Meanwhile, in Russia

Figured this needed to be posted in here alsohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPkE2hHneP4&feature=g-logo-xit/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

I had a pretty solid collection on phantasytour. Too lazy to find the thread and post them here. Some ridiculous shit goes on there.

Inb4 Gnartron...

and seriously, Russia is like the child who didn't get to play for like 70 years, and is making up for lost time...

Or the Catholic School Girl who just graduated from 14 years of All-Girls School and now will fuck anything that even has a moderately phallic shape.

Or the homeschooled kid from North Dakota who just won 10,000 bucks and a trip to Las Vegas...

Yeah, That's a pretty good analogy for Russia.

that is an awful analogy for russia, you think russia just became a vodka infused shitshow after the iron curtain was lifted? its always been that way buddy now thanks to the internet we have a chance to see it

why does like everyone have a recorder sitting on their dashboard?

hahah its probably like a requirement if you want insurance.

I'd have to say I completely disagree. If you know anything about the totalitarian ethics of the former USSR, you'd know that the people there were repressed in more ways than just the general 'having to live under a communist regime' thing...

Case in point - You know all these car crashes that have been happening in all of these videos? How many people under soviet times actually owned cars.. much less cars that worked well enough to drive over 50 on the highway to begin with...

There's a lot of newbie drivers in russia. Add that along to some of the gnarliest roads on the planet, crazy ugly road conditions to go along with them, and a police force that's still pretty inconsistant when it comes to enforcement (and is easily bribed), and you have this wilco tango foxtrot shit that's now happening.

And yeah, you're right, Russia perhaps has always been an Alcohol infused shitshow... Alcoholism is practically part of their culture (I mean, I think Vladamir the Great or something even told Islam to fuck off as the state religion, just because alcohol was not allowed...), but at the same time, do you think the ridiculous shit that happens today because of it would be as tolerated back then? They don't have Gulags now... so one could definitely say the penalties for doing something completely batshit while drunk is probably a little bit more lax now.

Add all that to the soviet influenced 'ingenuity in times of not having a spare wheel', and you have this kind of shit.

Actually, it's more that insurance companies in Russia are NOTORIOUS for dismissing claims, so now everyone who owns a car, also makes sure to have a dashboard camera installed so they have proof of an accident if they need to make a claim.

This is a classic.

...and I'm really not sure if I'd like to know the outcome of this accident. I suppose we can just assume everyone died horrifically.

70ish years of communist rule changes a lot about a country...

Before then it was practically pre-revolutionary France - status.

Sorry bud, that is very hard to believe. Sure, right now there are serious economic issues throughout, but you cannot simply make that sort of a claim. And by "you" I mean people in general. Like you said, accurate stats pre 91 are difficult to find.

I'll try to remember to read some of that stuff in the future. A bit too much right now, but it sounds interesting.

Gulags more/less ended after January 13th, 1960.

I'm sure that any 'standard of living' data came from Glasnost, as prior to that, Stalinist USSR was nearly as closed off as North Korea is today.

And from that, I'd go ahead and say Gnartron's not so off base.

Example being a few things I've seen and read about the USSR and East Germany post-unification... Many people miss the stability of the old regime, because at least you felt somewhat protected and even though you were relatively poor, at least you weren't Africa-Poor.. You still had to wait in line for bread and supplies, but at least it was always attainable. They weren't bread lines like depression-era America as everyone wants to think.

Now, it's very big dog-eat-little dog in russia. The rich are richer and the poor are poorer... More billionaires live in Russia than anywhere else in the world... on the flipside, they have one of the poorest and largest lower classes in the industrialized world.

And here's an abridged history lesson to a catchy tune - for those who know fuck all about the USSR other than gulags, vodka, youtube car crashes, and vladamir putin looking like James Bond..
