. You say "in" and "calm" while inhaling, and "out" and "relax" while exhaling. Its a simple way to calm your mind if you find the 10 count too difficult or get fidgety.

Also, nasal breathing is key. Always try to keep your focus on your breath.

i am a zen buddhist so i practice zazen regularly=) once you find your minds eye it seems like your seeing everything for he first time and with a non-biased view. its wonderful

If that's the case, then is he saying that he's so inferior to Ellie that she can toss him around? Also, I think that's a lemur.

Usually I just boof 3 xanx and pass out in a pile of my parents warm laundry, works well for me, but each to their own
