Marijuana legalization rumor

at lunch today the big story was that weed was made completely legal in massachussetts today. does anyone know if this is true?
 
All I know is that i got mass texts telling me to vote for a petition. 1000000 signs=Obama legalizes weed.

Members of the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Revenue are scheduled to hear House Bill 2929, 'An Act to Regulate and Tax the Cannabis Industry,' on Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 at 10 am in Room B2 of the State House. House Bill 2929, along with its companion bill SB 1801, were introduced by request in March.

NORML founder and Legal Counsel Keith Stroup will testify in favor of the measure – along with NORML Advisory Board member Dr. Lester Grinspoon (Harvard Medical School emeritus) and members of NORML's state affiliate, the Massachusetts Cannabis Reform Coalition.

Minnesota has had a similar law for a long time, where people with less than an ounce get a $200 ticket. If Mass actually legalizes weed though, they are going to tax the shit out of it and most people will probably continue getting it on the black market anyway to avoid the tax.
 
On this chain message or whatever it gives you a number to call and it says that its gonna tax it like alcohol + tobacco. itd be worth it to be able to smoke a blunt with no risk at all
 
Well there is a federal bill in the works right now for the taxation and legalization of mary jane but it won't pass. Imagine if it did though that would be so funny. Right now in Cali we've got some thing that is going to increase taxes on medical pot and try to legitamize the way the system works a little more, because right now its pretty much wild west shit.

If its just a decriminalization bill, even if it passes, it won't really do anything probably. Weed is decriminalized in west hollywood, but if you don't get pulled over specifically by WHPD, so its CHP or LAPD or whatever, you are screwed anyway. Some sort of thing going on in Denver I think.

if it becomes legal the government will fuck it up like cigarettes with chemicals and taxes and its a lot easier and more simple how it is, you can get BOMB medi bud [sittin on some right now :) ] and besides when you were a kid the funnest part was that it was illegal!

people just need to not be stupid and not get in twouble for silly things that can be avoided
 
i was talking to you...it is decriminilized. if a minor is caught, parents are notified, 100$ fine, and you just need to go to drug abuse counseling. if your an adult caught with less then a zip, you need to pay a 100$ and you are not recorded to the federal criminal database.
 
i see what youre saying with the 70 years thing, but the biggest thing

profitable cash crop (which i think massachusetts just figured out), i

dont think the prohibition will last very long. that being said, people

are stupid.

personally i dont even know if i want it legalized.....its more fun this way.

hopefully something changes with the stupid prohibition of marajuana. The question I always ask people against the legalization/decriminalization is can you prove that marajuana is any more detrimental to my life or health than tobacco or alcohol, two already legal substances that have killed a lot more people than marajuna ever has???
 
I know a lot of people that basically think like that. Some girl I know told me I was a bad person one day.

I am signed up to work at a soup kitchen for volunteer work, have volunteered for habitat for humanity etc... so I was like whoaaa how am I a bad person....and she said I am a bad person only because I smoke weed. WTF? If I want to smoke weed it isn't harming anyone but me...besides how can a person go home to their family and beat them when they can't even get off the couch lol (bad stereotype but I actually only smoke weed when I wanna jam on the couch)

i don't know if you have ever grown weed before, but personally, i would love to be able to tend to plants worry free and with out a fishing pole.
