Marijuana decriminalized in MA

say what? i dont smoke weed but i never new new york was decriminilized.
also jsut to be clear, decrim. is when under an ounce is tolerated with a fine only, but that dosent mean its legal to smoke or own for that mattter, its just not a felony anymore? if thats true its a step in teh right direction but not nesscaily better, execpt you dont get a felony or whateva.

Congratulations Mass! Alaska has been decriminalized for a while; you're going to love it. It's fucking rad!

Ya but the federal government can retaliate by screwing Massachussetts. I don't understand how it can be legal to have only a little, but not illegal to have a lot. That makes no sense to me. It should be one or the other.

so many parents do cause they don't want concicuences to be as high if there kid or kids friend has it or watever reason. it should just be legal to be high in certain places cause that wouold solve so many problems.

woooo 781

i don't even smoke but i'm happy it passed. Ha, my dad basically forced me to vote yes, and he's a cop. Apparently giving kids penalties like they had before used to be a pain in the ass and made cops feel like assholes, but they had no choice. So from what i hear, even cops are happy.

BUT note that this is only the police. Don't think you can bring a joint to your school or anything because they still can, and will fuck you over

I don't really know how to explain what I was thinking about, but I guess the best way is to imagine the police finding someone with .9 ounces hanging out with someone carrying 1.1 ounces (I know, a lot, just roll with it). So under this law, the person with .9 ounces is good to go and the person with 1.1 is fucked over. I don't really get it. It is progressive though, and it will help tremendously with the huge amounts of tiny busts that just waste everyone's time. I guess you have to start somewhere.

Trick is that it is not LEGAL. You just won't get slapped with criminal charges if you have it. Getting caught with a small amount of weed won't have the potential to fuck up your life anymore. It's more of a comparison to a parking ticket now.

As far as limits go... it works the same way with drinking and BAC for breathalyzers.

You are all missing a part if the law, if you under 18 and you get caught you get a 100 fine and you need to go to a class. If you miss or don't go to the class you get a 1000 fine.

Also this doesn't mean you can walk down the street smoking a blunt, all it means is that police have to do less work when they find grass on you.

You are missing the big picture of it all...

It is a HUGE step in the long road of legalization. I hardly ever smoke up (maybe twice in the past year), but notice the significance of this. You are seeing a sign of the times and changing ideas in play. A few states had already done this, but as it spreads to more and more larger states, it shows the significance of the issue and in due time, the whole policy towards marijuana will be changed.

Decriminalizing in Mass is a huge deal.

a huge step in the right direction or wrong direction depending on how you look at it.

I voted yes on the question, not because I want to see marijuana legal or "decrimalized" but because kids who are under 18 really get fucked when they are cut. They can looze there financial aid to school, the ability to get loans, also it goes on their records which means it will hurt them when they try to get a job. This fact alone can send them down a rough road. Lets face it unless you are very lucky you are going to have to get fiancial aid for college, if you can't get that then most kids won't be able to afford school. So they then go work, they can't get a job because of their record, so now they are jobless, with no school. Not all kids but some will turn to drugs, gangs, and a life that sucks. If this life of drugs gangs... continues they will be put on walfare costing us more money in the end. I know this is a extreme case but it does happen.

better still watch out at the private universities...northeastern especially. they are incredibly strict concerning marijuana offenses!

That doesn't make any sense to me. A lot of people I know have around 1 oz at all times...that's why I think it's stupid to have both amounts illegal.

not at all they still search people and give them tickets for carrying. in the west island tough...dont know about downtown

Good work boys .. keep it up. Dont let then take this away from you. It was decriminalized in Ontario years back, then recriminalized ... who knows what it is now ... Then again its Canada, why they dont out right legalize it is beyond me.

I read an interesting article in the West Coast Leaf about how federal courts are beginning to try and put a ban on federal agencies infringing upon states' rights.

what in their back pocket?

that's an unnecessary amount to keep on your person unless its in your residence. anywhere else, you're more than likely makings sales.

sorry to buzzkill but its still a criminal offense in VT, i found out the hard way.

And i'll keep going, if you are caught with herb and you're under eightteen it's a thousand dollar fine w/o a record or regular diversion(in mass) . if you are over 18 and under an ounce its a hundred dollar fine but you walk away from it. so question 2 is great, if you are eighteen and over.

you are missing the point you slothy mcsloth face. not everyone always carries aruond an ounce because not everyone deals. think about, go pick up a nickle to share with some friends for the night, get pulled over, well, instead of getting hardcore fucked over, you only get a little bit fucked, and the cops get your buds. way better than when you could get arrested and a permanent mark on the record. so all it does is protect the everyday smoker, not dealers, from pearmanently killing their rep. bottom line: weed isn't that bad, its losing its stigma as a drug for criminals.

...and you're an idiot. it isn't "legal", it's "decriminalized". there's a difference. and the reason a little is decriminalized while a larger amount is still criminal is kinda on the same level as 5mph over the speed limit getting you a ticket while 50mph over the speed limit will get you some time. they assume if you have an ounce or less, it's for personal use as opposed to selling, so it's "ok".
