Meaning lost in songs

Has anyone noticed that most of the mainstream songs produced today have almost no meaning in the words.

The one thing why I really enjoy classic rock is for the fact that people made songs because they wanted to express themselves, not for the big bucks.

I listen to mostly underground music (music that most do not know about) simpily for the fact because I find a lot of it is more meaningful. There are still a ton of music out there these days that have meaning, but I find a lot of it is waterdowned celebrity shit.

ha sanybody ever heard of a band called smile empty soul? they opened for seether and they jammed. I would suggest pickin them up. I was into good charlotte when they were underground but they arent any more. also Autopilot off rocks pretty good too. But a lot of songs dont have meanin anymore, especially newschool hip hop. Its all just about gettin bitches fropm compton and shit. Or whinin about how you make millions and have it soo bad(eminem). Some songs like not mainstreem still got it goin on tho

classic rock ans oldies are awesome because of that. Country music also all has meaning.

As far as rap goes the only rap i find myself listening to anymore in old school rap when dre snoop 2 pac biggie ice cube nwa all those people were getting started and it was raw and the truth before they had bitches and phatt rides.

In my opinion i know its real popular now punk music sucks its the same fucking 3 cords it takes no talent to play punk and it all sounds the same and im open and like almost all music.

 
Sublime's songs have meaning. everclear, less than jake, pennywise and bob marley kick ass too.

country music does have a lot of meaning behind it. i think some of good charlotte's stuff has some good meaning behind it as well.

just because a band isn't on mtv doesn't make them underground. About good charolette, I don't get them. They understand what good music is, I know they do. I honestly think they think the same way everyone else does 'G.C. isn't 'punk' they play suck ass teeny bopper music' I know I'm trying to get at something, just don't know what. I don't really want to support G.C. but I know; they know; they suck.

I hate when people say they listen to underground music, like its better because no one has heard of it. Maybe no one has heard of it because it sucks. There are a lot of good underground bands, and a lot of crappy commercial, but you can't say that you listen to underground. Some of it has just as little meaning as the commercial junk.

 
ya weve come to a problem with a bunch of my friends... its there main goal to not be a 'follower' and find an underground band... its getting to the point where we cant share music sometimes together and it annoys me... and i know thats some ppls type, i like a bunch of undergrounders too, its just annoying, oh well...

these days, im listening to old music..like shit my dad listened to back in the day (well not that long ago). its good and has meaning.

i was in the car today and my sister was listening to the local pop station. i thought to myself, the majority of the population is so easy to control because they do whatever tehy need to do in order to be 'cool'. i was listening to the songs on the radio station and i thought to myself: 'this is honestly one of the worst song i have ever heard'. when these pop wannabes hear a song on the radio, the only reason they continue to listen to it is to be cool (well not the only reason obvoiously, but a big portion atleast). i could throw one of my 'not-so-popular' songs on the radio, from an artist that nobody's heard of, tell them its 50 cent, and it would become a huge hit.

now everybody's gonna go out and buy the american idol winner's cd because theyre 'cool'. i can really understand how hitler was so easily succesful into making all of the germans believe in white superiority. its all propaganda, although useless propaganda that ultimately gets us nowhere.

i can tell you all one thing, emo pop doesn't have meaning... i think that emo pop is the easiest music to produce ever with a lack of meaning and excess of complaining. im sorry but GC falls under emo pop. halarious enough, their song about rich people complaining applies directly to their emo asses complaining about their lack of friends and lives. funny when bands write songs about themselves.

im also into the classics, but a lotta other stuff as well. stuff is good.

I am not saying all underground music has meaning and mainstream music does.

I am just saying people making underground music have less of a chance of writting their music to make big bucks.

I find a lot of the mainstream bands have very little meaning in their songs (because a lot of them don't even write their own lyrics). That is just what I find, music is a way of releasing raw emotion, but it is also a great way of making money.

hahaha most people's songs don't have meaning... or messages... pennywise really(though im pretty down with their stuff) bitches about government when the government in US is pretty wicked good. as for underground, it's only underground because nobody's heard of them or because they don't have songs on much music or on the radio. that's not to say they write their shit in a matter of minutes TRYING to get it on the radio. sure they change their style to suit the public, but there are always people, mainstream and udnerground, that do and dont take time and put feeling into songs.
