Why do people think it is? No economist uses "stock market returns" as an indication of whether or not the country is doing well. It doesn't take a lot of things into consideration.

Want a current example? Look at the stock market right now and then look at the following: unemployment, crude oil prices, consumer confidence, durable goods orders, federal interest rate, industrial production index, and 10-yr bond yield . There's been a huge divergence between the S&P and those. If the economy was doing "well", then those would be up/down in the case of unemployment.

So Trump's "stock market returns" may be great (again, looking at a 10 year graph stocks are just continuing their prior trends until COVID) but PLEASE stop using them as a fucking metric to measure economic growth and success.
