MATT WALKER TO HEAD SKIS

Just saw something about Matt Walker switching to Head Skis..... two of salomons best skiers are now skiing with different companies. Although I havent see walker in any recent films, he still shreds like a maniac and I'm surprised salomon would let a skier like that go

Just like how Nick went on to join Icelantic. Solomon goofed by dumping the majority of their team and thus leaving ONLY Noah Bowman, AJ Kemppainen, Vincent Gagnier, Woodsy, and Bobby Brown on their park team (this is only from the Salomon freeski website). They basically dumped off people like Herman, Turski, B-Paul, Dumont, etc. within the past few years. Not only that, but they've been focusing more on big mountain/backcountry gear than on their park and pipe skis, which have been getting crappier after 2011.

Also, they've kept people like Mike Douglas, Cody Townsend, Henrik Windstedt, and others so they can make more and more powder skis. Although, I've had a good experience with Salomon's bindings and boots tho, but have been lacking bindings that have lacked a release system like the release system on the FKS's and the Look Pivot's. Also, Salomon decided to make a comeback to racing within the past winter or two.

It seems to me that Salomon wants only people that can huck the biggest tricks and do future spinz.

TL;DR: Screw you, read it, you lazy bum.

they definitely have gone down hill in the park category over the past few years, in terms of good skis and riders. i can't really comment on the big mountain aspect of their country as i don't really pay attention to that stuff

their transitioning to the other side being bigmountian and touring( which i think is extremely good from a company that big) and the few athletes these still have on their park team are there for a reason, they all compete in major events(Olympics coming up) and are not just a money sink for them.

I think part of the reason is Salomon's feestyle skis are lacking compared to many companies out there. Athletes find other companies to offer a better option in the park and pipe realm.

You can say that again!

But seriously I think it's a shame as their team used to be sick.

Eventhough they are moving away from park it sounds like the SPK next year is gonna be really good.

unless they are introducing the custom shell technology to it i cant really see how it is going to be any different. Its a fucking horrendously shaped boot in my opinion, 104mm last and possibly the shallowest fitting Salomon boot out there.

salomon's park team is dropping for a reason. the development they're making in backcountry is huge. I personally think they are making a good business decision. in the past 2 seasons alone the number of people i have seen wanting to move towards "earning their turns" has been huge. Maybe it's because i the shop i work in has a slightly older target marker compared to other areas in the country but the number of people we get in asking for park oreinted products compared to backcountry/touring is fractional.

Apparently that is what they are doing.

Just seen on facebook a post from Salomon of a video of a 17 year old brit. I find it interesting they are giving a lot of air time to brits and getting rid of their original riders.

This is Matt Walker.

This is absolute fact, without paying these dudes money they would actually be unable to press a ski with a waist bigger than 87mm. It's science.

It's the same in racing. People such as Lydsay Vonn, Ted Ligety and Julia Mancuso all left brands such a s: rossignol salomon etc. It's probably due to Head being such a massive company that they can afford larger salaries for their athletes than their competitors.
