Mazda Miata

Getting one for my first car from my Dad's friend. Silver 93' miata with 60,000 miles, 5 speed stick, soft and hard top for $1,500. Anyone have one? I know they're shit in snow but I'm in Jersey and I'm not really worried. I'm guessing for my first car its a great deal since its in pristine condition(owners a car enthusiast and needs to get rid of it) Feedback would be sweet.

thats a good deal for that car, you will get made fun of a lot for it probably...just dont act like youre the shit in it or you will look like a huge tool.
my dad has one and hes one of those guys who revs it to 5k rpms every single time he accelerates and makes himself look like a douche.

i loled, when i opened up NSG it had the top thread saying "mazda miata" and the next one said "We are douchbags"

Well the good thing is I'm only spending $1,500 so that I have some extra cash for simple mods. cold air intake, exhaust, flush lights, and tints($75 for door windows, rear window, and sun strip. i never thought it would be so cheap) and it shouldn't be as bad. Definitely not one of those guys out there to be a douche just to have fun with it.

yeah thats fine, as long as you understand one thing: miatas are chick cars, 100% and there is no arguing it.
as long as you understand that and are ok with it you will be fine. i feel like almost all miata drivers didnt get the memo about that.

which body type is it? and yea with the lights flush it is a huge improvement on the normal eyelashes that you see on the front of those things

i hope you're not tall. im 5'11 and whenever i had to drive my boss's miata i couldnt fit in the damn thing. he got a dwi and i spent 6mos driving his ass around when his wife didnt feel like it. fun ass car to drive though.

props. you now own one of THE most fun cars EVER. just get a good pair of winter tires and you'll be fine. it would also be good to try to get out to any track days or autoX to feel out the car a little bit better. Also, a few tasteful mods will really bring it to the next level.
Just make sure you never sit in an s2k though. you'll lust for one so badly haha

Hahaha its funny you say that because I'm actually getting into autocross. I'm psyched on getting it. Do you know of any forums which I can check out?

not really true, huge amount of after market support, one of the most popular cars for amateur racing, can be made fucking fast for cheap

i agree with everything you said except for the not really true part.
i drive a ford taurus and i know its a grandma car even though they used to run them in nascar.....
they totally are chick cars and you are just reinforcing what i said earlier about dudes missing the memo.
for the record, i like miatas. they are super fun cars.

hahaha ur so right ford taurus is so grama. i spent 1000 on a sab 900 cs and i was the shit. wanst a tool and wasnt a old person. just the shit. get a cheap sab

Thank you! I was going down the responses and seeing "chick car" and all that stuff, people don't realize that Miata's are one of the BEST autocross cars out there. New tires, brake upgrade and suspension and that thing will murder autoX. I would wait and do the engine mods last if that's what you are getting into, brakes, tires, suspension, weight then engine mods (tires and brakes can be exchanged). You are about to enjoy your first car a lot more than most, and to anyone who talks shit, tell em you will meet em on the track, that car slays.

its saab, and a saab is much different from a miata, ive owned 2 saabs, a 9kcs and a 9-3, both sick cars still driving my 9-3 now.

op miatas are sick, pretty girly when stock, but a few mods like headers, exhaust, ect... and you can make 120-140whp i believe if you do want to do headers, a guy on my saab board recently bought a miata and got these for 117 shipped, and a gain of 8 to 12 whp is possible

he was very impressed at how nice they were for the money

did you have a big ol' bowl of conservative douche-bag for breakfast this morning?what do you drive son?

Because of my size, I would never own a Miata, be uncomfortable to drive one I think.

And don't generalize conservatives. It is getting stupid and boring.

or a raised f-150! haha
but seriously.
and Panda. That's fine if you wouldn't drive one because of your size. I wouldn't expect a panda to fit inside a small two-seated roadster either. It's an issue of practicality.
The moron I quoted obviously can't speculate beyond the beaten cultural stereotype of the miata. His reasoning is homophobic, and based off of grounds that were put into place by other narrow-minded ___s before him. I'm not generalizing conservatives (heck, my parents are conservative) in a political sense, but rather his conservative state of mind.

haha yes!

and whatever anyone says, miatas are awesome cars. You just have to de-girly-tize them. Which is very easy.

I would drive an RX7, Corvette, or my uncle's Skyline GTR in a heartbeat.

I do own a 1984 Bronco that has a very VERY slight lift on it.

Well, compared to a miata, a vette or gtr (talking r35 here?) are absolute boats!
I'd be wary about the rx though. It's MARGINALLY bigger than a miata. You might need to wait until the dry season and its less abundant bamboo sources *lose some damn weight!*
but who are you trying to fool! Can a panda properly articulate a clutch pedal? Can it perform seamless heel-toes or be able to grab a shift knob with those big awkward paws?
maybe stick with an auto bronco!

My cousin owns and RX7 that looks like the one in Tokyo Drift that gets blown up. I have ridden with him, wasnt super comfortable, but still... car is fast as shit.

And yes, the R35. Uncle uses the damn thing as a daily driver.

I'm getting a 2000 BMW 328i superb condition, 115K miles, but still runs like the day it was bought. Getting it from my mom's friend for $1,000

word. an r35 would actually make a really good DD.
awd, tank-like, and relatively cushy (as far as that kind of car goes).

I've had two, and had one on track a lot.

They are the best handling car at this pricepoint, no exceptions. Once the geometry (tracking/camber/caster) is dialled in, they are the best fun car I have ever driven. That's comparing it to my full spec vw race car, porsches, a load of fast FWD hatchbacks etc.

You won't regret it!!

^^Not mine...

miatas are not chick cars at all... for those who say that have obviously never sat behind the wheel of one, or a modded one. im still trying to decide between a miata, e30 convertible, salvage s2k, and if i can find one in good condition a ae86 so i can have a DD with good gas mileage (s2k is out of the picture for that) and that i can mod for auto-x days and circuit racing (open track events) but i really want a convertible so the e30 and miata are looking like my best options.

OP i would highly recommend putting in a roll bar of some sort right off the bat, and upgrade the sway bars. worry about exhaust and intake later, focus on the suspension first and learn how to drive the car properly before getting into any kind of power mods. i would do brakes too. after all, you dont need too much power to take turns fast ;)

I will learn to articulate a clutch with my panda feet if it was for this car. Instead of the Stars and Bars on the top, it would be the Japanese Rising Sun Flag:

yeah my brother bought that same car so he could be the shit, hes put about 4 gs of work into it and it still breaks down constantly, saabs are piles of shit that always break and are expensive to fix.
