This forum is getting ridiculous lately

Guide lines to keep in mind if you at all want this forum to help us become better at whatever art we practice:

1. Your opinion isn't fact, the only people who can't let things go on the internet are the ones who get walked over in real life

2. When critiquing something give reasons, not hate

3. When someone's wrong you do not call them stupid and tell them to get off NS, you post a link to a site which backs up your argument and if they don't accept it you don't take it personally because it's only hurting them not you

4. Just because eheath is old and expirienced doesn't mean you should be cynical like he tends to be, I know you see a fairly good film maker and want to emulate him but his film making doesn't come from and is most likely only hindered from his cynicism

5. Everyone just stop being assholes and this will be a much better place

6. A discussion is what two people have when they are looking for the right answer, an argument is what people have when they're fighting over whose right. Have a discussion.

7. This hate and bullshit coming out of here lately only hurts yours and everyone else's feed back and makes the learning curve steeper, your not that cool so shut up and help people out it'll make this a better place.

8. Just because you know more than someone doesn't make you cooler

 
i completely agree. I don't try and "defend my opinion" until someone presses theirs on me. Eheath does this shit all the time.

I agree. Some of the bickering is crazy on this forum. I bet there's a ton of kids on here under the age of 18 that have yet to have their balls drop.

 
Also, its not my fault you're an idiot, im not the only one to think this. You are either blatantly trolling, which is unacceptable in M&A or you're just really fucking stupid. The things you have said have been so far off from what an intelligent film maker would say.
 
No, this thread is about you as well, i HATE when people in M&A callout kids because of their age, I bet that most of the " ton of kids on here under the age of 18 that have yet to have their balls drop." are much more knowledgable than you are, and probably much better filmakers than you or photographers, so your invalid point is invalid.
 
For the record the kid was mad because you dismissed his question completely in the thread, and then you and about ten other kids just told him he was wrong about your video which although he was, you didn't provide any evidence or links for him to check out, you all just started hating on him calling him and idiot and tell him to leave. It doesn't do anything. This discussion in this thread about the tixtor thread is done, we are now looking forward not backwards. Everyone get over it.
 
i mean come on. until i got into college i had virtually no idea what anything surrounding media and arts was. not to say that you, or other younger people on these forums aren't knowledgeable by any means, i am just saying that experience helps a lot more than just reading up a lot on people like philip bloom and forums like dvxuser. my 2cents
 
Content-wise, this forum sucks too. 98% of it consists of people who just got their t3i and want a critique or want advice on their next lens. I know they're asking for legitimate help (and people do give great critiques) but it's just that is ALL this forum is. It may as well be called "Entry Level Video"
 
i have found dvxuser in some cases to be even worse than ns, there are some really stupid people with tons of money.
 
youve gotta be fucking kidding me. In my opinion, some of the most frequent contributors to M&A, like myself, DTF, AbeK, Mikeblatt (maybe), and others are still in high schhool. get over it.
 
Whose to say we do not have experience though? and also, I can pretty confidently say that the guy that i quoted before doesn't have much experience either..
 
thats true. i don't know. I just know that i did not buy my first camera til i was a sophomore in college. so for all i know you could have more experience than me at 16, 17, whatever. i still stand by my point, but in some cases i'm sure that i am wrong
 
I'm not saying your wrong, i'm just stating that times have changed, kids are getting cameras younger, therefore, by the time there in college they'll have as much experience as a 20-30 year old 10 or 20 years ago...
 
Yup. But the thing is, people post up their stuff for crit and then get all defensive when you don't like their stuff. It's bullshit.

If you post up your stuff, expect an opinion. If you don't agree with it, then fine, but you need to respect it. Giving excuses as to why there is something wrong with your work are just that, fucking excuses. Especially all of you who hope to get into the field and get pissed when someone tells you your shit is fucked, especially in the nice way that people do it here in M&A. I personally think everyone in this forum is TOO NICE. Wait until you get into the real world and have your peers crit your work, they will tear you a new asshole. That is, if they even waste their time looking at it.

Obviously there is a way to be constructive, but it's hard when you are trying to critique someones shit and every response to your every crit is "well I didn't do that BECAUSE there was a pole in my way/I shot it at this and this time/I didn't have time/etc". Excuses.

If you want your shit to get better, you need to hear some harsh stuff otherwise there is no way you will improve. Seriously, people get fucking coddled in this forum but then those same people try to rip on eheath for whatever fucking reason, or they rip on kids who are slightly less experienced then them.

