MatchSTick=Downright Dirty...a little long, but READ!

first off Daniel...your a fag! "kudos to steve"? what, for being an asshole? he needs to get that big buisness attirude the fuck out of skiing.

And to SammyC we will see if he has the same oppion when he is an established professional and not just a kid that got his dick sucked by steve and murry for a year. i would be pretty stoked as well if i was 16 years old and got someone to pay for me to travel the world...it really wouldn't matter who the assholes where, you would just be stoked to be in that position in life. only time will tell when the little guy wants to be part of something creative and will make a difference in the sport he loves. who knows...everyone loves money! and to all thoses...suck it fags! go make a difference!

tellafriendbiach

Well there's a reason the small companies can't do that much. They don't get enough support. They need support. The way to get support is to be supported. If we support them they will be able to do more. They need support, so we can help by giving support. I hope I made this clear enough for you.

Having been one who has went online for a fairly reputable source and talking shit on MSP... i have to rescind, on my own will, that certain review of "just a trailer."

Why? Because I actually paid for a Warren Miller ticket last year. For the Boulder premier. If you don't know, Boulder is filled with action sport brobrahs but a lot more poser yuppies. The Warren Miller show made me a sad panda. All these schmucks who think they're core just because they buy a season pass. All of these fools were hooting and hollering at pure SHIT! Like Abma skiing 25 degree AK lines. Come on.

MSP is gunning for this demographic. As much as we bitch about MSP's style, the level of skiing showcased is sick (see: Pollard nose butter in pow.)

As much as we bitch about MSP's business tactics, does anyone know who Warren Miller Entertainment is owned by?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Time Warner. the same pencil pushers who shut down Freeze and one of the largest media conglomerates in the world. I know someone who interned for Warren Miller last year and he said that everybody in production knew that Deep Impact sucked and was nothing but a two hour ad for Jeep.

To beat this kind of crap, the only way to win is to play sacked-up business hardball. On the other hand, it hurts to see friends playing with significantly smaller (or nonexistent) budgets. MSP though, is bringing their movies to a much larger audience, namely because they've got an extensive touring schedule.

I felt shitty when Winter wanted my head. The man has been through so much to get to this point. Global Warming lit me up and got me really pumped on skiing after a disappointing and not fun attempt at ski racing. Mr. Winter and the rest of MSP, if you see this, I hope you accept the deepest, most sincere apologies you can grant for my shit talking. PLEASE, give em hell.

The problem here is that MSP knows that skiers being skiers, we will buy any ski movie that features the pro's we admire. Push will be bought by skiers, because for many, they would rather pay $30 and see some sick shots than stand for something and not see pro's doing rediculous shit.

So, how can skiers see the movie (lets face it, we all want to regaurdless of MSP's reputation) and boycott it at the same time? Its almost like someone needs to get a copy of it and distibute it, so everyone can see the movie without giving MSP money...

On a unrelated topic, does anyone know how to use Torrents? = )

"Kudos to steve" for making a good business move, just like levinthal with line. Skiing is a big business, and if you fail to realize that your opinion is useless.

No shit everyone loves money, it allows them to follow their dreams, wether it be skiing, travelling, or even filming and releasing their own ski movie. If you were given the oppurtunity to ski and travel all year filming for msp, would you do it? The answer is yes, obviously.

Jon Olsson is a jeans model, what would he need with a ski contract? I've seen the JL billboard, it was right by my house... i know the deal.

why cant we just leave it that MSP i sslipping in creativity? also, i assume in some way, they feel a need to hold onto repeat customers by maintaining their "style"... which im sure could be done in another way than just repeating the same movie over and over... but hey... Plehous isnt really any different.... style-wise anyway.

ok, so you quoted this...

"What the fuck don't you get?!?! Matchstick is directly responsible for holding back the SKI FILM INDUSTRY, on several occasions, by using dirty dirty tactics......"

"Matchstick is directly responsible for holding back the SKI FILM INDUSTRY..." is what I fucking said, I didn't say they are holding back skiing.

Stop for 5 minutes before you run your mouth, take some fucking ritalin, and finish reading what you started before you say anything, because you obviously didn't even read what i said.

I don't really see how I was running my mouth. I read what you said, and my post was in response to all the people saying how MSP is ruining "skiing". Yours was about the movie industry, and as you can see in my post I agree with you.

...And fuck that shit...skiing is a big business, but I will never support anyone who does what MSP does.

PoorBoyz is big budget company, and what do they do? They bring small companies under their wing, help them with sponsors and distribution, and help them to grow. MSP on the other hand is too fucking aware of their own shittiness and their first instinct when they see talent is to do whatever fag moves they can to squash them out of business.

They should focus their efforts on being creative and innovative to stay competitive, not coercive bullshit.

I was also referring to that.

You shouldn't be the one telling me to stop running my mouth, as that's all you've been doing.

"fuck them, don't buy their movies"

"buy anything but MSP!"

