Mark Abma Edit

He's super well rounded. I just wish that matchstick didn't dedicate all that time in their movies to him.

abma kills it. but MSP and all that slow-mo doesn't. I want to see some of his tricks, specially those tails 3's, off cliffs without the slow-motion and playing it over and over again from a different angle. silly msp. pillows looked so fun and deep too, bastard.

Finally his style in the park doesn't look like shit. I remember in like yearbook and hit list and stuff when he had the ugliest mutes and stuff over those whistler kickers at sunset with the helicams. He kills it and he's awesome all around, but he seriously lacks a defined style in the park. It's pretty generic.

nah dude, I think he's got it.

What separates our sport form shit like football or soccer or whatever is that there's an emphasis on style, not just the ability to do stuff. Abma is sick, but he's got a real 'athletic' looking style, if that makes any sense. He's able to do all the shit that other guys can, but he's nowhere near as steezy doing it, so he's lacking a pretty substantial component of what makes a real 'super-pro' or whatever you'd want to call a guy like Tanner or Jon, or even Seth.

concurred on the 'athletic looking style.

abma must have one of the strongest cores out their (sans hugo harrison). his upper body is so quiet when he skis.

How long has it been since you washed your hair?

A year ago this January. So I guess that'd be about a year and a half.

Why are you doing that?

Oh. I just don't see the need in washing hair. I kind of feel like if you wash your hair and then you don't wash your hair for two weeks it'll get super greasy. But if you give it a month or so, it just takes care of itself and the natural oils don't go through the radical changes. It'll just kind of find that balance, you know?

^thats outta his interview..kids dirty as hell

I just wanted this to appear again, so people could read what you're saying; partially to diminish your credibility on this site, and partially to give you a chance to reread what you wrote and think about how laughable it is.

pssssshhh Abma has sick style. watch his fuckin 3 blunts, holds the grab almost the whole 3 and tweaks that shit. smooth and clean. and does it where it really counts, the mountains, not a fuckin park.

thank you, abma is "super legend" now, so i dont think little NS'ers can hate on him + abma is pro and famous for a reason, hes style is differnt, not bad, not tom wallisch (no hate intended cuz hes sick too), but abma, he is who he is and theres no other way to put it.

thanks, but that's just not at all true. Abma is one of the most talented and well rounded skiers in the world, Respect.

Abma makes everything he does stylish. He throws the biggest threes off of huge cliffs and make them look easy. He definately has the style to be the super-pro that he already is

whoa, what?

I didn't think there was anything too controversial in there, and it def. wasn't just hating on Abma. The point is, in the park, his stuff looks pretty generic, which was suggested by the dude I quoted first. Obviously people will disagree on that, but I was just trying to give a little more explanation as to why people say that about his style. I'm not the first person I've heard say something to that effect, but if you feel like pulling out your pro card to knock me down, lol, go ahead; I know kids love that shit on here.

Abma rips, but his stuff in the park just isn't very creative at all - thus my 'athletic style' classification. Maybe that's a gay name, but I couldn't think of anything more appropriate. Even look through the edit you posted, he's doing pretty stock tricks as far as pro-level dudes in the park go. They're sick, but the emphasis seems to be on the fact that he can do the trick, rather than how he does it. I think that's a pretty important distinction to make, especially when there are so many people ripping in the park right now.

Again, I'm not calling for him to quit skiing or some stupid shit like that, but I am making a critique on his skiing, which fans, at least in my opinion, are allowed to do.

omg ur retarded. ur talking about his style in the park, and then comparing him to seth????? do u see seth ever riding the park throwin switch 7 mutes? And then you compare him to Jon?? When was the last time u saw Jon shredding a gnarly line? never. The edit shows how Abma is one of the most well rounded skiers out there, not every pro can ski both all mountain and park like abma can

great point, i agree entirely, and def. feel that a certain someone was trying to be the big man on campus by puttin you down.

i love it how on NS someone makes a point, people agree for a bit, then get owned. then, and only then, all the people who were scared of dissagreeing show up and hop on the new bandwagon.

I think afterbang is sick and way funny in real life, but I personally like watching more natural style in edits and movies.

i personally like both. i love the fact that people like wallisch and vanular stomp the shit out of stuff with afterbang or whatever. thats sick. but at the same time its crazy to see someone like abma who has such body control nail switch 7s and nines. sure hes not xxxl or making it look like he doesnt care, but hes got great control. not to mention the shit he lands in lines in the BC

since you had a problem with your intial call out, i'll do it, i'm not a pro. the dude doesn't ski park every day. don't hate on his style. beyond this fact, what's wrong with his park tricks? just because it's not a switch double with a ten fingered grab doesn't mean it's no good. sure he's not a leading force in park tricks but i don't doubt for a minute that he's better than you. the guy can charge faces that would make you shit your pants twice and still do stylish tricks in the park. instead of berating the guy, give him some props. or if you really have a problem with his style, god forbid you just keep your mouth shut.

seeing as this thread seems to be mainly about calling people out i thought i'd get in on the action. it gives me great pleasure to inform you that jon (i assume you are referring to the mercurial mr. olsson) rips the fuck out of big mtn, a fact he demonstrated emphatically by winning at the 2004 scandinavian big mtn championships where he beat the likes of kaj zackrison, jon larsson, seb garhammer, sverre lillequist and stian hagen. just so as you know...

oh, and i dare say seth owns in the park- if he can throw a rodeo 7 off a 60 footer in AK i would think a sw 7 mute in the park wouldn't prove too challenging...

That abma's park tricks look "generic" does not make him a bad skier. He is an incredible skier and at the forefront of melding park and backcountry/big mountain skiing. "dood" wasn't knocking his skill or credibility as a top pro. Abma is great in the backcountry but mearly average to below average in the park as far as pros/good ams go. all this means is that he isnt Tanner Hall (he's not superhuman)

oh... i almost forgot to be in the spirit of ns..............

symms.....get the stick out of your ass

I'd say abma is probably one of the best real skiers out there, his technique is close to flawless. His big mountain lines are gnarly and he's STILL incorporating 3's into them, which ups the technicality level even more. He can throw sick ass grabs into pretty much any trick he does into the park. The reason he doesn't have that "style" is because he keeps his technique flawless everywhere he goes, he doesn't deviate from the form that he has in the big mountain for the most part. When you ski like that all the time, it's hard to switch styles in different parts of the mountain, e.g. backcountry to the park.

and whoever said jon doesn't shred gnarly lines...I laugh at you. Very hard.

get your head out of your ass. Jon is probably THE VERY BEST all-around skier out there (pipe, slopestyle, big air, racing, big mountain, etc). Abma is up there, too, but Jon is just a god of skiing. Abma probably is a little better than seth in the park though, but seth is not considered a pro park skier. However, they can still throw down damn well and Abma will be a legend in due time.
