Marriage

i think if your 18 and getting married, you think your in love but your really not, and in a few years, and a few kids, you will figure that out. And like 70% of america before you, you too will get divorced.
 
My best friend is getting married at 18 also. Well we're not really best friends anymore, we used to be, but all he used to do was hang out with this girl, and then he moved to Cali. I mean hes still my bro, but this girl has changed him a lot, and if hes happy, so be it, I'll support a wedding at 18 if he thinks the marriage will really last forever. Although he always wanted to live in Cali, and now his fiancee is making him move back to michigan. Lame, unless he really wants to.
 
i was in the same situation with my best friend. now we don't even talk. personally it would take a lot of love on both ends to make me get married at 18. and i don't think i would have been capable of loving a guy that much at 18. i was too busy with life and having fun and college and all that. but whatever they wanna do oh well. i bet they'll regret it though.
 
Why do you need to get married at 18 is my question. Why not just move in together, and just skip the title of Marriage. There is no need to rush into.
 
i think people use marriage as like a security thing like 'oh were getting married so we're untouchable' which isn't true. i don't really care what anyone says you can never fall in love with someone until you have and know you can tolerate living with them. it's stupid and naive to just fall and love and think marriage is going to work. it takes a lot more work than that. i'm not going to get married anyway i don't see a need for it, other than religious and financial reasons... and i keep my finances independent and i am not religious. anyone who gets married at 18 is just being immature and selling themself short seriously who would want to get tied down to a married life that young? i enjoy actually living life.
 
Is it for religious reasons? Such as, we can't have sex unless we get married? Even then, getting married at 18 is pretty screwed up. Life's only just beginning- there's so much he will miss out on.
 
I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm just asking if that's the reason. I went to school with a girl who married for that reason, and it was pretty fucked up. She was married, had a kid and was divorced all before she turned 20. And I also know this kid who is Mormon, who started having sex with his girlfriend when he was about 18, and told his priest/pastor/minister (whatever they are called in the Mormon church) about it, and it was very strongly suggested that he marry her. They were separated just under a year later. I think that concept is very outdated in today's world.
 
well think about it, in 4 years you will be out on your own, no college to tel you what to do, no parents. you should get your own place and your own job and do anything you want. im 18 and im scared about that, like whoa i am almost really independent. it would be awesome to have someone to help me out. i practically live with my gf now, cuz i always sleep in her dorm cuz my roomie is kinda gay, but i get that feelin every so often like dude you should really find someone quick....and i seriously want to find someone and propose and get married when i get out of college. it really sounds good, and looks good until it all goes thru and u meet some pretty hot girl in a bar that just wants to fuck, and you know she will be better than your future wife then you are just like, shit what did i get my self into. in the end marrige at 18 is stupid

i think thats pretty lame, plus at the age of 18 years, your not gunna have the same opinion on ur decision 10 years later.
 
you know your getting old when the friends you went to highschool with are getting married, i thought i would have at least another year or two before it started to happen (im 20, my 20 year old friend is getting married) i guess i better get used to it, once the kids start coming then ill really freak out, my fav quote, you have to get old but you don't have to grow up

that type of shit happens here in utah all the time. people get out of high school, find a return missionary and get married. personally i think its because many people are saving themselves for marriage to have sex. by getting married at 18, they are getting desperate and just want to bone. it sounds stupid on my part for thinking that, but it honestly is a possibility. many people really cant hold it in any longer, so rather than breaking a religious ideal, they go ahead and do it so its ok in the eyes of the church. and force themselves into marriage in the meantime.
 
so yea, we have marriage counselors at our school (you have to request them, but they are there) we also have a full time daye care for students at our school.

its pretty fucked up. dont get married so young, and use a dam condom.
 
plus, you dont go to prison when youre 15, you go to juvy.

Ok if you are 18 and your parents got alot of money or you got inheritance or some shit, and you will be well off. then sure. but not those white trash girls that get married and shit. not right.
 
i think you should wait, to establish yourself and get your life going and then get married, most 18year old marriages i know havent lasted... but thats just me
 
maybe where you live it is, here in white bread redneck idaho theres no law that says anything about that. and shes 17 now, and yes shes in real-live jail awaiting trail for meth trafficking.
 
You shouldn't be getting married if you have not considered even the most basic ideas...such as living COMPLETELY on your own (this means that you are not receiving help from the folks for ANY bills) getting a job, knowing what the FUCK you are doing in the world...my sister's best friend is getting married. She is a 22 year old senior in college and he is a 23 year old grad student...but it is different, becuase they have been dating for 7 years.
 
Seems weird people actually marry they're highschool girlfriend. I mean they're probably in love and all, but if you never take a look at the field, you will never find out whats in it.
 
i was the best man in a wedding for my 18 year old friend and his pregnant girlfriend. they ended up with two kids, and got a divorce because she was a psycho. he got full custody. but she changed him a ton and we don't talk anymore. i'm not exactly an advocate.
 
I think its stupid and pointless. because if you really think about it. marriage is just a word.
 
not true if both parents sign releases you can get married.

theres this girl in my school whos been engaged for like 2 years now and shes 17 or so, crazy.
 
people should do what they want. you cant stop them. I dont think its a god idea at all unless your rich.
 
it can be done I guess. My parents were like 19 when they got married and that was 33 years ago. But I wouldn't recommend it. I like the 10 year plan. Be a couple for 10 years before marriage. If that works, then get married.
