Well search biglines.com for the north american record. Canadian hucker this year hit 200+ feet at whitewater. Ymir wall if I remember correctly.

skiing monkey style all day in the park and not having the ability or balls to go off trail is GAY! Try spinning off a cornice or nailing some sicko strgt line over avy debris at 70mph...oh you cant??? learn to ski and stfu

you realize i wasn't the one who called jumping cliffs stupid don't you??

jumping 200 foot cliffs is not necessarily about ability. if you are skiing a line into it, that is one thing. But what Jamie Pierre does is not so much impressive as fucking stupid.

Big mountain is the shit, but reaching terminal velocity while falling off of a 200 foot rock face is not about skill or balls: it's worthless.

I beg to differ, I find it entertaining. I also believe it's a pro film skiers job to entertain me, so.... And besides watching someone like pierre jump 150 foot cliffs gives me the confidence that I won't die when I'm dropping big cliffs

We pay our debt sometimes.

aww, that's great that he inspires you. Sadly he will probably die really soon if he keeps doing this shit. Not to say that I hope anything bad happens to the guy, but you can only do so many acts of idiocy. The guy landed right on a rock off that HUGE cliff with no inrun in Soul Purpose. Pretty soon he's going to run out of miracles no matter how absolute his "faith in the Lord" is.

yup...did not mean to insult you or your moniker

btw the new viscous rips...lucky enough to have a demo pair in my garage

nah...i'll be taking the demo binders off on dec 15 when the on snow shows are over next season and they become my personal destroyers...i'm sure you can find a shop that would be more than happy to sell them to you....they rip though! A little wider, a little stiffer, a little less shape...and a they have a zipper

hey downey, you should try some backcountry and jib off the jobs. that would be so sick. you are my favorite and u go to bates

New Skis:$400

i agree with liam...its not so much skill as balls. anyone can drop the cliff just not be lucky like him or as skilled as him at landing just right or something. if you have balls you can drop the cliff. but ksiing a line into takes skill

It does take skill to drop huge cliffs and keep your composure in the air and land on your feet. Have you ever jumped off a big bridge? Once you get going that fast, it's hard not not to flail and tilt. If ldowney thinks Jamie Pierre is irrelevant, he should watch one of his own video parts. He does the same thing with rail-steeze that Jaime does with air--i.e. takes it too far instead of progressing elsewhere.

jamie pierre knows his shit, although he may be a huge asshole, he checks his landing and scopes his drops for quite some time befor ethe huck

and he doesnt reach terminal velocity on a 200 ft cliff drop

i would really really like to see you drop a 150+ ft cliff, LAND ON A ROCK, and not profess your utter devotion to some type of god

if carrots got you drunk rabbits would be fucked up

If your driving your car 130mph and start getting nervous thats not because you lack the skill to drive your car 130 mph, all you have to do is push the gas pedal. Its because you dont have the balls to go that fast that you get nervous.

And at the game time if your dropping a 130 foot cliff and don't get nervous its just because you have balls, not necessarily because you have alot of skill. Noone is dropping 150 foot cliffs without enourmous testicles.

And with respect to the tech rail stuff. It flatout takes skill and balance to be able to do the stuff most pros, including downey can do on rails. I don't doubt that anyone can do it but you have to develop the skills to do so. And the progression in rails is far more diverse than the progression in cliff dropping. Rails you have so many options of what to do next, whereas with the piere style cliff dropping the only progression is to go bigger.

That said when piere decides to jump a parking garage, i do ejaculate in my pants.

You guys are all such park rat faggots. Seriously do you have any idea what doing a cliff like that would be like? I've dropped like 40 feet and the hang time on that is crazy... it's so hard to stay balanced in the air unless you take alot of speed into it... and you can't really do that off a 100+ cliff now can you? Seriously it takes massive balls but almost as much skill. I would love to see any of you guys stand at the top of a 20 footer and just look over the edge... it's along way to fall compared to the 2 feet you can fall on a rail.

quoting Flynn:

And the progression in rails is far more diverse than the progression in cliff dropping.

