Marijuana legalization rumor

its decriminalized, basically if a cop catches you he takes your shit and gives you a $100 fine with nothing going on your permanent record.

once it passes in this current committee(practically already has)it then goes to the state congress and has to pass thereand from there it goes to deval, and he has to sign it...
and im guessing he wont becuase im pretty sure that he was opposed to decriminalizing

yeah i got the same thing but it wasent that once he gets a million votes he was going to legalize it, but it was an idea..

not sure if im in favor of decriminalization, its gonna get the shit taxed outta it. but i guess i can still just keep buying from my dude.

decrim doesn't mean shit. It just means you get a civil fine and it's still an illegal drug, just not a crime. And just because it's legal doesn't mean you have to buy it from the corner store... I'm sure there will still be plenty of people with that funky homegrown willing to slang you bags for cheaper than the taxed and regulated shit so they can still make their buck.

you mean legalization

decriminalization means you still get it from ur guybut you dont get fucked if you get caught

Really necessary? You know it's possible that other people have different views, and maybe you could respect those different views, instead of getting in their faces.

The article said that it probably won't pass, but it is a starting point because it is the first time that a state legislature has introduced a full legalization bill. It is pretty cool that a state is doing this. If it passed in one state I'm sure it would pass in a few others. After that if it did well (I'm sure it would) maybe a federal bill would be passed. Pretty neat stuff.

nah, truth. Marijuana is one of the easiest drugs to overdose on too. Every time you put that pipe up to your mouth you're risking killing yourself. Why do people do drugs? It just isn't smart.

shit like this is hilarious. obama doesnt give a shit about weed, he's too busy trying to take over healthcare

weeds been decriminalized in ny for a while now, wouldnt surprise me if more states started doing the same. legalization on the federal level wont happen until a bunch of states have it decriminalized (if legalization ever happens, which is very debatable)

You are so off base on that post it's amazing.

The entire point of medical bud is to provide it to people who need it in a legal manner. It needs to be legalized for so many reasons.

First of all, it's only illegal because of political corruption and racism.

Second of all, if California alone legalized and taxed, it it is estimated that it could bring in 700 million a year in taxes, enough the put a huge dent in its deficit. country-wide, it's estimated that it could bring in about 70 billion a year in taxes. that alone would cover the first worthless "bailout".

http://www.canorml.org/background/CA_legalization2.html

Third of all, if legalized, it would help much more than the current "drug war", to help put the drug lords out of business. If people can walk into a store and buy good quality ganja, why would they buy illegally grown cartel weed?

Fourth, Illegal drug growing operations do horrible damage to the environment. Cartels where I'm from in Califonria destroy/trash the areas they grow their "prodcut" in. Legalization would lead to more sustainable growing practices and better technology to grow as well.

Fifth, and probably most importantly it would allow (finally) for the hemp industry to flourish again, providing an alternative industry to the oil tycoons. Hemp can be used for almost anything and is also extremely healthy for you. It's one of the only plants that has all necessary amino acids in it.

Sixth, as to your comment of the government "fucking it up", do have any idea what's in some of the weed you get? You don't want to know. If it was legalized, you could buy certified organic bud if you wanted to or you could buy the bud grown with pesticides as well.

I could keep going but I have to pack for going to Moab for the weekend.

Legalization isn't just for making it easier to get, it's about helping economy by taxing and providing new jobs, lowering the crime level, saving money by eliminating the useless and resource intensive war against drugs, and providing a product for people who need it medicinally.

BCL pointed this out to me earlier, the dealers would still sell their own shit, but it would be cheaper than going into a store and buying it. this way they can still make some cash.

sure, people will grow on their own and sell that but i'm talking about the orginizations like the cartels. once the legalized industry gets some momentum going, there will be no need to buy/support the cartels and their violent/destructive life-styles.

you don't see any cartels growing tobacco do you (although arguably Phillip Morris is as close as you could get in the corporate world)?

If the government were to set a price floor, yes this would happen. But it wouldn't happen because why would the government not want to make $billions$ in tax revenue?

You do realize the reason cannabis is so expensive is because of the black market right? There is an enormous amount of risk to get the product to where you can purchase it. If that risk is gone the price is going to plummet. It won't be at the price the market would like because obviously the gov't is going to implement taxes, but the price is going to either be comparable or much lower than current prices.

Either way I don't give a fuck. Sure I'll buy some loosies every once in a while (how crazy of an idea is that!) and bags when I'm out, but the second it gets legalized is the second I put the seed in the dirt for my own plant.

Yep. There's a reason you can make 2 grand by backpacking through the woods for a couple hours across the Canada/US border.

everyone keeps on saying that people will grow their own and sell it to people. now the way I look at it is totally different. Currently the government has been cracking down on illegal tobacco aka....natives (ciggs rolled from tobacco grown by non-government taxed groups/people for those who don't know). soo if it is illegal to sell tobacco products in such a way im sure the government will apply a similiar law if the ganja was ever legalized.

my point being that it will prob still be illegal to grow weed to sell so getting it from the guy down the street will be no diff from gettin ciggs from the guy down the street when legality is taken into consideration.

idk for sure tho just an ideaaa

b-b-b-but the union told me 6 billion in taxes. im not doubting you because i know you know your stuff, but how could the number jump so quickly? wait, was the union talking about only the taxes they could get from vancouver or BC/canada as a whole? or america? haha i havnt watched the movie for a while.

of course. it doesn't matter what business you're running, if you're not paying taxes, the gov't will come after you for it.

no u can have up to a ounce on you with out getting arrested. but youll get a huge fine. but i u have a bowl or any rolling papers or blunts or a scalu get arrested and fined and fucked 10 times harder

I dont know, it depends on the numbers/states etc that they are taking into account. 6 billion is a pretty low estimate considering amount of weed smoked in the US.... i havne't watched that movei in a long time.

No. Do you not understand what a committee hearing is? All they did was listen to someone present the bill. It won't be voted on for a while.

With that said there's actually some pretty great news about to happen. Obama and his administration are set to release a 3-page set of guidelines on new US policy regarding actions towards legal, state medical cannabis dispensaries.

Basically, Obama is finally living up to his word, at least a little bit, and advising that no dispensary acting accordance to state law will be targeting by the DEA. A small victory, but a victory nonetheless.

By the government's count, 14 states allow some use of marijuana for

medical purposes: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine,

Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island,

Vermont and Washington.
