Marker Kingpin

Looks pretty interesting. The heel is exactly as I thought. Getting rid of the pins in the heel will remove a lot of fear of tech I think for customers. Most people get the idea of clasping the pins onto the toe but the pin heel scares people I have found. Having an alpine style heel simplifys the whole system. It will also from what I can tell (onenerdykid can you confirm?) accept alpine heel boots that have been converted for the toe So that may open up more boot options. I certainly would like to try a pair.
 
I was shocked to read it's lighter than the Beast, and only 100grams heavier than the Radical. Bummed about the price tho.
 
Sadly the toe piece lacks the great inovations the heel piece has. Would still buy if i had the money.

I have been doing some research on the Kingpin today in hopes of buying it when it comes out in December. What I have gathered is that you need a boot with the tech toe clasp but an alpine style heel. It sounds like a solid option for the freeride touring market.. I have been thinking of getting the Dynafit Beast but now that is this is coming out I am thinking it is a better option. Cheaper and lighter, the Beast has an advantage on higher DIN though.

2 options boot wise you can go full tech and just add a small plate to the heel like you do on the beast, or you go for a boot like you say.

I would not not really consider this a beast competitor though more a radical style. So if you were looking at the beast you may still want to look there or the 14 version

December 2015. Just get Beasts now and enjoy.

You only need to adapt boots like TLT6 which have short heel lugs. Most boots need no modification.

Whatt?!? Really?? Beasts are like $850. And Tom, any more info how you think they are closer to the radical? Most everything I have been reading compares them directly to the Beast. I am looking for a freeride touring binding that I can efficiently skin up a hill but not be afraid to charge a real line on the way down.

Yeah it's not a binding for this season but if you work in the industry they will be plenty around that I'm sure you could get your hands on. In terms of the build firstly look at the release values it's only equivalent to a 12-14 din binding. This should straight away indicate that it is not designed to be ridden as hard as the beast. And in terms of the heel it's designed more for simplicity of use and ease of release rather then holding the heel solid like the beast. If you were considering these I would look at the radical 2. They are around this season and will be a good all round tech binding. Or wait a season and compare the markers to the other new tech bindings coming out next season.

Yeah that extra 2 din really makes a difference..?? Just because of that 2 din its no equivalent to the beast? I think its real difference is the lack of any form of safety release in the toes..

And why doesnt this heel hold you down like a beast? Its practically the same as a Jester..plus the beast still works with the pins but with added wider pin things..so what do you think works better? A heel just like an alpine binding (One a lot of people like) or an upgraded old skool pin design?

It will be interesting to see what Salomon and Atomic have waiting for us.. If it doesnt have any form of rotation or safety release in the toes they are idiots..if it has and also has a nice working heel piece they will score a lot of sales..

So far the Skitrab TR2 has the best working new design imo..

Yeah I would say when you build a binding around a 16 release rather then a 12 the designers are basing the whole design On the more hardcor aspect of riding.

And heel wise yes I think the updated heel of the beast so tech pins with forward pressure is a better way to go then the alpine heel. I may be wrong as I have not skied the marker but I would expect less torsional rigidity from the marker then the beast so in terms of skiing it hard the marker would not compare to the beast.

But we will all really have to wait to see and try them out to form real opinions.

So you're not "thinking of getting the Dynafit Beast"? Make up your mind pal.

If price is an issue then just get some old Vertical STs, hold back a little, lock out the toes in no-fall zones, and enjoy. You know, like everyone has been doing for over 30 years.

Yeah, I have been thinking about the beast until I saw this. The kingpins are going to be $650 compared to $850 for the beasts. I would rather save $200.
