Right, and next is newschool skiing in the Olympics, and skiing will turn into nothing more than unimaginable hype for the media, just like snowboarding has. I don't think that newschool skiing should be anywhere near SI- sure, it's exposure, but it doesn't need that type of exposure.

dawg, you cant stop 'newschool skiing from becoming more popular, that harder you try to keep something underground then the harder the media will try to pursue it. you just cant be popular and underground, doesnt work that way. You want more kids to start skiing, this is how.

If anything you can blame MSP for making such good movies! damn you MSP, stop promoting all the great aspects of our sport, damn you!

 
you have to realize this....whatever you think about MSP, there is reason for why SI said the best ski flick makers...who has been around for longer? when SI says the 'best' they mean one thing. Who has made more money? MSP has easily. Nothing at all against PBP, but MSP has been way more successful over the years....so stop being dumb and support all the ski film companies, they all make sick movies...give em props

I don't think that newschool skiing needs to be mainstream at all- look at the reason there is newschool skiing: a bunch of mogul skiers fed up with the industry decided to do their own thing. This created something different from the skiing that WAS being covered in prominent sports publications. Now look at what's beginning to happen with newschool skiing- showing up in SI. Newschool is about just doing shit and not caring what the 'rules' are. If newschool ends up getting all this unnecessary hype, and heads to the Olympics, then regulations will be set in place, and the whole purpose will be defeated. Just my thoughts...

who cares, nothing YOU can do will change it. It's going to happen sooner or later....probably more sooner than later. And what's up with people wanting to be underground? is cool or something now? mistaT, you obviously have no fucking idea what you're talking about...in no way did I say that anything mainstream is BAD- my point was that Newschool was intended to break away from the traditional aspects of skiing (moguls, racing, etc) that are covered consistently in magazines like SI. Therefore, in order for newschool to stay 'core', it doesn't need recognition in SI- there are plenty of other publications to take care of covering newschool (Freeskier, Axis, Freeze)- so leave it to those guys. Try and understand what I'm saying before shooting your mouth off.