If your talking about presses, one-footers (controversial subject on NS) or buttering and spinning on to rails, I agree. That's progression . . . vertical distance to impact isn't. But what ldowney does on rails in his forward segment isn't any of those things. He does the same thing Jaime Pierre does . . . he pushes it in one dimension only. Jaime Pierre does air, ldowney does style. That's why I thought it was ironic that ldowney was calling jaime pierre's skill irrelevant.

I didn't say rails are beter than cliffs, im saying the way you progress on rails is farrrr more diverse than the way you drop cliffs that big. And im not doubting that dropping a 140 foot cliff is harder than dropping a 40 foot cliff. Its just the way you progress to doing the 140 foot cliff that flatout requires more balls than skill. Someone like pollard probably could drop a cliff aswell as piere if he tried something that big, but there is just not a very good reason to drop something that big other than to prove your manliness, and the progress to your own death. There is a point where the skill stays the same and it just becomes flatout ridiculous.

the REAL difference between chucking yourself off of a 15-footer (which is actually quite big, your gonna drop about 30 vert if u have any speed) and dropping a monster is CONDITIONING!!

Skiers like Seth, work out and condition their bodies to be able to take the repeated impacts their filming schedules require...

anyone can fall off of a cliff, try doing it every day

dude adrian, i gotta disagree with ya there bud. ur good at what u do, others are good at cliffs, dont take away their shit

rail slides are easy...hell you learn the basics as a kid when they etach you to side slip....

rail slides are easy...they are a consistent medium...ie, a rail does not change, you can practice over and over again...big techy cliff drops are a once in a while oppurtunity that requires planning, luck, snow conditions and skill...

try showing up to squaw on some random day to go huck adrenaline rock (about 70-feet)...it can only be done a few times a year (on a good season)...its takes years to become a great big mountain skier...it takes days to learn a new rail trick

Piere doesn't ski varrying conditions at the level of true big mountain skiiers, he doesn't drop varrying conditions on his bigger drops at all. Which is one of the few smart things he does.

I'm personaly a fan of Piere, not for his big mountain skiing ability, but for the attitude he brings to the sport. one of his quotes i remember was something like "you just gotta sack up and do it, anyone can, im not special".

You're missing the point entirely and I think that big mountain cliff drops are sick as hell. I'm talking about 200 foot cliffs with flat landings that you don't even ski into. In my opinion, that shit is stupid. It takes no ability whatsoever to stand still on the top of a cliff, jump off it, get cockeyed in the air, and land on your side. You can only survive so many of those, and I don't want to see someone die in order to set some record that proves nothing more than their stupidity.

^^I'll give you that! Good point...personally I laugh at these jackoff weekend "skiers" that come up to Tahoe after a storm and double eject off of every cliff they can find...and after every big dump...some a-hole hits a rock or gets buried.

as far as the huge shit goes....only media hungry idiots need to huck 180 footers...i remember years ago some jackass showed up at a warren miller shoot and killed himself off of a 150 footer...

But then again Plake showed up univited to a scott schmti/coombs photo shoot at squaw and aired the entire chimney... partially responsible for launching his video career

What people should focus on is the smaller cliffs with newschool progreession...its sick to watch kids trying cab 5s off of 5-10 footers, or CR spiinning off of everything...

it may not take any skill but its cool to watch. I wouldnt want to watch an entire movie of insane cliff drops, or parachuting, but I like seeing one or two.

I know what ya mean its all about the landing though keeping your feet under you isnt that hard but haveing the perfect form when you land and doing everything right is where its at. I fucked up both of my shoulders dropping a 30ft cliff cause I was on ar5s and I sunk into the pow too much and my arms were ripped back. the hang time is nuts though like 2 sec for a 40ft cliff but It feels like youll never get there and you get closer to the ground and you think ohhh shit this is bigger then I thought and im goin wayyyyy too fast those were my thought when dropping a 50ft cliff into sand (no skis just jumping into sand) I ended up compressing my spinal chord and was 3 inches shorter for that day and in extreme pain
