A staple in our camp has passed away.Mark Stegall was more than a camp coach and park manager for MHSSC.He was an enthusiast of shredding, passing on his enthusiasm, passion, skills and love for the sport to all who approached. He gave his personal time to helping others achieve what they aspired for, and what they feared.
Mark has managed mhssc's park for quite some time now, and for any of you who ever approached our terrain park on mt hood during the summer in search of shredding some features, you know mark was open to offer if you were willing to dig a little. He did work his ass of at every corner of our camp. From building our skate ramps, all our park features to driving one camper all the way to the coast to share some surfing knowledge for a day.He was a selfless man who gave his heart for our shredding youth.
Mark was in a terrible boarder cross accident in tahoe a few weeks ago, he went home and complained of some back and neck pain. He was found dead in his tahoe apartment days later.
This is devastating to our camp. Our current freestyle group will continue to operate a passionate, open-minded terrain park for freestyle snowboarders and skiers.

Mark was awesome, he will be forever missed. MHSSC won't be the same without him. RIP

im having a hard time taking it in. Because i keep forgetting he wont be joining us this summer, when we have all had plans to do things. like he was planning on building dry slope above our tramp area where the large skate ramp used to be and put a bunch of rails and boxes down. Now his thriving ambitions wont be with us this summer, it will be weird.

NO FREAKING WAY?!!

I just took a USASA coaching course from him last winter. Yea he snowboards and I coach skiing, but holy fuck. That guy really knew his shit about boarding and just techniques. I can imagine he was really high competition in Boardercross races. I remember him doing steezy BS 3's in the park when we were doing the course just to show us that he can really ride, fuck that sucks!! RIP

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooothis sucks so much, he was such a big part of MHSSC, always listened to what we had to say about the park and was always helping making it better, its never gonna be the same without himSIP

Mark was an awesome guy, he was always so upbeat at MHSSC. There are few people you meet in life that are just really genuinely good people, and he was one of those. Plus he crushed it. Something we all can still learn from him. Missed, but not forgotten.

not to change the subject, but are there still plans to do this?

and i always remember my first summer at mhssc, mark would tell us horror stories about his motocross and boardercross accidents. he had a energy rarely seen. and man was he passionate about the MHSSC park.

RIP, very sad. he made the snowskate park at schweitzer and that was always a good time.
just out of curiosity, how exactly did he die? i know he crashed but it seems strange that he was OK for a couple days

Hi. I'm one of Mark's sisters. I saw the link from his Facebook page. I have to tell you that while we are missing him terribly right now, we are we are so incredibly touched by the stories and comments that people have shared about Mark. Thank you. I am saving the comments, photos, etc. to put in a book for my parents. We will be planning some type of celebration up at Mt. Hood this summer, with the camp, so I will let people know once that is set. Also, if any of you are going to the USASA Nationals this week, my sister and I will be there. Please stop by and say hello.
