Me and my friends are going to Alps, but we dont know where. Any help?

Me and my friends descided to go skiing to alps, but we dont know where to go. We dont know anything about the resorts there. Has anyone been there skiing (or possily lives there) and knows good places? We were thinking about going to France, but it doesnt really matter. It should be pretty cheap place, because we are paying for food (and possibly some alcohol) ourselves. All help is appreciated.
 
What time of year are you going? Depends what you're looking for too, more freeride and big mountain?
 
What about party scene?? Go and look something in Austria or France. Swiss will be more expensive
 
well we are thinking about going there december-january and we will be staying for 2 weeks. i think we will be skiing park and some easy big mountain, because we havent skied much big mountain before, but we really would like to.
 
oh and we wont be partying that much because we are only 15 hehe and theres gonna be my friends mom.
 
If your into big mountain you should check out chamonix in france, st anton in austria and engelberg in switzerland. its not worth comin over if your looking to ski park.

you should also check out the massive resorts such as the 3 valleys, espace killy, paradiski and portes de soliel, all in the france switzerland area of the alps.
 
best skiing ive ever experienced :D i was there for a couple months for school, for one semester exchange program. i highly reccomend it.
 
so whats the big mountain there like? does it have park? how are the people? is it very expencive?
 
Hey,im from meribel in the french alpes and the party scene rocks here. The skiing is some of the best snow in the world.
 
im not going there for park, but i will be skiing park probably everyday. and id like to hit some big jumps, because everything is pretty small in finland. max size of jumps is like 30 feet.
 
zermatt is highclass therefore its pretty expensive.. the region around the dachstein glacier is pretty good .. dachsteins park is awesome and there are some big mountain possibilities too
 
Hey, I live in Grenoble, also known as the (french) Alps' capital :) lol

Most of the resorts which have been said before are considered expensive here. If you want a good snowparks, you have Les 2 Alpes, Avoriaz, Tignes, La Plagne, La Clusaz and Les 7 Laux.

The cheapest is Les 7 Laux and it's also a good place for easy (to hard) big mountain. It's not a very big resort but it's great.

I also ski in Les 2 Alpes which is more "newschool", I mean you'll see more freestylers from all over Europe. Great for all skill off-piste.

I haven't ski in Avoriaz but I know it has a great park, so do Tignes, la Clusaz and La Plagne but I think it's a little more expensive.

I think les 2 Alpes should be great for you, but try to get more informations about Avoriaz, Tignes and La Clusaz (Candide's, Loic CP's and Lolo Favre's home resort)

I put Les 2 Alpes over Les 7 Laux because it's more an "international" resort whereas Les 7 Laux is more a local resort.

in europe that doesnt matter dude. people drnik when they are like ten, and in austria the legal age for beer is 16, so if you look anything close to it you wont have a problem. go get shittered buddy.
 
thank you! this is what i was looking for! you have all been very helpful. now i should just look in the internet for hotels and other stuff. still if you know other places go ahead tell me about them. im in no hurry.
 
ahh ive heard that the legal drinking age is 16. i think we will be partying more than skiing :)
 
Actually, you can buy beer if you're 16, but you must be 18 to buy whisky (or any alcohol other than beer).

That's the rules but you can be 15 and look older, you'll have no problem buying alcohol. They only ask for your ID card if you look young.

In pubs/bars, it's a little bit "harder" because if the police find you drinking, the owner may have troubles so... they are watching a little more.

But really don't worry about it, you'll have no problem buying alcohol. And even if you get busted by the police, the only thing they can do is call your parents :)...
 
In december the only place where u will find a decent park is Laax, maybe Avoriaz.

Its pretty bad timing for big mountain skiing, but u got big mountain all over the alps. Best pow will be on the northern edge of the alps, think Avoriaz, Les Diablerets, Engelberg, Laax, Davos, Ischgl, St. Anton, ...

Forget wallis (zermatt, saas-fee) and forget anything more south than Chamomix in france cuz there will be no pow just rocks.
 
michael is kinda right about the snow at this time of year- go late january or early february if you can. however, for all around resorts (i.e. park, powder, terrain, price, atmosphere) your best bets are likely to be avoriaz in france or laax in switzerland. normally i would recommend val d'isere/tignes or zermatt as your whistler-equivalent all around best resorts. however, i know from experience that the parks will not be up until jan at the earliest.

last word: avoriaz or laax- both newschool hotbeds with decent freeride options.
 
One Word Dude VERBIER best resort on the planet best partying best big mountain ok park hot bitches, Expensive though but worth every fukin penny.
 
hey! i'am from grenoble too, where do you live in grenoble?

go to tignes if you want to have snow, because it is one of the highest station and december january is th begening of winter, there not allways snow evrywhere.
 
well i think we'll go later then. i didnt know if there will be any snow then. i though there would be.
 
well go anytime between december and april...i go to france like every year...tignes..la plagne..morzine..avoriaz..flaine..2alpes

If you like park, then you might consider Laax, Switzerland. Orage had a really nice comp there last year and there are a lot of windlips and other natural features, plus good tree skiing. Not as rowdy as Chamonix or Verbier for the serious big-mountain stuff, but plenty of off-piste for powder.

I go to Villars every year (2 weeks with Christmas) and the last couple years we had so much powder!!! Most of the time powder is awesome sometimes even better than february! But yeah u just got to be lucky.
 
Last december Verbier had NO snow and NO park.

We were laughing across the valley from Villars/Diablerets how brown Verbier was while we were riding deep & light freshies. The whole kanton of wallis is just dry and windblown in december.
 
PLEASE READ: In 2007/2008 season my family and I will be living in france for 2 months about! We are looking for a great all around ski resort, I will be skiing just about every single day there. I loove park, I looooove Powder. I want a good all around resort. We were thinking of living in Chamonix!I heard its great for powder but I would also like to ski some park on days that the pow isnt good. Is this a good decision or should I reccomend a place like la clusaz or what? If you can tell me about Chamonix and if you can tell me if theres any other places neear by Chamonix that have agood park thanks every one!
 
if you have any interest in park whatsoever, give chamonix a miss. as i said i believe val d'isere/tignes [espace killy] to be the best area in france. however, its like three hours from cham so my advice would be avoriaz: around 1 hour from cham, superb park, huge area [portes du soleil] and fairly good snow record with decent freeride options.
 
Def. choose the chamonix area if you like powder (haute-savoie), best powder in france. However, like rastafarider stated, if you like park as well, choose Portes du Soleil (Avoriaz).

If you are staying 2 months I would also suggest a connected town like Chatel or Morzine, because in Avoriaz you're stuck on the mountain. Chatel is the coolest town, but Morzine has easier access to other resorts and the highway (Flaine, Chamonix, La Clusaz)...
