Meathead Films Skiier dies on Mt. Mansfield

I'll make some turns for alec, and i will definitely think of him the next time i make a decision on snow safety.

Wasn't there an article on Meathead Films in powder or freeze a while ago?

And dspin, now is not the time to argue, make your comments later when people have put a little distance between themselves and the tragedy, if you don't feel compelled to write Rip don't do it, but don't hate on those who care.

only on newschoolers.com can the death of a skier become a debatable event. I know Antadam (Newhard) and if theres anyone I personally know that i'd put enough trust in for bc safety, it would be him. The kids smarter (haha and shorter) then most people I know.

for the Meatheads guy who died, and the meatheads, thats harsh. I hate saying 'RIP INSERT NAME' in these threads, because its a really meaningless comment that takes no time.

Im sure he loved to ski, was good at it, and even though he left the earth damn early, at least he was making turns the last moments of his life. I dont wish death upon anybody, but if I had my choice of old and in the hospital, and going out doing something i love, id choose the latter. Hey, maybe its nothing but powder days and 50 and sunny where he is now...one can only wish.

So my condolonces (spelling) go out to him, his friends, his family, and anyone else who knew him. Hope its better on the other side

I find it completely ridiculous to have an online argument over 'I ski more big mountain than you' etc, etc. When it comes down to it, someone that loved to ski died skiing and that is tragic. Anyone on hear that has lost a friend or family member knows the heart ache and the suffering that goes with it. When someone types in RIP, such as i did in an earlier post, it wasnt a heartless act and i moved on with my life. I'm more empathetic to the family and friends of this skier. I put myself in the place of those who were present when he died and I pray I never have to witness the death of an athlete or a friend in front of my camera or at anytime for that matter.

The east coast is pouring out tons of new talent and if u ask me, the talent in the west has been dropping. dont make fun of east coasters cuz we could kick ur ass.

i mentioned this in another thread but i'll say it again. i knew him and his family really well and he was the nicest guy ever. i'm still in disbelief because i just saw him about a month ago at the schooled premiere in stowe and it's hard to believe that he's gone. it goes to show that stuff like this can happen no matter how much preparation and safety precautions go into it because these guys knew what they were doing but there's always a risk

As a bro who skied with Alec on numerous trips, I just have this to say, he lived each day to the fullest, never took bullshit from anyone, and always had a smile on his face.

on the other hand, with common sense, you shouldnt need an avi beacon though in reality, it is indispensable. if youve made a good call on weather, and checked the terrain your travelling in & snowpack, + time it in the right time of day and dont do something stupid like posthole in a group, then you have very little risk of getting hit by an avalanche. suck it up dspin, its a last resort, and if your smart you wont ever need it

I have know Alec since his first day @ Killington as a member of the Freestyle Program. Alec was never the best moguls skier in the program however there was one thing for sure, Alechad a passion for skiing. Rain, Shine, Ice, Wind even just one trail open Alec was allways at practice trying to get better at the thing he loved. I lost touch with Alec the last few years and this Dec I was watching Meathead films Schooled with my 6 year-old son and saw Alec's segment. Nothing made me prouder than knowing that Alec stayed with the sport and had found his spot. Alec had become one of the symbols of eastcoast extreme skiing with many first decents and rippin tee runs. I had hoped to run it to Alec again and tell him how proud I was of him and his skiing acclompishments. I will allways use Alec as a role model in my program for younger skiers, who are trying to find there place in the ski world. Lets not let this post turn i to an argument, but a place to remember a fellow ski friend, who gave his life trying to entertain and impress us doing what we all love to do SKI. Alec you truly impressed me, You will be missed.