Listen to the advice that you are getting in here, don't get offensive, and push yourself to get better. Isn't that what you're here for!?

Yeah hating on someone or disregarding their ideas/opinions because of their age is some NSG bullshit and shouldn't be brought here.

Maybe they aren't well informed or haven't done much researhc, and thats maybe a reason to disregard them, but if they are trying and make an effort to you help you, even in the slightest, consider their stance.
 
it is sad because a lot of people in this forum helped me getting my gears. i was so happy to see people pm'ed me to say: hey you should chek out this lens, this kind of filmaking etc........ now people are just bitching at each others like chickens without head.
 
We need a mod specifically for this forum. ive already PM'd some mods about it, no response tho. just give some one mod permission for this forum only.

I don't come to NS as often as I used to. I remember that coming to M&A would let me spend a decent amount of time going through informative threads while ignoring some BS... I'm fairly shocked that it seems to be the opposite right now.

Does anybody else want to bring back the photo contests? I feel like right now, that would be a good contribution to M&A, especially if people actually participated. They've been gone for long enough that I think their return would motivate people to go ahead and shoot, and in the process, learn a thing or two about photography instead of getting defensive over honest critiques.

I have gotten into photography in the time since they've been gone. I'm so down to have a reason to shoot certain things, and get critique on the photos that get produced. Bring them back!

I feel like this forum gets more traffic than it used to as well, maybe that's the reason why it's getting so diluted with bullshit? It's cheaper and easier to get into filming/photography/music production than ever before, so with more beginner artists there are going to be people who don't know exactly what they're talking about.
 
this, even after people see how hostile some "critique" threads can become, they will still continue to post critique stuff and then get really mad when someone says i don't like it because of blah blah. don't post your stuff if you don't wanna get ripped to shreads, and if people come into this forum and just start talkin up a shitstorm without any sort of proof they even know what they are talking about, that is where the problem is

i meant to say something about this issue in another thread as a rage post yesterday but decided not too because it would only further the arguments.. but thsis was called for.
 
I'm actually a mod, and I pretty much am the only one that frequents this forum. That's my biggest contribution to the mod team, 60% of the content I read on NS is in here.

Everyone needs to shut the fuck up, have a conversation here and stop being so douchy! Shit! This thread was necessary and everything he said was legit.

People aren't too nice, a lot of people are either condescending know-it-alls or pretentions shitheads. Your opinion is valid, sure, but your ego should be checked at the door. The other people that

If you don't like the "jus got t3i crit my snapshots lol" threads, then don't reply to them. It's not fair to just delete them, even though it doesn't seem like it a lot of those people are serious and just don't know anything, including how and when to ask for crit.

If someone actually asks for crit, and you feel like giving it, then give it. Don't say "I like that shot at 4:15 but i think it's overedited lol."

I wish I could ban people for arguing. I'll delete posts if you're enough of a dick too. Just being an asshole or being cocky for the sake of it is considered "trolling" based on the context though, and you will get banned for that.
 
I wouldagree with this thread...the only thing I can say is that eheath..i know you are a great filmmaker and have atun of knowledge about this stuff but your too hard on people who don't it drives me crazy sometimes because it seems like you have a big ego rather than being helpful
 
this. I would be soo down for photo contests. it would give everyone a reason to get out and shoot instead of just sit here on M&A and shit on people because they don't know what their doing

You really are not helping us prove our point, we're tired of getting disregarded because of our age, you saying you "get sick shots" and, "are not a dumbass" proves nothing for our argument and actually undermines us.

But I appreciate your minimal effort.
 
How about everyone stops getting their feelings hurt. It's just the internet, get over it. It's a resource, not a lifestyle.

From what I have gathered from this thread, the 18+ guys are blaming all of the bullshit on the under 18's. Sure, we may make a large portion of that number, but it's not entirely us. Besides, this is MEDIA AND ARTS, why can't we just discuss about MEDIA AND ARTS rather than bickering about who's better and such, and blaming those people for all of it.

If you didn't call out those kids, there wouldn't be a problem in the first place, *cough* EHEATH *cough*.
 
It's not a resource if every thread turns into bickering and name calling, and arguing about who knows more. I don't think anyone's feelings are hurt, everyone is just annoyed.

And ^ only some people are blaming the younger kids. The majority of everyone is the problem, it isn't one or the other.
