Mans heart stops after drinking red bull

Not surprised. I woke up the day after new years where I consumed 6 rockstars mixed with a 26er of jager and honestly felt like I has going to have a heart attack. it was pumping at twice my normal rate and super hard. Scared the shit out of me

arent red bulls 8 oz's? if so, thats only 64oz of redbull in 5 hours. it must have been the combination with excelled heart rate from exercise.

i drink 48oz of rockstar on a daily basis...

scary.

thats a lot...i drink 12 oz of monster about every other day...and i hate rockstar. but you might want to cut back on that

i drink the sugar free rockstars, they have a lot of vitamins, and taurine, which i read up on and is supposed to be really good for you.

it has low sodium too, the only thing i can think that might be bad is the amount of caffeine. it has 80mg of caffeine.

does anyone know how that compares to other energy drinks, how much caffeine is considered a shit load?

8 Redbulls? This guy is fucking nuts! I agree that it must have been the combination of high intensity sport and the energy drink.

k, got it. a can of redbull (8oz) contains the same amount of caffeine as a can of rockstar (24oz)

80mg...which is the equivalent to 3 cans of coke.

wtf, that's hella weird! cause i looked up the contents of most the engergy drinks and they all have more than that. this is what the mayoclinic has to say about caffeine:

Caffeine is a substance that exists naturally in certain plants, including tea leaves, kola nuts, and coffee and cocoa beans. It can also be produced synthetically and added to foods and beverages.

When caffeine is added to foods and beverages in the United States, it must appear in the list of ingredients on the label. But manufacturers aren't required to list the amount of caffeine. This is true in many other countries as well.

Caffeine is a stimulant. It can increase alertness and even enhance performance of certain tasks. For most people, moderate doses of caffeine — 200 to 300 milligrams (mg) a day — aren't harmful. However, excessive caffeine — more than 500 mg a day — can cause irritability, nervousness, anxiety, insomnia, headaches and diarrhea.

that's a lot of fucking.

an 8oz can of cocaine, has 280mg of caffeine. thats like 4.5 24oz rockstars.

Wow, that is so crazy. Who would have thought a drink could kill you that easily? I mean during moto cross, he probably wasn't even paying attention to how much he was having... within a given amount of time. That is nutty.

Wired 344.....

344 mg of caffeine in a 12 oz can, or maybe its 16. Now those things are craZ. They will keep ya up for a while.

Anyway I don' think it's just that caffeine in energy drinks that keeps you up and gives you a buzz, there are lots of other ingredients that do that as well so it's not purely about how much caffeine is in a drink....although with 344 mg, that kinda makes up for whatever else isn't in there. Energy drinks are pretty new so I'm curious to see what (if any) health problems people might have after a lifetime of drinking lots of them. I personally stay away from them for the most part. I'm all about PowerAde. And they are a bit expensive too.

ive read that 80mg of caffeine, which is whats in a lot of energy drinks, is the equivalent to a weak cup of coffee. I've read that if you're going to drink one or the other, energy drinks are better because most contain a lot of vitamins. theres 100mg of caffeine in a shot of espresso, so everytime you get an "iced grande" whatever, you're having 300mg of caffeine.

i think if used moderately, energy drinks may be a good alternative to the morning starbucks.

but who knows, we'll see

Oh I'm sure of it, but it's still fucking crazy because people are more likely to drink Redbull during intense exercises.

exactly, but I tend to drink water. It is just scary because just drinking that makes you wonder, how much is too much

Water Intoxication, you need to drink a hell of alot of water to kill yourself though

Ya, it seems to be the new thing, and from what I can tell coffee really isn't that good for you, I'm super curious about the energy drinks though. Cause some people (my mom) make a HUUGE deal about how bad they are and that they are worse than like anything.

haha,my parents are so hooked on monster..we left the other morning and we're in the car and my dads like "damn it! i forgot to bring my monster!" and my mom goes "no i grabbed it for you" and he goes "oh thank god!"

hhahahahaha, I doubt my parents would ever drink energy drinks. My dad is like a health retard so he drinks water and vitamin water and that kind of shit. and my mom drinks coffee and smokes meth.....well I lied about the meth.

hmmmm my brother has a 12pack of redbull on his desk and he just went to the post office to ship some ski pants so maybe I should take one. Looks like he's building a pyramid out of the cans.

Just a sidenote but one thing that is lame about energy drinks is the kids who walk around and ALWAYS have an energy drink, like 100% of the time. The kids who probably never get out, never play sports, never do anything. And yet they feel the need to always be drinking a 546984569456 oz. monster or whatever, do they like think that is the one shred of cool they have? to be drinking a energy drinks, is it the cool thing to do? Do they think I walk by and be like "wow, that kid is fucking baller, has a 394589345 oz. monster, he must be the shit". I dunno, it just gets at me.

"There is no history of heart disease in the family and Mr Penbross is in peak physical condition."

total bullshit, this guy had to have a bad heart, theres no way caffeine on its own in a healthy person will cause death. its not possible

Energy drinks are pretty dumb. A stupid fad, because they really don't help at all with exersize... And thats the only real reason I'd see the reason to drink one.

hmmm well like they said caffeine itself in small doses can actually be good for you. however in most of the drinks its in are bad for you. like pop and energy drinks. they have a shit load of sugar which is bad for your teeth and they are also carbonated which interferes with your blood's ability to carry oxygen. also coffee has a lot of caffeine in it also it stains your teeth and smells horrible and tastes terrible. my favorite thing to drink to get my caffeine is tea. a normal 8oz cup of coffee has about 100 mg of caffeine an 8 oz of black tea has 50 mg of caffeine green tea has 30 oz. tea not only tastes better than coffee it doesnt stain your teeth and doesnt have the draw backs of pop or other carbonated beverages.

It's because Alcohol is a downer, and energy drinks are uppers. Mixed together, they are incredibly detrimental to your heart.

Energy drinks in general are stupid, the small amount of vitamins and herbs and stuff they put in them don't counterbalance the sugar, artificial flavorings or the fact that it is a carbonated beverage. Those three things together are really bad for you. The caffeine, not so much. Caffeine isn't all that bad for you, it's addicting, and it can be bad in high doses if consumed regularly but thats it.

Coffee is similar, personally, i drink too much probably. I drink about a medium espresso a day. The worst thing about the coffee is the calories, fat (depends on the milk etc) and some of the other crap in it. If you drink way too much of it, it will start dissolving your stomach lining. What I drink is no where near that much, but some people drink 5 cups a day for years which can be bad.

It basically comes down to, whatever is inside the stuff you drink doesn't really matter as long as it isn't incredibly bad for you. What IS important, is moderation. Don't drink 10 fucking cans of red bull, I would think thats common sense. If you use moderation then very rarely is there a problem.

haha, is 49oz daily moderate? anyways, sounds like your family is hooked on energy drinks.

anyways, most i've had is like 6 monsters in a day of skiing, didn't realy do much. i cant belileve that some guy died from it, either he had a fucked up heart or maybe he was on meds/ mixing

i only drink monster, onlycause i like it i get no energy at all from it, like one time i had like 10 in about 3 hours and all it did was make me a little tired

i only have monster every once in a while. sometimes i'll get on a kick and have a bunch but its not like i live on them so i dont think it will be that big of a deal for me

energy drinks never seem to do anything for me, like make me more energetic

its weird, like one night i drank one after ski club, and went to sleep right after drinking it
