A lot of you know that I have a cult for older members on NS - originally I created it as a place for other parents that I have met on the slopes who have kids in the "park" It took me a couple years and some embarrassing moments to figure things out with both park and newschoolers.

There was a thread where I just got beat on to death when I first joined Newschoolers. Not any different than what Mary was doing on Facebook. I figured there was a comment section, why not comment, I was stoked for the whole park scene to bring back the real fun in skiing after25 years. It wasn't long before I was labled a pedeophile. Th irony in all this was that it was the Roundtop Riders TWall Stepp and others that came to my defense.

In a nutshell people.. It is hard for those who did not grow up with the internet and message boards to get the hang of it. Its not something learned quickly. You have heard me use the term Internet kids? Its true. I don't think the kids who were harsh and mean really meant to hurt someone like Mary. I think they truly got caught by thinking they had found a bad guy when all they found was a sweet ol' mom was eager to show her support.

I'll get her back. It's my mission in life now. hahahaha and nooooooo, I am not trying to get "some" dirty minded little boys! I wanna make sure she knows how great Steve adn Tom are in person etc etc. Do some damage control if you will.
 
so ns freaked out, big deal, happens alllllllll the time just this time its an older person who gets to feel bad. All ns has is hate, most everything on the internet is hate, its because no one has to feel the reprocutions of what they say, deal with it
 
word dude, i have met steve and tom and they are two of the coolest guys ever and i know that steve kind of ripped on her but i think she needs to know how cool he really is, i mean he sat there for 45 minnutes last year at windells when he wasnt even my coach and shredded a flat box and taught me so much shit, she needs to see that thats the kinda guy steve is, not an ass hole like he kind of came off as in this thread
 
Dude............... learn to see the good. Remember this. If only good things happened there would not be the 6 O'clock news. Its the mean nasty dirty stuff that keeps people coming back for more. Sick I know, but true.

The minute someone says something is great, someone else will say, " it's ok" - then the debate ensues, on why its just ok vs "it's great, then the argument and then its a riot.

It's just the way things are.

hater alert^ dude you need to realize you are probably one of the contributors to ns hate. no one likes it. i know what its like to be hated on im sure you do too and its not fun. she has been really hurt and does not trust any more freestyle skiers for that matter. i talked to her today and she's lost all faith in the newschooler skiers. she is even contemplating not sending her kid to windells and thinks that everyone thinks shes a creeper when shes just a mom. i wish my mom was involved with my skiing honestly.

It sounds like a total copp out, but i really did think it was an alias. And, I for one am sending her a PM of facebook apoligizing.

geez that was harsh... this turned into a cruel joke. i think some of her posts were very funny, but honestly she was just an enthusiastic mother intrested in our sport... but just as our jokes can go overboard, so can enthusiasm. you really have to look at it both ways here.
 
i think that it is good that she shows intrest in our sport and its cool how she is trying to help her son out, i wish my parents showed me that much support with skiing (not that they dont show any at all) but what she does is awsome. good for her for wanting to be involved.
 
See, I get what you're saying here, but in my opinion, it's just a liiiittle bit different. As far as the latter is concerned, it's normal to be idolized by a 15 year old stoked on edits and banger amateur/professional skiers. And don't get me wrong, though it's slightly strange, I don't see anything wrong with a 50 year old woman being stoked on kids skiing either.

HOWEVER
I think it's weird for a [completely random] 50something year old woman to friend god knows how many skiers (that she doesn't know) and comment on their every move, status change, photo and video. It's definitely something that could get creepy when pushed to that degree.
Some people on here obviously took it too far in that they were relentlessly harassing of a completely harmless woman, but I see their motivation.
 
I think mary needs to chill out with the internet for a little bit. your too old for facebook, if you cant handle the teenage drama that comes along with it, you shouldnt be on facebook
 
it's only wierd because not many her age are do it? or they shouldn't be doing it? The irony here is how many are lurking here watching and reading just never posting.. Personally I think that is wierder. Lurkers bother me for some reason. It's just my opinion. as the older generation gets more in tune with their Iphones and as they find they have more time on their hands i think you will see more of a fan club thing going on. this is the growth of the sport we are seeing here. I mean how many grandmas love race car drivers, is any different. are they posting on message forums? absolutely!

its cool... and I understand all too well on how and why it happened. I would like to keep the thread in the public for later referral.

I written all kinds of stuff related to message board psychology, tons

of it stored in my mod notes. this is one more for the collection. It is an interesting dynamic that i have spent hours upon hour trying to explain to so many parents of freeskiers. They often look at me like I am nuts. am I nuts? yep. Its a nutty hobby of mine that I enjoy.

no worries. seriously

someone tell valley I am now going to get a life and go get laid which according to him is what I need to do.
 
My mom asked how to set up a facebook I told her her computer wasn't fast enough. It would consume her life if she got on there...
