Mazda speed 3

Sorry to self quote, but I was at the Mazda dealership today. Spoke with my guy who always gives me the latest inside dope. No Mazdaspeed 6 on the horizon. They are discontinuing the 5 all together and there probably won't be a new Mazdaspeed 3 until 2017. Their execs are idiots.

I just hope they make a mazdaspeed nd miata

Watch for yourself.

If you do alittle bit a research on how a DSG works youll understand.

The point of a manual is no longer that it is faster, it is the feeling, you are more connected with the car, you aren't just mashing on the pedal and beating your buddies car because you don't have to shift. I don't deny that DSGs have their place, but not in a "drivers" car like a gti. And by drivers car I mean a car that can be driven at 100% most of the time.

Meh, I'm an advocate for stick driving but the appeal of a GTi is that it's a hot hatch. (with all it's bloated 1.3 tons of German engineering) It's not a drivers car, it's a sensible daily driver that you can grab by the balls and fling round for a bit of fun, if you want a car that you can drive around at 100% most of the time get a 1996 Fiat Punto 60 SX, less horsepower then a blender but in return you will receive a gearbox that's crunchy but solid and a clutch so tight and responsive you can operate it with your big toe alone.

In the current GTi the DSG makes sense. Hell the Alfa Romeo eyesex greatest driving experience glorious Italian soul and passion 4C has a DCT and it works. If you want a good manual car get something old or spend 50+ grand on a Fiat Abarth 695 Biposto and cream in your pants every single time you merely fondle the 10K optional Bacci Romano dog ring gearbox with exposed linkage.

seeing the mazdaspeed name on a miata would be cool, but mazda has made SO MANY special edition Miatas as it is, i dont really see the need for a "mazdaspeed" version.

I had a chance to get a great deal on a Miata once, but then I thought about commuting from Denver to Vail in the Winter with skis and equipment in said vehicle and thought better of it. Cool looking car, but for my purposes it was about as practical as getting a penis transplant from an elephant.

I really don't like how mazda put the speed 3 out just for the sake of having the most power in a fwd hot hatch, beating gti's, fords, ect.

Having 330 to the front sounds just fucking retarded. Turning it in snow would involve a lot of ebraking and hoping you dont hit boost too hard...

I guess I agree there is a lot of truth in that, but I'm going to go to the classic "america is a bunch of pussies" point. In euroland, you guys have a lot, and I mean a lot, more manual drivers. It is almost safe to say that the manual is almost completely dead in the states. We have been convinced that auto's are a no brainer, a given, the standard in the same way that the manual used to be called a standard if that makes sense. Manuals are archaic, for poor people, to be avoided. People see autos as being faster (by a little bit), more economical, and easier because they really don't care about the drive, its not A to B anymore, it's A and B. I don't really know where I'm going with this anymore but I think I got some ideas down. Maybe I have an overly optimistic view of europe, is the manual slowly being killed off there too?

And a sidenote Omnidata, is the XC70 actually respected and viewed as a cool car in Amsterdam? I personally really like it, but most people who drive it over here are moms, it is a total mom car here.

can confirm that the manual is not being killed off in europe, i was there a few moths ago ad i think i saw 1 automatic car during my whole 3-4 week trip

The XC70 and it's bigger sibling are considered the cars of mostly man who have a good job they had to study hard for, a steady life, 2.2 children who play field hockey and ski in the winter. A lot of doctors drive them.

Amsterdam hates cars, hence the reason I drive those tiny electric smarts instead of my 250 euro Volvo.

In lease-cars the auto is gaining ground, very quickly, now that there's actual good automatic's available, if your day is spend sitting 2 hours in stop & go traffic jams you will go for a big soft Audi without a clutch very quickly or you risk the same physical asymmetry due to constant clutch work as an internet porn addict only now affecting the lower extremity.

Got my WRX last year and have absolutely loved it so far. Picked up two yakima highrollers and my Yakima lopro and couldn't be happier.

Planning on taking it on a big hiking trip through North/South Dakota, Cali, Oregon and Washinton this Summer.

That would be my suggestion but a couple of my friends have 3's and love them too.

I drive an 08.5 mazdaspeed 3. If you're looking to learn about modding cars or just the inner workings of a car, you really can't go wrong. I'm not a gearhead by any means, but have been able to do basic power & transmission mods to get it to run better. Also, the Cobb Accessport makes it super easy to keep your car on an updated tune. Currently running a stage 2 tune for TIP & SRI, HPFP internals, & CBE. The car is a blast to drive when you're aiming for spirited driving experience. So much more raw power than the focus ST and the torque steer is VERY easily manageable and you get used to it. The focus ST has a torque vectoring system to limit torque steer that makes it kind of "zig-zag" down the road. My car has done well in the snow as well, basically just following the model of "don't drive like an idiot." I have every intention of buying the next edition of the speed3 and will be driving these cars for a very long time. I love them. PM me if you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to help or point you in the direction of more resources. To be honest, it's a can't miss between the speed3, WRX, & STI. Despite the fwd drivetrain, the speeed3 holds its own against STIs, EVOS (and dusts the S4) from a roll. Great car and the power will have you hysterically laughing. I had a coworker that used to take his WRX to autoX, and he said his car was a bore to drive after I let him drive mine.

flat out not true. i have never touched the ebrake in my car and when tuned properly, boost application is smooth and predictable. no guessing involved.

can you give a source for the 330? All Ive found says it made 267. 330 seems like a lot...

oh i had no idea they actually made a mazdaspeed miata, thats rad. and yeah i agree, it would be cool if they beefed it up a bit, i dont think theyve ever put more than ~170 hp in it.

anyways theres always the option to swap an LSx in there :D as far as i understand its also pretty easy to put a 13b in.

I have seen a mazdaspeed miata in person, the thing is fucking dope. I would love to drive one, it would be an absolute blast. for some reason, MPS likes the pantshitting thrill of driving small cars with TOO much power.

as for the 330hp stat: with a few basic power mods and a OTS tune thru a Cobb AP/Dashhawk, a speed3 can easily push out 300+. The stock TIP & air box are incredibly restrictive, and new HPFP internals allow you to swap the DP & CBE, or go full turboback exhaust without smoking the turbo (hopefully). stock tune limits boost in 1st & 2nd (& possibly 3rd) to mitigate torque steer, but any tune reverses that. 300+ hp speed3s might be more common than stock 267hp speed3s.

for around 5 grand ( will be more for the 90-93 because you need to swap in a newer rearend to handle the power) you can easily turbo any first or second gen to past 200 as well, that's the long term goal for mine
