Actually, they ARE putting money into Skiing by advertising in the magazines. You think the $6 you may or may not spend on an issue puts a magazine together, pays staff, editors, photogs, print presses, designers and all the other folks that make a magazine happen? Advertising does that. So if there is money going in to allow a magazine that is a driver at the core of the industry to function, that would be putting money into skiing right?
Or is putting money into skiing in your eyes only when someone puts dollars in your pocket to buy a lift ticket?
So really; they are doing both - putting money into Skiing and into getting you to eat their shit as you put it.
