Ok, I didn't read anything else on this thread so I don't know if it's been said or not but:

FREEZE doesn't control the ads. That's controlled by Transworld Media.

Quit always saying about selling out and shit, it may be hard to believe but not everyone wants to be a ski bum.

Out of interest, why do you care who owns the magazines that you read? What difference does it make? Some of you are talking about 'selling out'. Selling out what and to who? Is being a part of a larger organization a bad thing because there is a preception of integrety? Or is it a good thing because it gives structural and financial strength to provide you with a better product.

It could go either way. Take Freeze - sure they are a Transworld publication, owned by AOL Time Warner. Transworld has been around for a long long time doing their thing in the core industries - don't give them any shit. Do you think Time Warner is going to give directions on editorial content? Dunno that they care too much.

Intrawest owns a stack of resorts. Is that a bad thing? As far as I have seen in working for them, they put a LOT of money into making the hills better.

So what really is the issue here?

I am glad that Mcdonalds sponsors sports like skiing. Personally, i'm not going to eat there no matter what they do(unless it has something to do with oral sex), but the fact remains they are supporting our sport, and i'm greatful for that.

Just think. . .how many of hit McHeartAttack on the way to the mountain. Or get some on the way aff the mountain for the grive home. Yet we feel it necessary to piss and moan that they have an ad in one of our favorite mags or sponsor an element in the park. WAKE UP.

it's not like McDonalds pays any more for ad space than anybody else. If anything, the fact that Freeze has McDonalds ads says that according to their market research, which a massive company like that does quite a bit of and puts a lot of time into, putting ads in Freeze will reach more of the right people. If freeskiers was doing better, there would be Mickey D's ads in there as well

Personnaly i think skiing is cooler because not alot of people around me do it so it makes me 'special' lol, but if it became leik snowboarding, it would lose that and id be stuck with a bunch of posers

Actually, they ARE putting money into Skiing by advertising in the magazines. You think the $6 you may or may not spend on an issue puts a magazine together, pays staff, editors, photogs, print presses, designers and all the other folks that make a magazine happen? Advertising does that. So if there is money going in to allow a magazine that is a driver at the core of the industry to function, that would be putting money into skiing right?

Or is putting money into skiing in your eyes only when someone puts dollars in your pocket to buy a lift ticket?

So really; they are doing both - putting money into Skiing and into getting you to eat their shit as you put it.

well then need money to make the mag so if you want to pay $50/ subscription then go ahead but i like skicking with my $5.95 subscription leading into $1 an issue