"MSP is afraid, they are scared talentless little girls"

"Don't buy MSP, Don't let your friends buy MSP. Its just the right thing to do."

I say Nay to you. Levinthal made his move so that he could make his company better and make a better product. Meanwhile, Winter was making his move to make TBC worse. Instead of getting better himself he just makes everyone else worse. I'm so glad Seth left them, like seriously he's the fucking man

So are you saying eliminating the competition was a BAD business move? I'm not giving him kudos for ethics or morals, cause it obviously was a douchebag of a move, but thats just the way some things work.

Ban11, stop being a jerk. You're not helping our argument by insulting people.

Supporting what MSP did because it's business should be considered carefully. So what if it's all about business. If they want to make more money, they should work to make their movies better (make them different). MSP just wants to destroy their competition, instead of actually using that competition to make their movies better and make more money. MSP is preventing smaller companies from operating and growing. If these companies could grow to their full potential, don't you think that they could capture the specific demographic that supports warren miller films and msp films. Think about what it would do for the sport if mainstream people saw something new, fresh, creative, something they never imagined that they would see before(Im not talking about one trick here, like a switch double back. I am talking about the movie as a whole, delivering an all around impression from the film, making non skiers want to start skiing).

So, to MSP, please change your business practices. Yall used to have great movies, like ski movie 3. It is still one of my favorites. Since then, I have yet to see a film surpass it, even with skiing progressing. Your movies appeal to that warren miller crowd, if you deliver a creative, great movie, you can create a great impression on all of them. I may hate the way your company acts, and if it continues, you will lose all support from the real skiers. Once that is gone, you will lose it from everyone else. I may have gone too far in some of the things I've said about MSP, and that wasn't good of me, but look at the way you run your business, caring more about money more than what is good for the sport and others around you. Maybe if you changed the way yall run your business and show support the the ski film industry and not just yourselves, and you make your movies better, I might start buying them again.

So people be careful of who you support.

Also, whoever said plehouse's films are the same hasn't seen them. Each one is different and creative. I cant believe anyone can say that.

I dont think he's saying it was a bad business move. More like a bad move in general? correct me if Im wrong.

MSP is gonna lose their support in the long run if this continues so, it's their funeral.

^ I can refute your whole reply in just a few simple words. That is how MSP want's to conduct and succeed in their business, it's their choice. It's not illegal and not the end of the world.

I would say under most circumstances yes, but with MSP it is different. It's already been stated that MSP's main demographic isn't us (newschoolers) who live and breathe skiing, but rather the weekend warriors or even the avid skiers that aren't a part of ns

They don't have to worry about people not buying their product because of their poor business ethics, because most people don't even know about them.

it really seemed like it was retort to what i said; now that i thought about it it could have gone either way...sorry substance, i apologize

A: looks like HH should make goggles. thats a huge factor when it comes to what they are wearing. come on. he probably added all oakley goggles in, not just outerwear. what a cheeseball.

B: alright now thats over with. I think MSP is a company representing the ski industry. last time i checked, that was a good thing. more money into it=more comps and more exposure (if thats what this is about and viewed as a positive thing). I do not personally know Steve Winter, so im not going to call him a "fag" or whatever else is being thrown around. I do feel that if this is true, then it just shows that he is a businessman and, like in MOST other markets, is doing what businessmen do. Since he isnt a former pro, gangster, stoner...whatever makes berman and other businessmen our "allies", while making Winter and people at Salomon and Fischer "fags", it seems like alot of this is just people jumping on the same "core" bandwagon that dominates this independent website.

exploiting and even "picking on the smaller guys" isnt anything new. stop acting shocked. its the business world. we cant change it through talk. we need action. go out and show that you dont like the MSP films by not buying them. if you dont like it, dont buy it. if you really feel MSP's stuff has problems...TELL SOMEONE! send an email talking about what you would like to see and what you think needs to change, just dont start it with "FUCK WINTER YOU TOOL ASSCOCKFAG!". maybe talk to your shops about carrying some level 1 or even bogart for god sakes. help to expose the little guys if you are that passionate.

C:i really want to hear what ninthward has to say about this all.

i certainly hope that eliminating the competition WAS a bad business move.

if it wasn't, it means that everybody has accepted what steve does as acceptable within the ski industry, and that we have resigned ourselves to having skiing be like any other corporate system, and that we are down to reward such behavior by giving them our business.

i for one, will not.

true.

I agree with substance too. they wont die most likely, but its still not acceptable and i wont support them unless they change, that simple.

I feel that i can correctIy respond to this:

I can't even waste my time reading all of the bandwagon responses, but you kids need to know that this is a very tough industry and you have to, just like any other business, FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL. I am not defending MSP or anyone else, but it is a clear fact that business does not fall in your lap, and competition is just that: competition. In a football game you never see the other team missing tackles on purpose so the other team can score: so apparently winter isn't letting the competition score on him untouched either. He is a businessman, and businessmen compete. It would be great if everyone could have a big piece of the cake and no person had to worry about competition and survivial. That isn't how it is.

