Marker jesters vs look pivots??????

honestly I've rode one pair of look pivots and it was a long time ago. In recent years all of my skis have had marker bindings. Lately I have been wondering about getting a pivot 15/18. Thoughts?

Both solid choices, can't really go wrong either way. No binding is faultless obviously, but as long as you buy one with an appropriate DIN range and have them mounted and adjusted properly, you shouldn't have too many issues.

I switched to jesters, rode pivots for years before that. Unless you really care about the different mounting points, the multi directional release, etc then just get whichever you can find a better deal on.

Pivots have that smaller mounting point so you get better flex out of the ski compared to the jesters, other than that they pm do the same thing with different characteristics

oh trueeeeeeeeee

The only reason I would even consider pivots over markers is cast.

if elasticity is what you’re after, they are the best but the half moon plates crack and it’s super annoying when the turn tables shift sideways when taking off bindings.

oh damn that low on the list?

I think they’re all in the same tier and perform very similarly. I just prefer pivots. Plus cast is a bonus if you ever want to upgrade

In my experience working at a ski shop doing binding calibrations, pivots test accurately for longer than jesters. I think marker uses less grease in their bindings or something but after a few years the dins often test higher than they’re supposed to

oh damn okay I wouldn't have even thought about that

Yeah that’s why pivots on Wets (or any super flex ski) absolutely slap way harder than say a griffon. Griffon has that massive plate under the bindings that hinders a thorough flex

Realistically the effect of pivots on flex versus bindings on a track is really really small. The track doesn't extend all the far from your boot

I'd say small but noticeable. Jesters also have a higher stack height putting you higher off the ski, making the ski feel slightly more "dead". I can't explain it but I feel like I can feel the ski better on a lower binding with a shorter platform. Not a huge deal and I have a pair of skis with markers but it's there.

Used both for years and found that pivots will last longer if taken care of. Pivot brakes are a pain in the ass to fix/replace if you find yourself ejecting a lot switch. Jesters shred the base plates making them wobble which can be a pain and they're known to eventually crack.

In regards to cracking marker baseplates I have definitely pulled off more broken pivot half moon plates than griffin/jester/squire tracks

Idk if they addressed that or something but I haven't broken a half moon since my fks 14's I got in like 2012. Also haven't bought jesters since like 2015 so no idea if they've gotten better base plates. I have a pair of Griffons on a pair of BDogs but I kinda gave them to my dad so no comment on those.

When it comes down to it I don't really believe in one binding being better than another, for me it usually comes down to one binding being more appropriate than the other.

For the record I've got sth, pivot, attack, and griffons all in active rotation. Some shit just feels better on other shit
