Marker dukes vs. naxo 21?

so i just got my SFBs and i'm deciding between the dukes and the 21s. the dukes look pretty solid and have gotten good reviews but it's their first year. so i don't know... and i can get naxos for cheep

shorter tours for the most part and yes to hucking bc jump and cliffs(but not huge stuff). there's the option of trekkers but i don't want to have to cary them around.

Personally, I think the Duke is the best Touring binder... but the Naxo's are the best riding binder.

The Duke has the forward pivot feature that makes it SUPER easy to trek with, while I'm not sure about the durability. It it's anything like the Jester (Witch is nearly identical), I think it would be a super fucking great binding. I don't really like the fact that you have to take the ski off to switch in and out of Touring mode though.

Naxo's are famous for being the bomber of all AT bindings, but since the Duke is too new to compare, I couldn't tell what which to chose.

For price, go with the Naxo's, You know their a great binding, and if you can get a great price.. do it.

Or be cool and switch entirely to Telemark. That's how it's done. Just kidding.

Hope this is enough info for you.

end of conversation...Dukes for sure. Just returned from a south america trip and skied the shit out of them. Never let me down. they ski just like alpine bindings.

naxos suck my balls, i've broke five pairs in two seasons.

The extra weight is not even on your mind. ripping the shred nasty is knarly mint epic.

taking your ski off to switch the binding is ummm.. sort of nesscary because when you tour, you just might be using skins. but when you take the skins off, sometimes you can be cool and take the skin off without taking your ski off, a trick my telemarking friends like to do.This trick can save time, like 15 seconds, not only does it save time, you dont have to expend the extra energy taking your ski all the way off. cuase shit, you just spent all that energy skinning to your destination....you dont want to blow your heart up or something. So with all this extra time and energy, you would be able to get the first powder turns and have more energy. I'm sold, dukes suck buy the naxos

i have heard from one of my big mountain (like ski tour style) friends that someone he knows has clamied the markers are really treally sick... he has taken really big hits on them without and problems. I feel like I would get the markers without hesitation over the naxos.

Not only that, but i know the the naxos are "soft"... there's some play in them that you can feel when you are ripping.

yeah> the naxos are dangerous to ski on at times. If your deep in a turn laying it over on firm snow, the naxos chatter like crazy and the skies will skip out from under like your water skiing. it is so fucked. I once was skiing above massive exposure and the fore said event happened...fuck naxos.

DUKE!!

you weigh a buck 55, haven't broken bindings before and you're not planning on hucking huge stuff. save your money. buy the naxos and enjoy.

the duke is sooo nasty. for sure the most solid AT binding out. most AT bindings are wicked tall and have a good deal of slop in them. the dukes are locked down reallly well and ski like you want them to. buy them, worth the extra $

backcountry/tramdock already sold out of larger dukes for those without midget feet

do the dukes and the jesters have the same mounting points, or are there extras on the dukes?

would a shop that sells jesters but not dukes have a clue how to mount them?

From what I've read (no personal experience), the duke will be a better bet if you're doing a lot of resort accessed backcountry, but if you're bagging peaks on your own without any in-bounds terrain, the Naxos will be better.

Yeah, that kid is talking out of his ass.

Having owned 2 different pairs of Naxos and spending a fair amount of time wrentching on Dukes + talking with many people whom just kill it and have skied both...

Dukes no question. No comparision. Stiffer going up, so so much better going down.

Naxo do a good job going down, they do, but a lot of people skiing the Dukes have notice no different between the Dukes and their normal alpine bindings. So much beefier.

And SO much more durable. It is just a matter of materials. They feel much more solid than Naxos.

I should note, too, that I have been a big proponent of the Nx21 ever since it came out.

IMO, it is much better than the Freeride. It does ski pretty well and it does tour pretty well, for the touring bindings that were available.

The Duke is going to ski much better though. Sure, it will slightly heavier, but honestly....most people skiing it aren't going to be bagging high alpine peaks. If they were they would be using Dynafits as those are unquestionably the best binding in that situation.

For someone who want a binding that can ski both in and out of bounds, tour, all season long without fear that they will break one day a few miles into the BC....the Duke is the best option.

You will ski better with it too....

I'd go with the naxo's because I really don't see you needing much more than a 12 DIN setting, let alone 16.

The old nx01 had problems with the toe piece, but the problem is fixed with the nx21's.

It isn't a matter of din setting really. While that will come into play for some people, it doesn't for most.

It is a matter of durability and power transfer to the ski, both of which are much better in the Duke.

I like my nx21's, and they've held up fine on 15ft drops. I will mention that on hardpack I feel some float, that's my only gripe on the binding, otherwise they are fine. Soft snow I don't notice at all.

Is this going to be a strictly bc ski, or will it go inbounds? You'll be fine either way, but if it's going to be half inbounds, half touring ski, you might think about the dukes.

Oh, and how wide of a ski? I just bought some dukes to put on some new fatties.

Haha! It's funny because you don't even know who I am.

Like I said, I don't know how the duke rides as far as dropping big cliffs and hard riding. But when I toured with them, I liked them better than my Tele's.

As far as the Naxo's... they don't have the forward pivot, so it's not gonna be as well of a touring binding, and i've never heard anyone have any problems with it when riding, so he'll probably be fine with them.

I'm not trying to sell him more than he needs... as far as I'm concerned, nobody should need a Retention setting that goes up to 16.

I personally think the dukes are better yes, but by Price point, he can get the Naxo's for super cheap, and they are a really nice binding.

I know what I'm talking about... I spend most of my time with AT kids because I've convinced them to get into the B/C with me and they don't want to switch totally to telemark. So I know first hand the pro's and con's of different AT gear.

And it you want a binding that's great for touring and would REALLY hold you in... go with the non-releasable Dynafits. Just don't fall.