BOTTOM LINE: All of you kids bitch about MSP trying to ruin other companies and the ski industry. What exactly would you say that you are trying to do yourself here? Take a look in the mirror, and realize that you are doing the same thing you complain about on here, only in a widespread manner. And I don't care if you don't want to buy the movie, that is your decision and i respect that.

If you want to talk PM me

Monopoloies are inevitable so you guys should have seen this coming, its basic economics nam sayin, but yea fuck MSP berman's way better

I hope you aren't saying msp is a monopoly. It's not even close. It's more like monopolistic competition.

thats exactly what i ment, they're on that road though, wait, no, sk i movies will never be a monopoly what am i saying, what ev. Buy Stept. MSP just pwoned a good ski film company to get rid of competition. which is gay even though we all understand why they did it. FOR THE CASH MONEY MONEY! oh well fuck em, like i said buy, www.steptproductions.com

I am supremely confident that you have no idea what you are talking about.

The ski movie industry is just not strong enough to have anything like a monopolistic competition. MSP probably understands who they are marketing to and how they are doing it. They have a very specific formula that appeals mostly to people who don't watch a lot of ski movies, or aren't very "core" into skiing. They appeal to the new generation of Warren Miller fans. New, better skiing, better hits, SAME MENTALITY.

It's like pop music. It doesn't appeal to people that are really into music but if you are just getting into music or something, pop might sound all right to you.

MSP understands that they arent gonna sell a shitload of copies to the people that want a Level 1 type film. A film that real newschool skiers can enjoy. But they don't give a shit. Cause we don't have very much money.

So quitchabitchin. Don't buy MSP if you don't want to. I'm gonna buy it cause I like the athletes, and every year MSP helps me learn new tricks cause I have a half an hour to watch them take off.

Fight for survival? MSP was doing fine, relative to the film industry they are straight ballin, and would have continued to do fine. They do not NEED to do the things they do to these companies.

Your football analogy is bullshit...

I'll tell you what you don't see, is a shitty team's owner making deals with a talented team's owner to get them to miss tackles come game time. A football game is about talent, and TBC was a rookie team that ran all over MSP.

And you can't compare us putting down MSP to MSP putting down TBC or Berman. I am putting down MSP because I love skiing, the progression of ski films, and ski films in general. MSP putting down these companies is the anti-love of ski films.

If we accept MSP's behavior as appropriate, we will never have TBC's. And its not as if there isn't room in this industry for TBC's and MSP's. I don't want MSP to go out of business either, i just want their bullshit to stop, now.

ok first off when was the last time you saw an MSP sponsored even or event sponsored by a film company at all? Giving the film companies money doesn't = more comps. Also the money would be going to companys that care more about the sport if MSP wasn't around.

As for why people don't like MSPs movies as much as Bermans and stuff it's simply because MSPs movies are cookie cutter movies that are the exact same year after year with weak editing. They simply have such a strangle hold on the film industry that they can buy all the good skiiers and go on exotic trips all around the world to film and buy tons of helicopters and what not. Could you imagine what Berman would do with that kind of a budget?! That movie would the most amazing thing ever! When it comes down to it the only reason MSP is even around is because they where there right from the begining. If they tried to come in today they wouldn't stand a chance in hell

Every fucking year, like clockwork, MSP fucks other movie companies, fucks with sponsors, and generally fucks with skiing. Every year, again like clockwork, MSP puts out more or less the same movie teaser, and most of you cockbags suck their dicks like a prostitute would. And every year, MSP puts out a crappy, boring, completely staid movie, and far too many people buy it.

I've been hearing this kind of shit in regards to MSP's business practices for a damn long time. This isn't news, in that it's been going on for years. The only difference now is that we know.

It's time we, as a community, or as a consumer group (whichever way you see it), start using our heads when it comes to our movie purchases. Fuck MSP.

will some one please tell me the other bad things MSP has done in the past, you are all refering to them but i don't here any one giving examples.

this one deserves it too

In honor of all of your ineptitude, i present to you all this convoluted visual representation of NS and its current opinions, contrasted with the grim reality.... itll probably get taken down.

1150177763MSPRAWWWWx.jpg

somebody should steal a copy of the movie, only buy it if you have to, then make it avaliable to download off the internet, so since pretty much everybody hates msp, if they want the movie they dont have to pay for it, and msp wont get any money from them

Easy solution;

Everyone who supports MSP: Buy the movie.

People who dont: Look for a torrent of it and download it.

People against piracy of MSP: Buy the movie , then destroy it once you see it, or watch it at a premire or borrow it from a friend.

If you dont like MSP, there are lots of ways to still see the movie and not support thier company.

Uh... Helly sponsors them every year. Hell Abma is basically tailored right to him. Luckily, as I was discussing with some friends earlier this year while watching Focused (remember that? The last watchable MSP movie?), they're tailored to him too... he looks so much better in massive slow mo!
