Math in High School

Ummm D-loc, are you saying you no longer need Math to do the rest of your Engineering, or just that you no longer have any Calculus/Math courses? I dont know about the States and this Calc 3 stuff, but up here if you are in Engineering you do a calc course every semester for your first 3 semesters.

I hate math! I'm and pre-calc and im pretty sure im failing. I understand the homework and stuff and get all A's on that, but then when i take tests i get an F. I've gotten either a D or F on every single test and quiz in that class. I dont understand why..i study really hard for the tests, i do my homework and i pay attention in the class. I want to drop the class because its gonna bring down my gpa a ton...it sucks!

 
I love math because I am actually good at it. Geometry was definetly my favorite class ever. I mean everybody has to love geometry. it is just so easy and it all makes sense. there is no abstract thinking involved

yea math in high school has FUCKED ME OVER!!! geometry feshmen year, didn't learn anything caus emy teacher couldn't tecah, so failed that class, went into algebra concept, had an a all year didn't learn shit, easy as fuck, worthless class. went into algrebra 2 last year, failed all year same worthless teacher as freshmen year, was put in integrated trig and alg. but wavered into pre calc instead, now i have a d= because we are doing stuff i should have learned in my last 3 years of high school but i didn't and my teacher again this year can't teach , so here i am going to a private math tutor once to twice a week for sat prep and pre calc help, where all she does is re teach me everything that i should have learned in pre calc, but didn't. wow shes great i love having a college professor as a tutor saying wow your math departments worthless

You U.S. people get to take all seperate courses and shit, like, you can take trig, algebra, conics, whatever. Here in my small school in Canada you get Essentials of Math (Dumb Math), Applications of Math (Mid-range) and Principals of Math (academic). I'm in PMA12 and it's such a bitch, probably 1/2 the class is already failing and it's because B.C. jams so much shit into it that everything throughout the year is rushed to shit.

We'll start learning a new unit a week before our test so by the time our test rolls around our minds are full of the new stuff.

Not to mention this is the only thing that makes the 4-day school week shitty. Rather than getting 6 math classes over the week we only get 5 so we will start a whole new thing on the second part of a double block.

Also, the teachers here think math is a big competition, seriously, everything is 'preparing us for the provincial exam'. Last year I got 50% in math and the provincial was so bloody easy it brought my final mark up 7%. That means I got like 80% on the final.

My friends are really smart, straight As kinda thing, 'Principals List', but when it comes to math, they're just as screwed as I am.

Oh, and I already know I can get into Univ with my courses, cause all I need is a 64% average in all classes (I have like 80% avg), and having French 11 and Principals of Math 11 can get me into BCIT if I wanna go there.

The thing that blows tho is that if I fail math this semester I'll have to drop Bio12 next and that was what I was thinking of doing with my life.

sim... yeah im done taking math... my computer engineering degree only requires to calc II... u can take an advanced technical calc class after that but thats all their is.

im a math genious, its just my subject so im good

my degree is not like normal peoples, i knew what i wanted to do from the start and at my college you dont even pick your classes. the 5 year degree plan & co-op are already layed out.

i have a degree plan that shows every class for every quarer of the 5 years. i dont choose any classes except maybe 1 a quarter and that is even rare. i only pick social sciencies and humanities. the degree im in is mapped out for you so u cant take wrong classes or classes not needed.

ive taken 4 quarters of english and 3 quarters of math. i tested high on my entry exam so i was boosted in the math i began. ive completed calc I and II and thats all i need.
