Manual or Automatic? Whats a good car choice?

I'll give you an example.

People that own a drag racing car, only built for drag racing, have automatic transmissions. The reason: manual shifting takes a lot of time (relatively) to switch from a gear to another compared to automatic ones, which are all done electronically.

I'm not tlaking about people with manual cars that over revs them while racing somebody with an automatic car that shifts @ 3000-3500rpm.

So yeah, automatic transmissions are LOT faster than manual, you just have to compare 2 same cars!

Oh and sorry about double post, but you were talking about F1... thoses races are not the same as drag races at all... Indeed manual shifting is a lot better on a track, human judgement is a lot better than a computer. A person will downshift faster than a computer, based on the fact that the pilot knows a curve is close.

I'll try to search on other forums to have a proof about it.

as far as drag racing goes, i believe you, because drag racing is the laziest kind of racing possible.

engine braking is "harder" on your engine than not using engine braking...true. But if your engine blows from engine braking you had a MUCH bigger problem than that. If your motor cant stand up to that i have no idea how it would be allowed out of the factory.

as for your question. if you get an automatic you will spend the next year wishing you had a manual. i guarentee that.

My neighbors had issues with theirs. I heard from them that the engine requires a higher performance gas. Like if you go to the station there's three options for gas and you have to choose the second one, I think, that's what I've heard. If you buy that gas for it, it will work fine, if you don't it will be crap. That's just what I've heard, might not be true.

they use paddle shifting which is in between manual and automatic because you can choose when to shift but you dont have to use a clutch

hahahaha is that a joke? last time i checked shifting above 3000 is not considered anywhere near an "over rev". actually last time i checked, my car can't be over revved seeing as the rev limiter is set at 7200rpm. that is the reason manuals are faster than automatics, you have control on when you want to shift. wanna go faster? blow through the gears at what their worth, not have a computer shift for you at 3000rpm...

if your getting a truck or suv...go with an auto for that suv's and trucks are mad slow and it woudnt be as good with a manuel. a car tho def go with a manuel im regretting not gettin the civic si becusae i thought i woudnt like manual when after driving one i realized how sick they are and i ended up with the exl still nice car. but car=manual truck=auto

you actually didnt read well.. i said automatic shifts at 3000-3500rpm, i didnt mentioned at which rpms manual shifting was considered over rev

i tend to stay as close as possible to the cut off with my ek9, so thats 7000rpm and a bit higher

get a honda or a toyota in my opinion their both really reliable also i personally like manual transmission just because their really fun to drive
