Mazda Miata

Alright lets put things into perspective. $1,500. 60,000 miles, 5 speed manual. Now I dare you to go out and buy a car in mint condition as if its right out of the dealership, has a soft top convertible for when it gets warmer out and also comes with a hard top for the colder months of the year. I then ask you to be able to autocross that car and see how well it does, chances are for $1,500 it will feel like shit, handle like shit, and look like shit. Lets also look at my budget, and most of you very well know that when you're a teen your not going out to buy a brand new Porsche unless your parents are willing to buy a car that you can't handle. It's my first car and I'm sure any of you would be happy with anything for your first car.
 
i could get a honda civic that will out handle one of them all day, and convertables are gay too! buy it then sell it and make some cash off it
 
I have. They're nice cars too. That doesn't change the fact that they're stereotypically classified as a "chick car".
OP is getting a hell of a deal...especially for a first car. Better not crash it....
 
Convertibles are sick on those hot sticky days. I'll be driving it for about two years and see whether I'll upgrade or keep it, either way I'm happy. The hard tops alone go from $700-$1000 so I will definitely profit if I sell it which is good to know.
 
When you said you'd driven one, were you sat on your dad's lap?

There is not a chance in hell of a FWD hatch with McPh struts and probably a torsion rear axle outhandling a '5.

My friend's Meganne R26.R has my car through the bends, but only by a little, and that is THE fastest FWD production car on track
 
they aren't much more expensive than the bimmers or the benz that you see everyday. not any more expensive than a Zo6 or a range. I would drive that thing every where.

the only 2 hondas i would ever consider fast from the factory are teh s2k, and a nsx, mazda speeds 3/6/miata are rockets and considered some of the best cars in their class.

now shut the fuck up, this isnt a thread about how honda is better for your fudgepackin self, but about how this dudes gettin a legit miata for his first car for a banger price. now go away for good.
 
and the rsx, not to mention the new si's are decent any ways ,u pay wat 20 g for a mazda brand new, put that into a honda, it will it eat alive, ok i dnt just like hondas u fuck, and ya dude is getting a good deal, but id rather have somthing else, and for the record mazdas arnt rockets a stock evo will walk the all day long or an sti so take ur rocket dildo and shove it up ur ass haha
 
Miatas are slow as balls in a straight-line, but they shine in autocross where having gobs of power don't really make much of a difference.

Just remember that it is NOT a "fast" car in a straight line and be careful in it on public roads.

Get to an autocross through your local SCCA chapter and learn to drive, and have a blast killing cones.
 
true, although the rsx=si, and yes an evo will walk one, but if you took the balls out of your eyes, youd see i said they will beat anything in their CLASS. an awd sedan=/= fwd hatch. and id say a turbo 263hp is pretty fucking quick.

and of course you can take teh 20k and put it into a shitty shell, but for the price new ms3 vs new si, ill take the ms3 with its turbo. not to diss teh si, its a sick car, any stock car with a lsd is pretty sick imo, and its pretty quick too.
 
yea, but teh ones that are built correctly, and arent shabby as shit, i got mad respect for. its hard as fuck to buuild a fast honda/acura and get respect when your whole community is pretty much rice.
 
First, in the UK Miata's are called MX-5s, hence me calling them '5s, just to clear it up.

Right, so that '5 would be around 300bhp in road trim, 350 in race. I've no idea about the power of the civic, lets call it 500bhp, it makes no odds.

On a proper racetrack, ie: for touring cars, not a high speed track for F1/Indy/Muscle cars, I can almost guarantee the Miata will get round the track faster and the driver will have a bigger smile on his face than the guy in the civic. The amount of grip these cars have is incomprehensible unless you ave driven one in anger.

Even on the road, the '5 is a silly amount more fun than ANY FWD car I have driven.

There is something about driving a RWD car designed to be an all out sportscar that is so better than driving a hatch with a big engine that was designed to drive your mother to her friend's house.

could go on.... So don't start telling me I can't drive or don' know

Makes sense they changed the name, I *think* it's only the mk3s, which aren't proper '5s anyway, they had to raise them 30mm to meed crash regs and fucked up the handling!
 
fucking right man. not to mention the 24k speed 3 and the 32k sti or evo are in totally different price ranges. from a roll a speed 3 with intake and exhaust will walk an sti or evo, i've seen it done multiple times. but that's getting off topic of the thread.

the miatas are sick in autocross and handle amazing, if you seriously put down some money and make this car fast it'll be amazing. then you can shut up the faggots saying it's a girls car.
 
You don't need to spend much money, a simple geometry alignment by a proper garage is enough to transform '5s into incredible cars. A totally standard '5s will blow away almost everything you will come across down a decent road, one with corners that is.
 
Ookok...I've seen one or two nicely built hondas, but there are SO MANY ricers around here because stupid trashy kids buy a civic or prelude, throw a fart can and $5 body kit on and think they can floor it everywhere.

So I guess I don't want to hate on nicely (and well) built cars (and Hondas), they're just kinda not the norm up here.
 
1.5K? 60K miles? pretty mint condition? but it. Regardless of if it's a girls car or not. It's known for being a fun little car. Beat the crap out of it and learn to drive until you can buy a decent car.
Unless you're really planning on keeping it for more than a year and upgrade it, or taking it to a ski hill alot. Then you probably should look into something else.

First of all how is it even possible to beat the shit out of a car in a year? haha I'm set on buying it no matter what people say. I'll be making upgrades to improve handling like suspension, brakes, and most likely another set of wheels with winter tires. Then I'll do some minor mods like cold air intake, a catback exhaust, and a ecu chip.
